Part 25: Side Story: Love Unrequited

Music: A Sea Breeze Blows

This one takes place over in Rippletide.

The same stubborn fool has proposed to me ten times over, you see. Every time I turn him down, and every time, he runs home, crying all the way.

So the story is a woman having to deal with the unwanted advances of a man. Gee, I wonder why that sounds so familiar...

Did you think I was exaggerating when I said there were quite a few women with this sort of description?

I'm the only one who can make you truly happy, Mathilda. You may not know it, but I do! No matter how difficult it may seem, I will never give up on you and me!

I kind of have a few issues with this one, but then again they also solve themselves...sort of.

You see, this is another one of those quests with two different ways to solve it, so let's get right to it!

-----

METHOD ONE

This first method involves challenging Tony to a duel. Despite his whimpering, he seems pretty strong.

Music: Battle I

So you may be wondering just how we'll be going to win this. But that's the thing...

The goal is to lose.

Music: Enveloped in Kindness

I even surprised myself, Mathilda.

Tony...
Mathilda... I would do anything for you. Why, I would lay down my very life for your happiness!

Oh, Tony! I never realized your love was so strong and true.

Music: A Sea Breeze Blows

So Tony kicking our butts was reason enough for Mathilda to fall for him.

I mean, I like that they went so far as to update the Scrutinize text, but this just feels so wrong. Tony was an obsessive creep, yet his behavior is somewhat applauded here.

I don't know when he grew to be such a strong young man.

Honestly, I kind of wish they did something different for this one, to show this kind of stuff shouldn't really fly.

...oh wait

METHOD TWO

Music: A Sea Breeze Blows

I know he has his heart set on a certain lady, but she has refused him again and again.

This is Tony's Mother, who is embarrassed with how her son obsesses over Mathilda.

So let's Allure her and take her to Tony.

How many times must I say no!?

This pathetic display does nothing but bring shame to you and our whole family!

F-forgive me, Mother dearest! I promise I'll be a good boy!

Better!

She's still young and has her whole life ahead of her. No need to rush into things.

It seems as though I've still got much to teach him.

At least Tony's Mother is taking responsibility and is trying to help him learn how to respect boundaries.

I like this ending better, as Tony's behavior is shot down as the creepy obsessiveness that it really is, with the hints that Tony's actually going to learn from his mistakes and try to improve in the future. He's not really a bad guy, just a little thick and a whole lot of desperate.

Just don't tell him I said that because I don't want him to kick my ass...
