Part 17: The Snare - Part 1

The Snare

Our crew finally arrived at NOAH's base, but the Claws also stumbled upon the place during their retreat. They established several siege camps around the NOAH base, and we have to destroy them before we can shake hands with NOAH. There is a lot of combat during this mission, so you better come prepared.

I spread a lot of heavy weapons through my unit, since they will need to combat a lot of vehicles. I also bring a Grail launcher for a special reason

Mc Nowel joins David on the bench. I still have room in my team, but I really want to feed Xp to the soldiers that I'll use till the end.

Okay, before we can do anything, I have to explain this map a bit. It's another of those huge-ass maps, and has a lot of Claw positions scattered all over.

This village is pretty close to our starting position.

Roughly to the north, you can find the NOAH base.

Nice place they got here! If you take a look at the map, you can see the green circles that mark the different siege camps and Claw bases.

There are three siege camps around the NOAH base.

One here..

This is the second one, and the third camp is where my mouse pointer is.

The Claws also took over this supply base, which is again pretty close to our starting position.

So, we have to deal with five Claw camps in total. There are also some roaming units around, but you can dodge them until you want to take them on. It's really up to you in what order you want to clear this map, and there are a bunch of different ways to take on each of the camps. This is honestly one of my favorite missions, because it allows you to do so many different things.

Oh, the map has one last unusual feature..

There is a nuclear power plant near the NOAH base.

With the exposition done, let's kill something!

Prof scouts the small supply base. It is guarded by soldiers and a hidden Humvee, so no trouble at all. Since it's the weakest camp, I'm going to clear it with my chopper.

Since the last video with the chopper was so short, I wanted to give you a better look at it. I used its range and speed to the fullest, and cleared this base with ease. Though, there are a few things to talk about. First, you may have noticed that one of my clicks didn't properly register. That can happen sometimes, but it's very rare. In this case, it was also due to the soldiers hiding behind tank barriers. They fuck with your line of sight, so the game had a some issues with proper targeting. Attacking the Humvee was also kind of a gamble, as it carried a TOW launcher. If it would have gotten the chance to fire, my chopper would have been scrap. Simple as that. I could have used my own missile to be safe, but taking risks is fun! And this video also showed how a wrong click can get you into trouble. I was kinda mad about this dent in my otherwise perfect performance.

The place also has a bit of loot, but nothing amazing.

Now that we're warmed up, let's look at the village.

Prof can't see much from his position. Moving closer is dangerous, so I move the chopper along the edge of the map to get a better look at the area.

Yeah, that's more like it.

Taking this place requires some finesse, as the game has a dick move in store for you. But before we get to that, I let the chopper fly onwards and take out one of the siege camps.

This is the camp that I didn't properly show earlier. I want to clear it now, since there is a sniper lurking next to the tower. It's rare, but it's possible that he can get a line of sight on you while you assault the village.

Fuck that guy!

Of course, this also alerts the other units in this camp.

Fuck these guys, too!

Okay, time to assault that village.

The chopper still provides eyes, and I snuck some soldiers into the woods on the right. I'm only going to move the Shilka and one of my BMPs into the village. The other tanks will chill here for reasons that I won't spoil now.

Moving into the village is also a bit tricky, since the gate is blocked with tank barriers.

But they can't stand up to shells

The most important factor during this fight is your timing.

So while my vehicles roll in...

...my soldiers grenade the shit out of the other gate. Sadly, one of the Humvees got away, but it's no real issue.

The BMP goes after the vehicles, while the Shilka cuts down soldiers left and right..

This quickly turns into a massacre. So exactly what I planned

The dust settles, and the place is clean. That BTR even turned into salvage.

But right here, comes the dick move. When the village is clear, the Claws will send over a tank unit to figure out what has happened. You can't know about this in advance, and only have very little time to prepare for it. Really, it's quite possible to get screwed over by this. Especially since the unit will split, and assaults the village from two directions.

That's why I left two of my tanks outside. They'll ambush what drives up behind the village. The rest will come from the front and is a bit more tricky to counter. I hid my vehicles in the village, and they will only rush out when the Claws are close. Prof also chills on a hill, with his RPG at the ready. And lastly, I managed to let Boris place a few mines on the road. It's not much, but maybe it'll help. I'm really glad that I gave him athletic, because without that skill, I wouldn't have been able to place the mines in time.

Okay, let's see how this plays out...

Prof throws a grenade at a BMP, but misses. Kinda shitty, cause it also dodged my mines. But I mainly wanted him to attract the BMP, so that my own can roll out and fire missiles.

Haha, holy shit! That was really close. The BMP blasted a missile right into the hill, and Prof cheated death.

The BMP becomes salvage, and Prof gets the fuck out. However, there is a T-55 coming down the road, and I don't have many options to fight it.

Behind the village...

..my tanks Alpha-strike another BMP.

But what about that damn T-55?

Thank god for speedy Boris and his mines! Phew, that went pretty well! Prof almost died, but he'll get over it. I usually bring some spare vests and medkits, so he's as good as new in a jiffy

The village offers a bit of loot, like medkits, smoke grenades, a pair of night vision goggles and a light vest.

The tank unit also had a little unmarked camp.

Which hides a heavy box.

Since I now have a lot of room to move, I park my units around the siege camp that I already cleared with my chopper earlier.

My T-55 also kills some Claws that chill out at the power plant. I wonder what they are doing there?

The empty siege camp also contains a special box.

Plans for the power plant? I really want to know what the Claws are up to this time..

Well, we don't really have time to think about this now. There are still siege camps to destroy!

Good times

A stash of grenades goes into my pocket.

The last camp is a bit more difficult, since it has a T-55 and a BMP. But they are not stationary, and will move around a little bit from time to time.

So I send out an RPG squad to pick off one when he drives around.

My patience is rewarded with a dead BMP.

CHARGE!

The tank turns into salvage...

...and the Shilka has more fun with soldiers.

This camp had a stash of RPG rounds, and a heavy ammo box. The RPGs actually come in handy, since I used a lot of my own supply.

And now we're done with the Claw siege force!
