Part 54: The Weasand of Cados Part 2

A short walk after the last cutscene, we reach another.

Watch the cutscene!

This is just like at Keiv Moc! Is there an aer krene here, too?
What do we do?
Charge right in!
...I don't think so.
Judith is right! Touching aer that thick is dangerous!

Regaey starts running away, but is stopped by more aer.

Uagh!!
It looks like we'll have to keep our distance...
W-what's this sh-shaking...

Is that the monster you were talking about, Karol?
N-no... I've never seen a monster like that before...

The monster starts sucking in the aer around it.

It ate the aer...?
Aaah...!

Oh no...
This is not...good...

The monster takes off and dissappears to wherever it came from.

Regaey resumes running away.

You're not getting away again!

Rita, be careful!
Don't worry. It's not harmful at its current density.
What the hell just happened?
The monster we just saw somehow normalized the aer krene that was out of control...

Could it be the same thing that guy did with his sword back in Keiv Moc?!
Can we pass through it...? Rita!
Oh, uh, r-right. It should be okay...
What's the matter?
I have to figure this out... I mean, this is what I'm traveling for...
Come on, Rita.
I know, I know. We have to follow him...but...I just...
That aer krene isn't exactly goin' anywhere, is it?

...Oh...I see what you mean...

...Okay, let's go.
All right! Karol, are you okay?
Y-yeah...peachy... No, really, I'm fine.

Skit: It Ate the Aer!
A monster that consumes aer...?
Just what was that creature?
It did seem different from other monsters somehow.
...Yeah, that's for sure. It also looked like it was staring at us.
Maybe it was wonderin' which one of us to eat first.
...I-it looked into my eyes for quite a long time, actually...
How nice for you. He must have thought you looked the tastiest.
I don't think I'd call that nice...

The rest of the cave is similar to the earlier parts, just with more forks in the path.

Skit: Aer Krene
I never would've guessed there would be an aer krene in the Weasand of Cados.
I guess nobody passing through ever noticed it.
It must not have been putting out enough aer until now for anyone to feel the effects.
It sure picked the perfect time to start going crazy. That was a serious pain.
Well, I was able to log a new discovery, so it worked out in the end.
Yeah, so glad you enjoyed yourself.

Skit: Going and Coming
What's with you, Karol? You've been nervous for a while now.
Come on, we'll lose Regaey if we don't hurry up!
B-but, there might be dangerous monsters in there...
What are you talking about?! We can't just take this sitting down!
We can't let him have that box, Karol!
I'm just a little, tiny, eensy-weensy bit curious as ta why he took that box. So let's find out!
*Woof!*
I don't know if you all are brave or crazy...
I guess I'm outvoted...?
Argh, I've had enough of this! I'll blast away Regaey AND the monsters! Let's go!

Watch the cutscene!

Repede runs into Regaey, causing him to drop the box.

B-b-but how did you...?

Repede smashes the box towards Yuri.

Good work, Repede. Looks like our little game of tag is over, Regaey.

Fade to white, fade back in.

Huh. So that's what's been going on.
What does this mean? Was he disguising himself as Regaey...?
I don't think we have time to worry about the particulars right now.
Oh me oh my, how terribly frightening. I don't know what I'd do if I were to end up like poor Ragou.
What do you mean...? What happened to him?

Ragou is...dead? But why?
Afraid that's not for me to say, nein, my lips are zipped up tight for sure.
...

Gauche, Droite--the rest I leave up to you.
As you wish.
Aye aye, sir. ♪

Yeager runs towards the exit, while Gauche and Droite start slashing the bats.

Not on my watch!
See you in the funny papers, leibchen!

It always hurts to read butchered German...

That's him! It's Pteropus!

I hate this boss. Not only does the way it comes into existance seem completely arbitrary, it's also a bitch to fight if you can't stunlock it to death -- and if you do that you miss out on the secret mission.

His gimmick is that he can split into several small bats if you let him.

When he splits, four Attack and four Magic Bats appear in addition to the Leader Bat, which is the boss himself.

After a while, if you have not killed the Leader Bat, he'll unite to Pteropus again.

The boss doesn't have a lot of attacks, but those he and his bats have are really annoying. This here as well as the Attack Bat's main attack (see below) causes confusion, which shuffles both your movement directions and your attack/arte/guard/switch target buttons. As far as I know, the AI starts just using random attacks and artes if it gets affected. It's quite annoying.

Obligatory Over Limit.

The magic bats are probably the most annoying ones, having the ability to cast both Wind Blade and Splash. Wind Blade isn't so bad, but Splash locks you in place for several seconds, in which you can get hit by another Splash. You probably want to take care of the Magic bats first when he splits.

The secret mission is killing the leader bat, which isn't so hard, but means you're left with 4 magic and attack bats that you have to kill one-by-one. In several playthroughs, I died after killing the Leader Bat due to the other bats.

Apart from that, there's not much to say. It's just a really annoying boss.

Secret Mission reward:

Achievement/Trophy:

Secret Mission 9 (360) / Secret Mission 10 (PS3)

We need no succor from our enemies...
You're not gonna make fools of us...
But, with those injuries...!

Man this stinks... Where'd this smoke come from...?
*Sniff, sniff.*
They're throwin' our canine friend here off the scent...

Aah... Wh-what is with this heat...?

Whoa... We made it all the way there?
The Sands of Kogorh. Phaeroh's here.
I... I'm going on... to meet Phaeroh.
Wait! We can't just let you go alone. I mean, our job right now is to protect you.
Well... We did get the stolen box back, right?
Yeah, I guess we can't just keep chasing him around. Hmm, all right, we'll take care of 'em next time.
Hold on. Are you seriously going?

I'm ready for it...I think...
...The desert is divided into three regions.
Huh?
The foothills to the west, the center where it's hottest, and the massive peaks to the east.
H-hey, hold on...
...There's a town between the end of the western foothills and the central area.
Where did you hear that?
I went there with a friend once. It's a nice town built up around an oasis.
We'll hold off on any major decisions until we get there, then.
Sounds good to me. Old Raven won't be able ta think straight till he cools off.
...Rita...
...I know. We'll make that our first destination.

Skit: Yeager
I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that Regaey was Yeager's alter ego.
This spells out the connection between Ruins' Gate and Leviathan's Claw pretty clearly.
And that Yeager was the boss of both guilds.
Isn't it kinda early ta say that for sure?
It is possible that the Regaey we met was just Yeager puttin' on a show.
Maybe the real Regaey's off in some ruins someplace, just diggin' away, happy as a clam.
We're gonna have a hell of a time, if it's really that complicated.
I dunno, maybe I'm just puzzlin' over it a little too hard.
We'll have to keep at it until we get to the bottom of this mess.

Before leaving for the desert, though, we'll go back to the first savepoint in Cados. On the way, new artes are learned:

Shining Dragon Swarm! One of my favorite artes, it combines Shining Fang with a couple slashes before the sword-spinning part. Can also be linked from Shining Fang!

And Estelle gets Angel Ring, a light-elemental attack magic. Creates a circle around the enemy which then contracts, forcing all enemies it hits into the middle. It's okay.

Watch the cutscene!

If you're here for the aer krene, the monster already got it under control.
I heard...
Heard? From who...?
But Regaey--err, I mean Yeager--was the only other person here then...
Wait, then you and Yeager are...?!
I thought I told you... Stay away from the aer krene.
Sorry about that. We just totally stumbled on this one by accident. Honest.
Then you will leave immediately. Do not return again.
Hold on a second...

We're already here so...we can just leave after you've examined it.
...You're kidding, right? Aren't there plenty of other things we should be doing instead?
Well, WE do, but...
...
We all do.
...Estelle.
All right, then. Let's go. Rita, you too.

And that's all in this cave for now.

The oasis town is just a couple steps away from the cave exit.

We're going to enter next time. Until then!
