Part 96: ShadeMan Study Session (BN4)
As per requestOverview: Battle Network 4's ShadeMan Omega is probably the hardest boss to 10-second rank in the series. This is largely due to his gimmick where if any of your chip's damage exceeds 10, he takes no damage, turns into a bat and flies off the screen. This is your time to deal damage. The problem is that ShadeMan summons 3 other bats to confuse you. Any 1 of the 4 bats could possibly be ShadeMan. You just don't have enough time to test which bat is the real one.
ShadeMan's main attack, Noise Crush is a 1-3 panel range sonar. This attack can paralyze or confuse you and will break your mercy invisibility. His other attack summons 3 bats that home in on you and cut off your escapes. He can, and will combine these two attacks to create a nigh-undodgable scenario. His third attack only comes out at half HP and only hits 2 panels at most. This attack isn't a threat to you.
Field:
[_][_][_]//[_][_][Md]
[_][M][_]//[_][Sh][_]
[_][_][_]//[_][_][_]
M = MegaMan
Md = Mystery Data
Sh = ShadeMan
The Mystery Data holds a GigaChip. However, because ShadeMan can hit the Mystery Data in Bat Form, I don't recommend you go for this chip here. You don't want to be doing well, and then have ShadeMan kill the Data accidentally. Just let it go.
I highly recommend you equip SuperArmor here. As I wrote two paragraphs ago, ShadeMan can easily trap you and demand some machine-level dodging to escape. You don't want to do well, only for your new record to not count because you didn't get an S-rank. I've seen people ace a fight in under 10 seconds only for their SP chip to not power up because they got a busting level of 10.
Learn The Frames
ShadeMan moves 6 times (only 5 in the GIF) and then attacks. This is consistent.Let your body learn the timing of his attack pattern, and start pulling off Counters. Every boss has a set amount of spaces before they attack. Just learn that and you will have officially bought a ticket to Counter City. Now you're making plays, now you're dealing insane amounts of damage and now 10-second S-ranking is easy.
: I need save files for Red Sun and Blue Moon because I hate this game and I'm not grinding. I know you love this game enough to have completed saves. Cough it up.
: Ok.
Top Tier
: If irony was a woman, I would have fallen in love. Think about it. Popular code, multihit, auto-aiming that completely disrupts ShadeMan's gimmick? YES!
: Similar reasons as Roll, except no multihit.
: Because of ShadeMan's "Virus Body" disallowing him to flinch, this can be spammed over and over in rapid sucession for copious damage amounts.
: This chip completely cuts down his gimmmick. Such an effect immediately promotes it to Top Tier. However, because I am trying to 10-second S-rank, this chip series is useless. Plus, unless you can hold ShadeMan down with Timpani, this won't deal a whole lot of damage.
Average-High Tier
: Ye old nerf bat from BN3 doesn't stop this chip from being effective, provided you know where ShadeMan's hiding.
: Operates similar to Magnum.
: Requires some setup to reach its potential, but the fact that ShadeMan can get hit by these multiple times is enough to warrant its usage. Check the video.
: Wide range and reliable, but you may find it lacking for damage.
: The Mystery Data makes a good tribute FOR LIGHTNING BEAM OF DOOM.
: You may find this useful for instantly causing ShadeMan to revert to Bat Form.
: If you master the art of the Sonic Boom Command Code, then you will definitely have some uses for this.
Suck Tier
: These sheep run too slowly to catch him.
: If you're quick you can get a few of these off, but if you aren't? You dealt nothing.
: I don't think you're taking this very seriously.
: Even if you use the PA, ShadeMan will just escape a good portion of the damage.
: ShadeMan isn't stunned, so multihits like this aren't advised.
: Same deal as SuperVulcan -- multihit non-timestop chips are shit here.
: This chip is actually kinda hard to hit with. Unless you Arealock and forgo the Mystery Data, this will miss more often than not.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 6 Tier
: No.
: These won't pull him in during Bat Form, so don't waste your time.
: Uselesssssssss
: Do something useful with your life.
: You are stupider than the NPCs in this game.
: Simply too slow.
Goon Requirements posted:
1. Save the Mystery Data
2. Don't use Light Soul MegaMan (no Full Synchro)
3. S-rank in 10 seconds or less (my personal requirement)
First, I show you how to 10-second using my methods, then I complete the challenge that was given to me twice, both from a Red Sun and Blue Moon perspective.

Using command codes, we can make WoodMan's chip go from a respectable 250 to an amazing 500 sans powers up.
