Part 13
Part 13This must be an old town. There's moss growing all over the rich delicious chocolatey soil. If you're wearing the disguise from the previous update, you can go around town unmolested. If not, you have to fight the same melee battle every few steps.
You can also talk to the various (3) people around town, but they're not particularly helpful.
Wah wah wah. I guess it falls to Asian Robin Hood to save the day.
Over on the gibbet we find the... two people we came to save? I guess?
And at the north end of town we find the way to the Sheriff's keep being guarded.
Clearly there is only one way to proceed: Attack the guard with a sword!
Melee 6 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbldLna5dXc
Not a hard battle by any degree. Even though Robin can't use a bow since you need a sword to hit the guard, there's no reason why you can't give bows to everyone else. I even gave Duncan one.
Just so you all know, there's no point in having gold in this game except to hire the Weapons Master and to buy the chest key in the village. And, even more strangely, there's no other chests except the one near Hadrian's Wall and the one randomly found in an early melee.
Let's do this!
Useful dialogue right up until the end.
So, this is the final stage of the game. And, in the grand fashion of final stages, it's the largest place yet. It actually takes almost a minute of wandering northeast to find the final boss area! Also, this place is wall-to-wall crossbow guards, so expect to take some damage here. Not much, of course, unless you get tossed between two guards... it's actually possible to get stuck in place by their repeated attacks and be cheap-killed over five minutes.
Yeah, I'll bet he is.
There's three locked doors in the keep in which you can find a potion or two.
The keys are always nearby, but one of the doors doesn't open no matter what you do. Even the chest key doesn't work.
Level up!
Robin Hood is now the most ridiculously fast person in the world. How fast, you may ask?
He can outrun arrows. I raced this little guy down the main hall.
Although there's plenty of interesting looking places in the keep, there's really not that much to do.
I found this an amusing thing to program into the Search database.
- Guards! Seize them!
Little John sums up my thoughts perfectly at this point.
Melee 7 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tWm-OanbqM
This one is only marginally more difficult than all the others because of sheer numbers. There's nothing to worry about if you have a couple of bows.
Of course he does. I don't know why you even need to wonder by now.
Thankfully, that was the last melee battle. Once you complete it, all random guard encounters cease, leaving you free to explore the keep if you haven't done so already.
A short way down the hall to the east, we run into an old friend.

You want the Sheriff? He is behind me, all you have to do, is get by me! Ha ha ha ha!
Well, time to use that Druid's Dagger that you could have easily forgotten and dropped at an earlier and impossible to return to area of the game! And a red potion, to speed things along.
You're supposed to jump in and attack between swings, but with the red potion your attack speed drastically increases. Even the Druid's Dagger becomes a blender of destruction.
Kaboom!
Boy, does she look surprised.
I didn't attack her or anything... she literally exploded for no reason here.
God, this game is weird.
Here's the final stats for the party:
Note that even though you can gain experience at level 8, there's no more progression; it's the maximum.
Finally, we run into our true foe... the Sheriff!

Oh snap!
Even
And the Sheri... wait a second, the final boss is a palette swap of the Baron?
I really get the impression that Guy's battle sprite was supposed to be the Sheriff's. Why did the villain's henchman get the only unique sprite? Well, besides Little John and the random axeman from the Dungeons.
Whatever. Anyway, the Sheriff is the hardest duel in the game. Even at max level, he still has more health than Robin, and each of his attacks do more damage too. If you hold your ground below the table on the right side of the screen, you can sort of trap him and pluck away at his health. But, since that would take like ten minutes and be boring as hell to watch, I decided to just go toe to toe with him.
Don't be ashamed if you see this line a couple of times. I know I did when I was a kid.
It's a bit of a close shave, but the Sheriff is defeated!
Yaaaaaay!
...Wait, where did she come from-

I do say!
I kind of want these two frames as my avatar.
It's good to be the king.
Almost there...!
Actually, they stop right there. Probably because they couldn't figure out how to animate the faces.
And so ends Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Don't worry though, if you want to see the ending just push any random button and it'll replay in its entirety until you turn off the NES.
I know this was kind of a short LP, but I had fun making it. I hope you all enjoyed reading/watching it. If you want to see a few secrets of the game, including the fairly well-known stage select and the lesser known cut content, such as the Locksley Shield, check out the Cutting Room Floor Wiki:
