Part 25: Chapter 7-3

So the final puzzle. We need to send the robot spider back through the vent, then send him ducking through the lasers. The lasers are very fast and sweep in oddball patterns. The spider is…not very fast. He’s generally just quick enough to avoid a laser if you book it at the tail end of a sweep.

Getting hit by deadly lasers makes him twitch and die.

Then you’re kicked back to the computer…

…where you release another one, watch him slowly plod through the vent again and start over. Because the FBI apparently has an *infinite supply* of laser shooting robot spiders.

Alright, duck through the first lasers when they sweep apart. This is the easy one, there’s a safe spot one square past them.

…the next screen over camera screws you into running right into the next one, which is not so forgiving speedwise.

To beat this one, you need to move over here first. When the laser sweeps away, you run through, and you’ll barely beat it on the way back.

Safe spot here.

Now we’re going left, up this wall. Note another laser sweeping this wall up and down.

Go go go, we just gotta get up and to the space on the left there and…

…and the laser sweeps back far too fast for any such thing.

Trying a different approach. Instead of going left, we’ll go right up this wall.

To our right is a sweeping laser that’s going pretty slowly and is no big worry. Right above us are two lasers that *are* a big worry, as they’re zipping around so quickly that it is fucking impossible to traverse the four squares they’re covering right above the spider.

I give it a go anyway.

Change of plans again. Through the first lasers…

Over here this time. Up the wall.

This is slightly more manageable. Slightly. There’s a laser sweeping the four blocks above the spider. It leaves us *just* enough clearance to maybe scoot to the right if we follow the tail end of its route.

Phew.

Up, right and up. You might notice that we’re on the top side of that first bag of dicks laser. It’s still fast as shit, so you’ll just have to haul ass and hope the spider’s slow ass turning does not screw you.

These ones actually can’t hurt you, in spite of what it looks like. They can, however, do a mighty fine job of making you panic and run into a laser that can hurt you.

Scoot up here. There is one final laser dead ahead, that takes a nigh-indecipherable pattern of sweeping down from the point it’s hitting here, down to the control panel (which is where we need to be), then immediately back up but slightly to the right. Your best bet is to just run for it as soon as it moves away from the spot shown here and hope you don’t die. Did I mention you can’t save during any of this, so this puzzle must be done in one go or bust? Yeah, fuck this puzzle with a chainsaw.

So that shuts off the deadly lasers. I’m sure GlaDOS will throw the deadly neurotoxin at us next.

And the FBI Archives resembles the Overseer’s office from Fallout. You know what, I don’t even know.

Not even going to comment on the device for fetching files. It’s plausible compared to the *deadly lasers*.

So someone almost immediately erased all the files pertaining to Ackerman right after Ida bought it. Except for one which Gustav apparently got to first.

It’s an idea.

And that would be Browning. How was *he* planning on traversing the deadly lasers?

“So what now Browning?”

“Listen, I’m actually getting things done as opposed to sitting on my ass and waiting for something to happen.”

Hey, he apparently was watching.

“Oh for fuck sakes… just bill me, OK!”

“Actually don’t bother. I quit.”

And Vickie throws her badge at Browning.

And you’re a big poopyhead, too!

“Fuck you, Browning. You don’t know me.”

“I think I am or a certain list of names of senators and high officials will go public. A list of names belonging to a certain S and M club. Hey, wasn’t your name on that list too?”

“Just stay clear of me, Browning or the press will have a field day. Hey! Are you married?”

“That’s little rich bitch to you, Browning.”

And Vickie gets out of there. Back to our truck.

We’re off to Pat’s House to look for that file Gus stole.

Back at the house, it’s oddly quiet. Pat is nowhere to be found.

Oh, he’s just drunk. We need to go north.

Gus’s oddball Brian Irons painting.

All the way back downstairs, where I spent like a minute trying to click on Pat’s toolbox before realizing the game actually wants you to click some pixels right under it.

An Exacto knife. That should work.

Back upstairs, use the knife on the painting, and…

Well, that was quite an info dump. Grandma Prostitute is actually Milena, she, Vladanna, Gus and Roman escaped to America to have wacky adventures, and the murders didn’t stop just because Ackerman was shoved into the nearest funny farm. That thing about a Pupil seems familiar too. Like the painting back at Richard's.

Now we can try to leave, but Claire calls.

“Hello?”

“Hey, what’s up?”

“Yes I do, thanks. I’ll check it out.”

“Yes, but not as breathtakingly revealing as I anticipated. But it’s given me a new lead. I think I’m going to LA.”

“It would be too long to explain but I will fill you in as soon as I get the chance.”

“I’ll try. Anyways I got to see what’s wrong over at the campus.”

“I always am. Bye.”

Whelp, our killer apparently got to Mia and Vaclav is shrieking about it. Over to check that out.
