Part 19: Bothering the Brigands (part 1)
So here’s the deal: I finished up Quest for Glory 1 yesterday, but I wound up with so many images that I’m going to split it into three updates: entering the fortress, the first two rooms, and the third room plus the ending. Since I’ve got everything uploaded and ready, I’ll be able to use my laptop to put up the other two updates. Basically, then, you’ll only have to go through the weekend without your QfG goodness.
Chapter 18: Bothering the Brigands (part 1)
This is it, the day I go defeat the brigands! Hope I’m not forgetting anything…
[MEANWHILE, IN ANOTHER DIMENSION…]
Hey man, you and me, rematch, right now.
Ah, I do so love a job where people pay me to beat them.
What the?! How did you get so good in only five days?!
Stamina potions, bitch! Hi-keeba!
Well, of course you would do well after using magic. Such things are beyond my limit of acceptability. Very well, I yield.
Hey, you’re the one who taught me “There’s no such thing as too cheap.”
Ha! You’re just a sore loser, loser! Man, I feel PUMPED UP! I’m going to go take those bandits on RIGHT NOW!
YOU THINK YOU CAN TAKE ME? YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-
–AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA–
–AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
YOU GUYS AIN’T TOUGH! YOU GUYS AIN’T NOTHING!
YOU WANT SOME OF THIS TOO? COME ON!
YOUR ASS IS MINE!
What, you think your little gate can stop me? ME?
[MEANWHILE, IN THE FIRST DIMENSION…]
And now for the measured, sane approach.
Well, now that I’m looking for it, that one stone on the left there seems out of place. And hey, a lock in the crevasse! Pretty easy to pick open, actually. Now what was that “word” again?
*You hear something heavy moving farther back into the cavern.*
I wonder what would have happened if I’d forgotten the “word?”
*Sideflash*
WHY, WHY DIDN’T I REMEMBER THE SECRET WORD?!!
*End Sideflash*
True to the system, there are three ways past both the minotaur and the door. A fighter would (as you just saw) defeat the minotaur and bash the door down, making enough of a racket to guarantee that brigands will show up on the next screen. A magic user would use Open to get through the door and Calm to make the minotaur fall asleep, though you must remember to cast Calm again after exiting the bushes, since you make enough noise to wake him back up. Finally, the thief simply sneaks past the minotaur and climbs over the wall.
Or you could do what Nike’s about to do.
Hey, what’s this sign say? “Ring bell for service?” Well, sure, I want service. Maybe these guys are polite after all.
