Ugh, crazy day today. For one thing, I kept nodding off on the train and having these weird dreams…

Video- “First Night”

Watch

You’d think with the best public transportation system in the world they could get you to a place on time.

I wouldn’t be so annoyed, but napping hasn’t really proved…restful.

I just… put it to my head…
And pull the trigger…
No chickening out…

No… I can’t!

Anyway, I woke up on the train just in time to hear them apologize to us for being terrible at their jobs.

Conductor: Due to a malfunction in the switching system, today’s rail schedule has been greatly altered.
We apologize to any customers who were in a hurry.
The next stop is Iwatodai…

You’d think seeing a butterfly every time you fall asleep wouldn’t be that bad, but I can’t recommend it. Especially when it’s kind of creepy and glowing.

Fortunately the train actually arrived, I was convinced for a while they were going the wrong way or something.

Announcement: This is the final train bound for Tatsumi Port Island.
Please take care to board before our departure.

Let’s see, that’s about when things started getting strange.

> It’s almost midnight…

All the lights went out, and the world was sort of tinged green.

> Something about the atmosphere seems odd…
> ……
> It would probably be best to hurry to the dorm…

And, uh, the town seems like it gets kind of dead after midnight.

> You notice coffin-like objects lining the deserted city…

I’ve lived in some weird places before but so far this is a bit much.

Anyway I just sort of tried to ignore it and head to the dorm I’m supposed to stay at.

> This is the dorm mentioned in your admission pamphlet.

It wasn’t much more normal than the rest of town.

For one thing, there was a weird kid there who wanted me to sign something.

> An unknown boy is holding a piece of paper out to you…
If you want to proceed, then please sign here. It’s a contract.
There’s no need to be scared.
It only binds you to accepting full responsibility for your actions.
> Something is written on the paper he’s holding out to you.
> “I chooseth this fate of mine own free will.”
> Below it is a blank to sign your name…

I figured I might as well just humor him.

That name… While I was staying with my father’s side of the family in Russia for a while they told me it was from some old movie he loved. I should probably try to track it down some day. The creepy kid seemed satisfied that I’d agreed to… whatever it was he wanted me to agree to.

Time is something no one can escape. It delivers us all to the same end. Wishing won’t make it go away.
And so it begins…
> The unknown boy disappeared, as if melting into the darkness…

Morbid much? Anyway he disappeared. At that point I was too tired to care how impossible most of the stuff going on was, and it just kept going.

I mean seriously, the train was late, all the lights in town are out, there are creepy coffins everywhere, the first person I meet is some weird vanishing kid, and now the second person has a gun? Not my night.

Don’t tell me…
> The girl is holding something that looks like a gun…

Anyway fortunately I never had to find out if that gun was real.

…!

This was about when the lights turned back on. I’m pretty sure it can’t be a hallucination if someone else sees it too, so at least I’m probably not crazy.

It turned out the two of them are other students staying at the dorm. The redhead’s named Mitsuru, and the other one is Yukari.

My name is Mitsuru Kirijo. I’m one of the students who live in this dorm.
…Who’s she?
She’s a transfer student. It was a last minute decision to assign her here.
She’ll eventually be moved to a room in the normal dorm.
…Is it okay for her to be here?
I guess we’ll see…
This is Yukari Takeba.
She’ll be a junior this spring, just like you.
…Hi, I’m Yukari.

I have no idea how long I’ll be in this dorm and Yukari’s the same age as I am, so I figured I’d just overlook the whole gun thing from earlier.

Uh, y-yeah…
Nice to meet you, too…
It’s getting late. You’ll find your room on the 3rd floor.
Your things should already be there. I suggest you tuck in for the night.
Oh… I’ll show you the way. Follow me.

At least my stuff showed up on time.

This is it…
Pretty easy to remember, huh? …Since it’s right at the end of the hall.
So, any questions?

I asked her about that creepy kid but I guess she didn’t see him. Or he wasn’t there at all, and I’m just crazy.

What are you talking about? …C’mon, it’s not funny.
> Yukari doesn’t seem to know what you’re talking about.
Um… Can I ask you something?
On your way here from the station, was everything okay?

It definitely wasn’t okay but if she didn’t see the kid I wasn’t about to start with the whole coffins and creepy moon thing if she didn’t know about them too.

You know what I—
…Never mind.
It seems like you’re alright.
Well, I’d better get going…
Um…
I’m sure you still have questions, but let’s save them for later, okay?
Good night.
>Yukari walked down the stairs…
> This is your assigned room…

So yeah, home sweet home.

It’s time to get some sleep, school starts tomorrow and I don’t want to pass out on my first day. Hopefully it’s less crazy than my first night here was.
