Part 3

Hmm..

"And Leader also says, rookies like yourselves should have a veteran partner assigned to you, but due to the extraordinary abilities you both possess, he wants the two of you to partner up. We are expecting outstanding results from the two of you. Straight to the point, there's a mission for the two of you. For more details, go to Ubiquitous down at the Lab. Best of luck to you both."

The lab is one of the locations Know was guarding from us. Before we head there, let's talk to everybody.

"For details, speak with Kajikawa."

"For details, go to the Lab and speak with Ubiquitous."

Leader says, go get me a cup of coffee, Nanashi.

"The box lets us see past information about those who lived on the surface. It provides hints of the future for the Visions. That's why finding the memory boxes is an important task for the scouts. That machine analyzes and provides the information. A lot of important information is out there, so please find them."

We now have a memory box that doesn't just provide information about gameplay.

Could it be Freia? She seems to be fine being on the surface, unless she has somewhere underground to retreat to.

"You should be grateful."

Let's go talk to everybody else before we head to the lab.

You can see that Know is no longer blocking access to the lab.

"They dig, then investigate the surface, then they start digging again. That's how we came here. Hmm ...? The Lab, it's straight ahead."

"I thought you'd most definitely fail."

I think this is the drilling machine that Arthur was talking about. Not the little room that can't be interacted with right now, but the whole complex of machinery infront of us. I've read in a couple of interviews with the creative director, Yukio Futatsugi, that this was originally meant to be more than just a prop.

Yukio Futatsugi posted:

I also wanted players to be able to move from one underground town to another. (Take a look at the area near the town shop. The driller-like machine is the remnants of this plan.)

Yukio Futatsugi posted:

[T]he idea was that the town would move around and proceed underground and expand that way. You'd use the drill to expand what you can access underground, letting you proceed along and eventually get to the final area. That was the first idea, but we didn't have enough time to implement that. So the town stays still, but there are still some aspects of that left in the story.

"via the Simulator at Headquarters. Rewards are also there. You don't have to restart the game from the beginning."

"What if we can't find food anywhere? Then we hvae no choice but to relocate our town. Food is easy to find, so we haven't been forced to do that yet."

"I also heard Meister was badly hurt. What happened up there? Come on, tell me."

We'll make a point to go visit Meister in the clinic.

"Didn't you help Meister? ... hm!"

"Darn, the drink's gone bad."

"What? A woman attacked you? What a frightful lady! Is she insane? No? I don't get it. Anyway, I've never heard about her before. No way can a woman so strong be on the surface without rumors circulating."

"I wonder what this hole was used for? I have no clue."

He's talking about the hole down.

Looks like Meister's all laid up.

"I don't know ... How can she be on the surface for so long? Is her memory okay?"

"First things first--he must sleep. Some heal right afterwards, although some do not."

Now to the Battle Terminal.

"So if you get lost on the surface, you'll forget what happened while you were there."

"The rest of them are all full of crap!!"

"It looks like today I have once again been kept alive by destiny."

"Freia, I think her name is ... I can't get her out of my mind."

"Didn't Spokesman tell you to talk to him?"

Let's talk to him.

"... find ... Edgar."

We've got to talk to Edgar back in the Battle Terminal to take on the next mission.

"Let's show them what we've got."

Edgar is the companion we're forced to use for the majority of the chapter two missions.

Watch Collecting Battle Data

"3 eyes, 4 mouths, vomit spewing out of every crevice. If he creates crap, then he must be crap. Guh, haaahhhhh!"

"It doesn't look like any regular ornament...."

I'm not sure what Cuff Button is talking about.

"Well, I guess I'll help out. The Ruins intrigue me. That is, if I can get my memory back. It's up to you to report this to Ubiquitous."

We'll report this to Ubiquitous after we talk to more people.

"It analyzes the memory box as well as provides access to Options and the Simulator. You should try it sometime."

"Once they found informaton on how to grow vegetables, but when they tried it in the residential area plants wilted immediately. They had the right soil and water, so it must have been the data that was the problem. It figures."

"They were moved here recently so they would be closer to all the facilities."

"I'm sick and tired of all the useless Junk these profit-seeking hooligans bring in."

Note that Junk is capitalized. We'll learn more about that in the next chapter. Now to the Headquarters.

"We most likely have lost the memory of that day. But what happened on that day? To uncover what has happened is why the memory box is so important."

"This incident is her fault, so we must establish a strategy to avoid it in the future. But, as Visions, our top priority is to find the Ruins. Therefore, we've designated you to find out more about her. We have high expectations of you."

"I've heard that sometimes creatures drop them."

To the Atrium..

"If only we knew, we wouldn't have to go to the surface."

"If I see one, then I'll bring it back."

If my memory serves me right, we never receive a memory box from anyone else. We only gain them through doing missions.

"... east, west??? Well, who cares. You know that big machine located at the side of the Main Floor? It digs along the surface. The Visions used it to dig a path and move the town to its current location. So, this bar was built to be easily moved just in case. Searching along here had just begun, so we shouldn't be moving for a while."

"A lot of non-Espers walking around and dozing off. That's about it."

I'm taking the opportunity to practice my mummy impression. What do you think?

"If you get stranded, you'll lose your memory."

Now back to Ubiquitous.

Watch Float

Edgar's pretty cynical. I wonder why?

Watch Status Skills

"Something significant in my past ..."

We've got some new dialogue!

"possible. Pay attention. There are remnants of old facilities underground. We've found many items by going through these areas. That's how we usually proceed with quests."

"the ability to capture them. Regrettably, members don't understand the significance of his work."

That's an odd change in tone from formal to informal.

Leader has a little bit of drool on his chin that needs to be wiped off.

"It's hard to understand what he's saying sometimes."

Back to the clinic.

"Please, find a recipe for medicine and bring it back to me."

"received ... a recipe for a remedy?"

Watch Recipe for Recovery

Let's check out that recipe.

And now we'll head back to the lab.

"get back to you ... till then ... hold tight."

We'll finish chapter 2 next episode.
