Part 116: Fury Sparks

Alright, back to the plot. We're supposed to go fetch the leaders of Dahngrest and Nordopolica and bring them to Aurnion. First, Dahngrest.

I wonder if this place is any good.
This place is no good. And Zaphias won't work either.
We gotta make things fair for everyone.
This is something important. For the Empire and for the Guilds...
Hmph. I'm not going to be used like some messenger.
I don't want to leave Dahngrest at a time like this. It's up to you, Harry.

What? This is important! You're just going to decide like that?!
It's alright. I'm not going to question Harry's decision back there.
Hmm...
That settles it. We'll be back at the little prince's earliest convenience.
Okay.

That works, I suppose. Next, Nordopolica.

Yes. Thank you.

We got his approval really fast.
He's seen through the world's changes before his very eyes. He doesn't have an ounce of suspicion when it comes to others.
I wonder if the Union and the Palestralle can get along.
Of course they can. They are of the same guild afterall.

They'll have to get along.
You're right!
There's still that little prince.
Let's go back to where Flynn and the others are. Maybe they've made some progress.
Yeah. Let's head back first.

Skit: Favorite Places
It's amazing how many different types of cities there are across the world!
Oh yeah, you grew up inside a castle, didn't you? That must've been tough.
But I have to say, I like the capital best out of everywhere we've seen.
Me too. I love the feeling of freedom in the air that the capital has!
I love the cozy humidity of Dahngrest!
Who needs that muggy town when you can have the breezy, gentle living of Aspio?
Sounds like you all think the places that are the best are the ones you're most used to.
Well, everyone loves the place where they grew up.
Mmm, Dahngrest is nice, but I gotta go with Yumanju. ♪
Because you could spy on women every day?

Yeah, there's that little crack in the wall between the men's and women's baths, and ya--
No! No, never!
...You mean it'd be just the thing to soothe the aches and pains of old age?
...Exactly! ...Yer a boy after my own heart, Yuri.

Skit: The State of the Union
The Don's absence is still hanging heavily here.
Hmm, yeah, I guess so.
But, still, they're not doin' half bad.
You...think so?
Sure. They may not show it much, though. These guys prefer keeping their distance.
Stand firm, don't fight. Watch out for each other, help each other out. Not to close, not too far...
I'd say they're doin' just fine.
So they don't just simply get along... Men are so complicated.
Men aren't the only ones...

And... huh, this developed quite a bit since the last time we were here.

Watch the cutscene!

I can't believe the city's come this far so quickly...

Looks like they burned themselves out.

I guess this is what people do when they work together.

Hats off to you.
How are things on your end, Yuri?
We talked to them. We also told them that we'd talk to His Majesty when we could.
Okay. I talked to His Majesty, and it looks like he'll come. He's coming by ship now.
He's taking the slow route...

Really? Won't Ba'ul get angry?
There's no time, right? Ba'ul understands that, too.
That would be a great help.

So the leaders of the world will finally come together.
Now we just have to see if they understand what we're doing.
Yeah.

Watch the cutscene!

Turn all the world's cores into spirits...
...It's an extraordinary story...

But that's the reality we're up against.

There may be no choice... but do you really think people will listen?

We can keep moving forward, even if it's hard.
Yeah. That's why we're doing this.
...The empire's duty is to prevent confusion and guide people to the future. Now is the time to reign for the people.

Making new things that will serve for blastia... Oh, there's business to be done.
We have to think of a way to fight off the monsters without the barriers.

What about combining the reformed knights with the guilds?
Sounds interesting, but I don't know if it'll go smoothly.

Yuri and his party walks outside. Flynn notices and follows.

That's not our job.

Somehow, I think people will have a harder time than they're thinking. It's their job to get ready for that. Our job...

...I see.
Sorry. We left all the dirty work to you.
That's my line. We always leave the hardest part to you all. I apologize.

But how are we supposed to access all the world's cores?
I think I know a way... There was something in the research Alexei and Barbos did.

Really?! Where's that note?
Umm... I brought it with my personal things.

Rita runs off.

H-hey! Wait! You can't just go looking in people's stuff!
Oh! I'm going too.

Estelle follows Rita and Witcher.

They just took off...
Looks like there's a tiny bit of hope.
Yes, it does. I'm sure she'll find an answer if she's that worked up.
Let's just hang out until she does.

Alright, some time to explore the town.

Right now, there's not a whole lot to do though. We can check the inn and the shop, which has some really nice and very expensive equipment, and find the Wonder Chef to the east:

But what we really want to do is talk to Flynn near the center of town.

Watch the cutscene!

Hm? Yeah, sure. What's up?
...Not here. I'll be waiting at the entrance.
...?

We can also talk to Sodia here.

Let's see what Flynn wants.

Watch the cutscene! (Recommended)

Huh?
The people who command the entire world are gathered here. Now's the time to tell them all you've done.

Half of my achievements - or more - are really yours...

Why do you try to bear everything by yourself? Do you think I can't take the burden?

I know I can do what I want only because someone's watching out for me.
But...!

...Forget it. I can't explain. I'll just yell at you again.
Heh heh. In that case...

Yuri...!
You're not going to beat me in an argument. But you know what you can beat me in...

Yeah... You're right. Just like always.

...Good. Come on!

Watch the battle! (Same video as before, still recommended; 360 version, Normal)
Watch the battle! (PS3 version, Hard)

Or at least listen to the battle music.

Listen to the full conversation!

You keep getting better!
You do, too.
Guess life has taught us both a few things.

How many years has it been since we fought like this?
Uh, we fought in the coliseum. Did you forget already?

Of course not. Just, you know, a lot of stuff has happened. It's...
Yeah?
It's just different.

Heh. Yeah. It feels different for me too.
I wonder what it is.

Does it matter? I am so gonna kick your ass!

No no no no no no, I'm gonna kick your ass!

Ooooh, it's on now!!

Man I love this conversation. Anyway! We just went into Overlimit so let's just activate our Mystic Arte, right?

Wait, what...

Uh-oh.

Yep. Trying to use a Mystic Arte here causes Flynn to counter with his own. If you never attempt one, Flynn will never use his either. But, as soon as you triggered it once, Flynn will start using it on his own when he gets into Overlimit.

Also, he evidently doesn't know the name of his own Mystic Arte, as he loudly exclaims Light Dragon Destruction! when he uses it.

Apart from that, this is what you'd expect: A really good 1 VS 1 rivalry fight.

Flynn gets to use a lot of more artes here than he had back in the fight against the whole bunch of monsters, too.

And yes, he can heal himself.

Here's an example of him just using his MA on his own after we triggered it once.

Heh.

He even gets a spell!

The Secret Mission is allowing him to use all his artes. This includes his Mystic Arte. Sadly, this mission can be kind of annoying when the AI doesn't want to cooperate.

This is a tough battle and you'll probably have to use a bunch of gels to win. But it's really fun.

In the PS3 version, this battle is tweaked a bit. Here's his PS3 stats on Hard:

And for comparison, his 360 stats on Hard:

First off, he seems to have the Rival Energy 2 skill, which allows him to enter overlimit when you enter overlimit, sometimes.

And of course, he gets a couple of his new PS3 Artes.

Some of these, like Hell Pyre or Rising Falcon, are actually really annoying to deal with!

And of course, he can still throw you into the sky with his Mystic.

Something that's not really visible from the screenshots is that Flynn has the ability to just cancel out of stagger and counter back while you're comboing him. He can do this in both versions, but it's way more common in the PS3 one.

And there you have it.

Here's one more fight if you want to watch, where I play around for a bit to get him to use all his Artes.

Secret Mission reward:

Achievement/Trophy:

Secret Mission 21 (360) / Secret Mission 23 (PS3)

Hah hah hah. Loser.
You've gotten better, Yuri.
...You too. You would've beaten me easy if you were still like when we were kids.

Yeah...

Even if we bear different burdens.
Even if people praised us, or hated us...
The knights and the guilds won't change. Right?

That's why we're not alone.

Bonus: If you lose against Flynn, the game continues as normal with a minor dialogue change:

Watch the cutscene!

I told you. Everything I feel.
