Chapter Fourteen: A Man Named Lepant



After some long consideration, I decided to bring Kai and Antonio. I was going to show that chef that fighting was everything. Since I didn't know anything about weapon inspections, I decided to see what Maas could do for them.



He's clearly talking about Gremio and Antonio. At any rate, let's take a look at what Maas can do.



Kai's staff is so sharp, Maas can't do anything with it. This makes me wonder though, why a staff would be sharp.



Antonio's Milk Pan is the second strongest weapon in the entire group? This just raised further questions about my comrades and their weapon choices. We set out on our trip to Kouan, and we were set upon by Rocs! Go forth, Antonio! Use that sharp milk pan!



We continued our trip, and had almost made it to Kouan before we were attacked again. This time, it was Killer Rabbits! Let's see what Kai and his sharp staff can do.



Sounds interesting. Let's do this!



Holy shit! Once the carnage was over, we entered Kouan, and made our way to the inn.



: (Recruit) Gee, I dunno. ummm... Forget it. I don't hang around with weaklings.

Hey, isn't that the hunchback from earlier? What is he doing here?

: Going to Lepant's mansion? Hee hee, forget it. You're wasting your time. I won't stop you from going, of course, so go ahead. I have a better idea, though... hee hee.

He's a psychic! Sorceror! How does he know what we're here to do? There's magic in that there hunchback. At any rate, Lepant would see us. After all, we're the Liberation Army.



: When will he be free?

: I don't know. Tomorrow, perhaps, or the day after, or in a month, or even a year.

Fuck you, guy.

: You went to Lepant's mansion? Hee hee! You guys would never get in, even if you spent years in front of his house. I have a much better plan. Care to hear me out? You'll get to meet Lepant.



(Second Choice)

: Then go ahead and waste your life away, stupid.



: Are you ready to hear me out now?

(First Choice)

: Good. But this is not the place. Let's go to the inn.

But, aren't we already at the inn?



: Don't rush me now. Do you know why Lepant won't see anyone?

: Why?

: He doesn't want to get involved with guys like you who defy the Empire. That's why he refuses visitors.

: Buy why? That's not like what Mathiu told us about him.

: I don't know anything about that. Anyway, let's get down to details. Lepant treasures two things above all else. One is his wife Eileen. The other is the great sword Kirinji.

: So...

: So if you steal Kirinji, Lepant will most certainly come after you. Then, after your face him, you can talk to him, or blackmail him, or whatever you like. Understand?

: I see. So how do we steal Kirinji?

: Hee hee. Just leave that to me. Wait here a while, then come on over to Lepant's house. I'll see you later, hee hee.

: Are we pretending to be thieves now? How pathetic!

: Who's pretending? We are thieves.

Some time passed. Inns are pretty boring.

: It's about time we got going.



That was his plan? He threw a rope up around a branch?

: Aren't you coming?

: My job is done. Now it's your turn. I'll be waiting here.



How we weren't seen up on Lepant's roof, I will never know.

While exploring Lepant's mansion, we found his vault.



: Are you people from the Liberation Army? I see. Mind if I ask you something? Is the Liberation Army's vault big? What, you don't have one yet? But, do you plan to build a big one? I see, I see. Master Tir, I was hoping to join the Liberation Army for quite some time. Please let me join. (Recruit) Th-thank you so much. L-let's go and b-build a b-big one.



Well, he better guard my vault better than he guarded Lepant's! As we looted Lepant's house, looking for Kirinji, we were attacked by Mechanomen! Take this!



It wasn't long before we stumbled into a trapped room. It looked like the Mechanical soldiers would kick us out if we walked into their line of sight.



That was simple. (These are clearly prototypes for Genome soldiers.) A few moments later, we ran into someone else in Lepant's mansion. Let's hope he's not going to rat us out.



: Who are you?

: Me? I'm Juppo the Trickster. Who are you?

: Trickster? Did you make this contraption?

What contraption?

: That's right, that's right. Do you like it?

: You must be kidding.

: Hey you, turn that infernal contraction off, right now.

Contraction? Viktor am smrt.

: Hmmm, that may be difficult. The dolls I can shut off, but the big one, impossible. So enjoy it, soldiers of the Liberation Army.

What is it with people in Lepant's house and big ones? Compensation? It wasn't long until I found out what the contraption was. In the next room, there was a giant roulette wheel that would prevent us from getting to the next room.







(Incidentally, this is actually the first time I ever got that item.)



Hell yes. Screw grinding, gonna ride the EXP wheel all day! We finally made it across the ridiculous contraption.



: This must be Kirinji. A remarkable piece of work.



: Cleo, let's get going.

: Don't be such a chicken, Gremio.

: We can't have the McDohl scion getting captured as a common thief.

We made our way back through all the deactivated robots and traps, and returned to Krin.



: Good work. Let's go back to the inn.

And so we returned to the inn.



: I snuck in there once myself, but some kind of weird doll appeared, and I ran off without taking anything.

: You knew, yet you still made me go?

Gremio's such a prima donna.

: No harm done, hee hee. Anyway... You must be tired. How about some tea?

: Tea?

: Tea?

: Did you say tea?

: TEA?!

: Krin.

: What is it? Hee hee.

: You go ahead and drink it first.

: Oh, no, you go ahead. I didn't work, and I'm not tired, hee hee.

Don't sell yourself short, Krin. You threw the rope up in the tree!

: That figures. Think we're stupid enough to fall for such an old trick?

: You did, once before.

So did you Cleo. We beat Krin up, and stuffed him in a bed.

: What a scoundrel.

: That was quick. He's found us already.

: Heh heh. I told him where you were. So you'd get captured in your sleep.

: Let's go.



: Return it immediately, or I'll..

Stab us with a sword you don't have?



(First Choice)

: You thieves! Too frightened to say anything?

: What's the matter, Young Master. Let's tell him the truth.

: Master Tir, have you forgotten what Mathiu said? He's Lepant. Probably.

(Second Choice takes us straight to this point)

: What? Mathiu... If Mathiu is involved, I'd like to help you. But there are certain things I cannot give up. So please return Kirinji and be on your way.



(First choice and loop)

: I'm sorry, but when I think about how my wife will miss me, I can't. (Please?) If my life belonged to myself alone, I would gladly help you. But such is not the case. (Come on!) I'm sorry. I can't give up this life right now. For my wife's sake.(Loop)

(Second choice)

: Thank you. I'll be on my way, then.



: What's the matter, Giovanni?

: Madam...Madam...

: What about Eileen?

: The new Military Commander took her away. I tried to stop him. But...

: What!

Lepant charged out of the Inn, leaving us behind.
