Let's All Play Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective - The Two Lions (Update #3)

Notebook (New clues will be spoilered.)

1. The body of Stephen Lyons, a First Officer for Aberdeen Shipping, was found shortly after 9 AM yesterday morning in St. George's Road. He was witnessed being led in the direction where the body was found by two women and a man, his body had been robbed of two gold earrings which he had been seen to have been wearing. There were no wounds on the body, and it is supposed that an overdose of some drug has been administered.

2. Two lions, both male, were found shot to death in Hyde Park in the early hours of this morning.

3. Watson paid a visit to Sir Meeks at St. Batholomew's Hospital. Sir Meeks confirmed that drugs were involved in Lyons death. He clarified that it was a poison that affected the respiratory system and had turned his lips and fingertips blue, it had also given his eyes a distinctive yellow tint. He believes that the drug is exotic as he has never encountered it before.

4. The detectives visited the offices of the Aberdeen Navigation Company. Lyons had been employed there for two years and it's been discovered that before his death, irregularities had arisen in his paperwork. Objects had been discovered missing that were considered securely locked and when questioned, Lyons was very evasive with his answers. It's also believed that Lyons was carrying unassigned cargo for personal profit, following their recent passage on the Rhine(?).

5. Watson spoke to Lyons landlady who confirmed that he is dead. He owed her two months back rent but he told her that he would be paying up, plus several months in advance, come Tuesday.

6. The detectives met with Roy Slade at Hengler's Circus, who confirmed that the two lions killed were part of his circus show. Barry O'Neill was the owner of the two lions who is currently a patient at St. Thomas' Hospital after an accident involving a falling create while helping to unload a ship. O'Neill and his wife are reportedly the only two people who could handle the lions safely. O'Neill's wife is currently staying at Carroll O'Neill's residence.

7. Watson visited Mr. Murray at Scotland Yard who was in a rush to leave. Even though Murray was on his way home, he reported that he didn't really have any real evidence to share with us. Lyons was found with undamaged clothes, no personal effects and with traces of sea salt which could indicate that he was a sailor.

8. The detectives paid a visit to Barry O'Neill's family home. They speak to Olivia O'Neill (the mother of Barry and Thomas O'Neill) and Barry's wife who accompanied him while he was on tour. Both of them believe that Barry would be better off leaving the circus and settling down. They claim that Carroll will be able to find employment for Barry at Rudge & Singer.

Thomas was last heard of in Oldenburg, Germany. Hengler's Circus had recently returned from a tour of Germany, Barry's wife claims that she did not speak to Thomas but can't verify whether her husband had any contact with him. Thomas had loaned Barry money to start his animal show and believes that he is forever in his debt.

9. Holmes spoke to Porky Shinwell about Stephen Lyons. Stephen visited the Raven & Rat whenever his ship was in port, a friend of his new brother and claimed that they were ace lockpickers. Lyons visited the Raven & Rat yesterday afternoon with a red-headed man. An hour after Lyons had left, a man called Derrick Quinn approached the red-headed man.

Holmes also asked about Thomas O'Neill, who Shinwell never met Thomas but has heard rumours. Thomas is suspected of being a jewel thief and would backstab his associates if it made him profit more.

10. Watson paid a visit to Barry O'Neill at St. Thomas' Hospital. Barry is still distraught at the death of his two lions, Lenny & Bruce.

11. Inspector Lestrade was unusually helpful when questioned by Watson, although he still seems to be in a bad mood. Lestrade is confident that the culprits are now in custody at the Old Bailey and has told us that the victim's body is currently at St. Bartholomew's Hospital.

When questioned about the lions, Lestrade mentioned that the lions were found shot multiple times and were found laying ontop one another. There were wagon tracks leading away from the bodies as well as two sets of footprints. Both sets of bootprints exited and re-entered the wagon. The wagon was abandoned in Archbishops Park and is now currently being held at the Central Carriage Stables.

12. Hogg agreed to meet with Watson but he was too engrossed with the stories of the Society Burglar.

13. Holmes met with the Dispatcher of the Central Carriage Stables. The wagon housed a cage, the door was wide open and the padlock had been sprung and was left to dangle on the ring bolt. Blood was smeared all over the stairs leading in and all over the floor inside. In the corner of the cage laid two large leather collars, attached to the end of each collar was a leather pouch. Both pouches had been ripped open and emptied.

Time to vote!

You can choose up to, and including, five more locations for the detectives to visit. You're also free to send the Irregulars to one location. That's if you wish to do so.

We have visited all of the key locations and can take this case to the judge in the next update. I'm not going to press for any hard answers but these will be the two main questions that we will be asked:

Who killed the lions? & Who killed Stephen Lyons?

Even if you're still unsure at this point we can still end the case here if you so wish.

The next update will be on Saturday, 6th June at 2200 GMT.
