Skies of Arcadia: Legends

Part 51: Update 49 – It Gets Worse

Galcian has revealed his plans and split the Armada from the Empire. Ramirez has killed one of the Silvite Elders and they now have all six of the Moon Crystals. Clearly, the thing to do in this situation is go for a cruise above the skyline over Ixa'Taka.

I don't know, but it look like he's hungry...

Meet Roc, who I totally forgot to include in the last update. Roc is the fourth and final of the four giant beasts, Obispo, Alania and Giant Looper being the other three, and honestly, there's not a whole lot to say about Roc. If defeating all four of the beasts wasn't a requirement for getting the best title and weapon I'd probably have forgotten about him altogether because he's just not as interesting as the others

Splat.

And with that, we should probably crack on with the saving-the-world thing.

This pops up as soon as you get back from the Silver Shrine just to point you in the right direction. Very well-informed, that Gilder.

According to my sources, Galcian's built some sort of elevator that leads down beneath the Great Cloud Sea...

Do you think they built it to try and get to Soltis?!

Probably. And I bet they're heading there with the Moon Crystals as we speak.

Well, then it looks like we know where we need to go. Let's try and get to Soltis through Dangral Island. We need to stop Galcian!

If you think about it's pretty obvious where they've gone. It's not like they can go back to Valua, after all.

Dangral Island looks the same as ever apart from this. Remember the long rail that it sprouted on the world map after we were here last time? Turns out we should have paid a bit more attention to that.

I hope this works!

Well, there's only one way to find out.

Grind clunk whirr vrsssh

Alright! It's moving!

Yeah! It looks like this will take us straight to Soltis!

Huh?

Hey there, Red! Did you miss me?

I swear I'm going to use half my screenshot limit for the update just for Aika's expressions here.

I remember you...Vyse. This time, I'm ready for you!

Let's settle this once and for all!

That's right, everyone! Hide your wives and daughters because it's time for Vigoro round 2!

Remember Vigoro's parting line about his cannon and armour from back in the prison cells? As you can see, this time he's fully armed and armoured.

What's that you say? It looks more like a club than a cannon?

Vigoro disagrees.

Cannon Fire does a huge amount of damage to one character, more than any other storyline boss so far. Compared to the optional bosses it's small potatoes, but if you've been ignoring those Cannon Fire comes as a nasty surprise, especially if you were expecting a joke boss. In fact, when I first recorded this I forgot to heal before starting the fight and promptly got Vyse one-shotted. The Japanese name for the attack is Gigantic Warship Cannon .

Now, if I felt like it I could keep slapping him with the lollipop to take advantage of his vulnerability to confusion, but really I find him easy enough without resorting to cheap tricks, and that means all the more SP for exploding him with.

I lost...again?

I didn't think that there was anyone else in this world other than Lord Galcian that could best me...

Conveniently, the rail ends right as Vigoro runs out of HP. Handy, that.

Red...looks like this is good-bye...”The strongest man has the right to be with the finest woman.” Vyse just stomped me pretty good....so, I don't deserve you.

And if he didn't smell so strong. Amongst many, many other things.

I don't know...maybe I'll become an Air Pirate like you guys...as long as there are beautiful women in this world...I'll keep fighting!

Goodbye! Seriously, this soundbite has to be heard to be believed.

We're out of Dangral Island now and into the smaller island the rail was connected to. Nowhere left to go but down.

This lift always takes me ages to get into because there's a ladder at the back of the room leading to the actual entrance. It usually takes me several laps of the room to spot it.

The whole area here is airtight and pressurised against Deep Sky. This door here is doubled layered about about two feet thick. It leads to...

This. Welcome to Soltis, ancient home of the Silvites. Despite sitting at the bottom of the world for thousands of years everything is completely pristine. All there is here is a long, ominous corridor, and we all know who's waiting for us at the end.

Heh heh...so, you made it this far...

Galcian! Ramirez!!

What is that?!

Vyse...that sphere is the Silver Gigas, Zelos!!

What?! That's the Gigas?

Vyse! Look!!

The Moon Crystals!!

They're using the Crystals to break the seal!

I will be able to call down the Rains of Destruction at will! And then, my reign shall begin! The six Moons shall obey my commands!

You may live long enough to see it...then again, you may not!

Surprise boss fight time! And Ramirez was talking to the party there by the way, not to Galcian.

Our boss this time around is Eliminator, a rehash of the boss of the Shrine Island boss. Strange really, considering the game has no other rehashed bosses, but I'm sure they had their reasons. Either way, you can either take him down the same way as before but with bigger numbers, or abuse the hell out of his confusion weakness.

Lollipop status: Still broken.

'Course, the problem here is that Galcian didn't need the technogolem to win. He just needed to buy a little time.

Wakey wakey, Zelos.

He broke the seal!!!

Zelos! I am your master! Raise the Lost Continent of Soltis! From this day forth, Soltis shall be my castle! Farewell, Air Pirates! This place shall become your grave!

And then the whole middle of the room rises up and carries them away to safety.

Vyse, we've got to hurry! Zelos is raising Soltis! We have to get back to Dangral Island!

We can't stay here! Vyse, hurry!

Damn...we were so close...! Alright, everyone! Go! Back to Dangral Island!

Well, shit.

Maybe that cruise over Ixa'taka wasn't such a good idea after all.

Grind clunk crunch...

Vyse! What's going on?!

I don't know!

You've got to be kidding!

I'm trying! I'm trying! ...It's no use. There's no power!

I got an idea!

Code of the Blue Rogues: When in doubt, do something incredibly stupid and dangerous.

Vyse?

Vyse! What do you think you're doing?!

Let's go?! What do you mean, “let's go!”? You...you don't mean...

Yes. We're going to run up the rail. Hurry! I don't know how much longer it will hold!

Rumble rumble rumble...

What's that?!

Oh. Oh my.

It's Soltis!

Fina...you go first!

Okay!

RUN!!! Go! Go! Go!

That was too close!

Vyse! This way! Hurry!

VYSE!

This is one of my favourite shots in the entire game. Vyse falling as Soltis rises in the background.

And then it's followed by this.

On Pirate Isle...

In Ixa'taka...

Isapa: I do not know...the winds are shifting...something is very, very wrong...

And on Shrine Island...

Hey Drachma! Surprise!

And now you know what an ancient Silvite guardian was doing on Shrine Island.

We are all so dead.
