Part 129: Soviet Turn 1
Soviet Turn 1Well initially, the Albanians get the jump on us.
One APC gets hit by an AT round from a concrete bunker (I hope you weren't right about them being everywhere).
A second one (seen here) is taken out by a stationary 100mm gun.
However, the 100mm guns were up close enough to meet heavy retaliatory fire. One was completely clear of men by the end of the enemy turn, and the other was heavily suppressed.
Our Howitzer fire missions land beyond the visual range of battle. No secondary explosions spotted, but they could have done some damage.
Our T-64s immediately prove their worth, smashing through the remaining 100mm gun and the concrete bunker.
Some forward recon units move into place in the north. A BTR-40 is lost to one last 100mm round, but the scouts inside all miraculously survive without even being jarred. No enemy forces appear to be present in this area.
Despite some initial losses, all enemies within line of sight have been neutralised.
An estimated 20% of the Albanian force has effectively been removed from play, on top of the possibility of additional forces being destroyed by artillery fire. whereas our own losses are less than 10% (granted, losing two full BTRs at the onset of combat is still annoying).
I don't see this being a vehicular victory despite the usefulness of our tanks thus far. Dismounted infantry supported by larger guns and planes are probably going to win the day. Any suggestions as to the general strategy from here on out?
