Part 107: The Grand Finale: Part 1.
There's only one thing left to do. I'll be breaking the ending up into small pieces spread over the next while.
I had wanted to romhack in a battle against Gregar and Falzar simultaneously, but this proved impossible. Gregar's battle data isn't normally accessible in Falzar version, despite me being able to fight him in the StuffedToyZone.
So, Iris and Colonel will be the ones to destroy Gregar.
Now that I've gotten all 9 title screen icons, there's one last NetBattle. FalzarRV! FalzarRV is a random encounter in the CopyBot Comp.
Amusingly, this means that to trigger the ending, I still need to beat the weaker FalzarSP, the normal 'true final boss' of the game.
Screw that, I just beat FalzarRV, I'm in no mood to kill FalzarSP right afterwards! Yes, the final battle of the series comes down to this. So climactic, isn't it? If you ask me, BassBS' rematch was the climax, it's all downhill from there.
Falzar's been rightfully defeated, both in RV and SP form.
Meanwhile, Colonel and Iris make Gregar detonate with impressive pyrotechnics. Victory for the good guys!
However, with a screech, Falzar reveals itself to be the more powerful of the two Cybeasts! That or the beating MegaMan delivered wasn't quite as thorough as Colonel and Iris'.
Oh dear. Falzar possesses MegaMan one last time and drives him berserk!
Wily's loving this, and obliges me by telling the player (and by extension you all) why.
So poetic! Giant CopyBot FBeast MegaMan destroying the world. Kaiju style!
Wily gleefully calls out to the Cybeast before correcting himself. Seriously, this must be an evilgasm for Wily. His hated enemy is now a berserk force of nigh-omnipotent destruction he can use.
Lan calls out to MegaMan desperately, invoking the Power Word: Plot even. Whenever Hub's name has been brought up, miraculous things tend to ensue courtesy of the power of synchronization and MegaMan's bond with Lan.
Wily gloats, truthfully, that MegaMan's in no state to fight off Falzar. We just had a True Final Boss fight, of course the poor guy's worn out.
MegaMan goes after the first targets he sees: Iris and Colonel. They just took down Gregar, they're in no shape to fight MegaMan merged with Falzar.
Colonel and Iris aren't the type to run away.
Remember that whole thing about Iris and Colonel originally being one Navi?
Heroic sacrifice time.
Wily realizes with horror that his entire plan is about to crumble on the spot. He's savvy enough to know that a heroic sacrifice has a specific formula. The amount of awesome produced by a heroic sacrifice, in a proper work, is directly proportional to how badass the character(s)in question is/are.
That said, he doesn't understand the idea of giving up one's life for the sake of others.
Let alone the rest of the world, don't forget about them.
Iris lectures Wily about the value of kindness one last time.
This makes Colonel and Iris, not MegaMan, the ultimate heroes of the story, funnily enough.
Note his wording. Colonel's honored to be able to die like this.
Colonel also has one last message for Baryl he wants Lan to give.
Let's face it, there's nobody in the world who can kill Colonel except for Colonel. Choosing to die is the only way he'd ever off it.
Wily's ready to have his old heart give out, speaking of death. Seeing his final plan collapsing in front of him and all.
And of course, the formerly mysterious girl gets ready to declare her love for the protagonist.
"...You really need better taste in men."
This isn't actually the first time a Navi/Human relationship has been brought up. I forget if it was MMBN1 or MMBN3, but there was a poster you could examine that would talk about a TV soap opera based on that exact premise.
The heroic theme flares up one final time, for what is unquestionably the single coolest thing in the series. So go click on that to set the mood for what Colonel and Iris are about to do.
Iris and Colonel flash gold, as their palettes go Super Saiyen to mark their fusion.
With a roar of pure testosterone, Colonel dashes forwards and the screen flashes white.
Colonel proceeds to grab Falzar's soul by the throat and rip it out of MegaMan.
Lan proceeds to do so immediately.
...What would this accomplish? Colonel and Iris are doomed anyway.
Wily's resigned to failure at this point.
There's no way the death of Colonel and Iris isn't going to involve the death of a giant monster. It's even more like Ragnarok in Gregar version, where Colonel is grabbing Gregar's spirit by the neck.
Yet another occasion where DTDS' emotive mugshots would have been handy. Stare vacantly into space while dramatically shouting, Lan, that's excellent!
