Part 71: Myorzo's Bell

Skit: Phaeroh's Words
All that stuff about the balance of the world is pretty hard to take in...
Yeah. I hadn't even been outside the capital until just a while ago myself.
And now we're here talking about the fate of the world. You never know what life'll bring you.
But isn't that what makes it interesting?
I don't think we can afford to be that relaxed anymore. Estelle doesn't have much time left.
What's the harm? It's not as if acting all serious is going to solve anything.
Besides, Estelle will notice if we look all worried.
W-well, maybe so, but...
We won't forget what Phaeroh said. Relax.
I know, it's just...
Estelle's got it the worst. If we get too down about this, we won't be much help to her.

Watch the cutscene!

Well, I suppose we can all stay at my place...
Wait. There's something I want to take care of first.
...You mean me.
Karol.
This is a guild thing. Best for us not to get involved.

And I realized... We have to figure out a few things if we're going to keep this guild going,
It sounds like you've decided what we should do.

Those who break the laws suffer strict punishment. Even if they're friends or family. They say that's the source of a guild's pride.
Yes...
So what I'm thinking is...

What do you mean?
I didn't know that Judith was fighting for our planet, all on her own. But even though I didn't know, I still failed to help a fellow guild member. So I gotta accept my punishment.
Yuri.
Me?
Maybe you were trying to "follow your own path," but you still kept things hidden from us. There's no way that can be for the good of the guild.
Well...
So you gotta be punished, too.
Now he's stretching it.
...The laws are important.

To be honest, I just don't know yet... So that's why we should all just accept our punishment, and start over from scratch. What do you think?
I can't promise I won't have my secrets in the future.
Well, if that's the way it is--if you can't trust us--then there's nothing you can do. That would be my fault.
And what if I destroy a blastia that our guild was planning on using again? That would be breaking the law that says I should act in the interest of the guild.
But you'd also be acting for the sake of the world.

Um, doesn't that sort of make your laws meaningless?
Hah hah hah. I've never heard of a guild like this before. But you've got me interested, I'll give ya that much.
Heh heh heh.
Karol, you're just full of surprises. I'd thought plenty about myself and what I should be doing... But I might not have considered how my actions would affect you guys. This is a way of settling things I didn't even realize existed.

I just wanted each of our own paths to be the same as Brave Vesperia's.
Heh, sounds all right with me. You heard the man, Judy. I guess that's where we stand.
You really are some of the oddest people I've ever met... But... I suppose I can manage to put up with you.

They're just making it up as they go, aren't they? Is that all a guild is?
Heh, the Don ran his guild just a teensy bit differently.
There's something beautiful about this way, though.
So, what about the punishment?
Oh yeah! I almost forgot. Umm...
Looks like you guys are on Krityan researcher detail. We'll be relaxing at my place.
Hey! Why do you get to decide...?

Hah hah. No ma'am.
No.
Uh-uh...

Skit: Reconciling with Judith
Karol, were you thinking by yourself this whole time about what to do with Judy?
Yeah, it was pretty much all I thought about after we left Nordopolica.
That...and about what you did to Ragou and Cumore.
Really? It's nice to hear you thought about me that much, even when I wasn't around.
Yeah... I wasn't sure at first. What was right, what was wrong... I think I have the Don to thank for setting me straight.
Without the Don's last words, I never would have found answers to the questions I had.
"You gotta stand on your own two feet."
Yeah, I was thinking about what that meant. And before I knew it, I wasn't thinking about what was right. I was thinking about what I want to do...
And that helped you decide what to do with the guild.
Yeah. So here's to fresh starts!
Yeah.
To fresh starts.

Aspio isn't very big, so finding a Krytian is pretty simple. However...

That's the name of the city that they talk about in the Krityan legends. That's all I know. Location? I don't know where it is. And even if I knew, I don't think it will be of any good to tell it to someone other than a Krityan.

To get him to talk, we simply have to switch over our leader to Judith, which is why we got an S Flag as a guaranteed drop on our last boss battle.

Good day, my sister.
Judith.
I'm Tort.
You wouldn't happen to know anything about Myorzo, would you? I'd like to go there. I need to know where Myorzo is located...and how I can get there.
Even if you reach the city, there won't be anything for you to see there. But what do you plan on doing there, anyway?
Is not a Krityan's interest in her own ancestral city reason enough to go?
That is an acceptable reason. But I'm afraid I don't know anything about where it could be.
I've heard your name before, Tort.

Will you not tell me because these humans are with me?
Our ancient law states that we cannot show anyone but our brothers and sisters the way to Myorzo.
Shouldn't it be a matter of whether they can be trusted, rather than whether they're Krityan or not? At the very least, these humans can be trusted.
...I shall ask once more. Why do you seek Myorzo?

We want to go to know what happened in the past, and how we can stop it. We want to help everyone, not just the Krityans...how's that?

I do not know if you'll find the answers to your questions, but I will show you the way. But there is one condition.
What's the condition?

The Egothor Forest? On the continent of Hypionia, isn't it? I've heard of it before...
Yes, the sacred land of the Krityans is located there. So that's where the door to Myorzo is...

They have not only invaded our sacred land, but they have also brought strange blastia with them. I don't know what they're up to, but it can't be good.
So if we go to Myorzo, we have to do something about them?
Exactly. We need you to restore peace to our sacred land.
What's happening?
Once you have driven out the interlopers, ring this bell. The door to Myorzo will open for you.

...Thank you.
May the road rise up to meet you, sister.
And you, as well...

Yeah.

Sidenote, you may have noticed that the Krytian here introduces himself and is referred to as Tort, but is listed as Toth in his name tag. This is consistent this way every time he comes up in the English 360 version, which is admittedly not a whole lot. That's a translation goof, it's supposed to be one and the same.

This conversation goes a bit differently in the PS3 version.

[...]

...Very well. I do not know if you'll find the answers to your questions, but I will show you the way. First, you will need a certain bell to act as a guidepost.
A bell?

Hypionia is... pretty big, you know?

Additionally, there is a door within the cave that only us Kritya can open.
What do you mean?
It's okay. I'll take care of it.
And after that? What do we do once we have the bell?
Just slow down. Humans are so hasty. Once you have the bell, head for Egothor Forest.

[...]

Exactly. We need you to restore peace to our sacred land.
I see. So basically we have to go to that sacred land of yours with the bell and knock some sense into that unknown group. Then if we ring the bell, the door should open, right?
That is correct.
Got it. Thank you.

[...]

Now that we know where to go next, we'll go meet up with the rest of our party at Rita's place.

I'm pretty sure it's on the west side of Hypionia, to the south of here.
So Myorzo's in that forest?
No, but a door is.
Huh? A door? What do you mean?
There's a door there that leads to Myorzo. It'd be fastest to just go and check it out.

Perhaps we should get some rest before leaving?
But...
We don't really have a choice.

[...]

Huh? A door? What do you mean?
The door that leads to Myorzo.
...He said the bell that will open the door is hidden in a cave on a beach in Hypionia where red flowers bloom.
It'd be fastest to just go and check it out.
First...let me rest...
Perhaps we should get some rest before leaving?
But...
We don't really have a choice.
In that case, I'll take a stroll through the city and see if I can't find any clues about the treasure.
Hey, you'd better rest too-- and there she goes...
Anyway, let's rest up, then look for that cave in Hyponia.

In the 360 version, we can now head straight to Egothor Forest.

In the PS3 version, however, we've got some other stuff to do first. After leaving Rita's place, we first meet up with Patty in Aspio's town square.

No. There were all sorts of books, but I found no mention of Aifread.
Of course not. This city only has books related to blastia.
Guess I have no choice. I'll travel with you all a little longer and look for clues.
Man: ...Did you just say Aifread?
Huh?

...
Man: If you're not denying it, that means it's the truth. So you're the granddaughter of that disgrace to the guilds. Huh, you're just a little brat.
...
Man: Why don't you open your mouth and say something? Don't you have any words of defense for your grandfather? Oh, I get it. With all that man did, there's nothing you CAN say.
How could you say something so cruel!?
Man: How? Well, it's the truth. And? Are you all the new members of Siren's Fang?
W-we're Brave Vesperia!
Man: Brave Vesperia? Sounds pretty shady. What kinda work do you do?
Uh, um, well...
If we tell you, will you give us a nice job of some sort?
Man: I-I don't have any work for suspicious characters that associate with Aifread like your lot. Brave Vesperia, huh? Sounds like another guild that will bring disgrace to guilds everywhere. Too many of those lately.

Man: Y- you're... Rita Mordio?!
Every time I leave town, plebs like you come out of the woodwork. Ugh, it'd be a real pain if anyone thought we were related somehow. Come on, let's go.

Man: N-no...

Now what do we do? That person's probably going to spread rumors about us.
Forget about it. Where would we be now if we let that kind of thing get to us?
Exactly. People who want to talk can talk all they want.
I...
A beach with red flowers in full blossom on Hypionia, was it?
Uh, yeah.
All right, let's go take a look.
...

After that, we need to search around for that cave. It's on a beach in southern Hypionia, and thanks to its red color pretty easy to find.

This is it! ...Right?
It looks like it matches up with what Tort said.
A beach with red flowers in full blossom on Hypionia, right?
Are you sure he wasn't just lying to you guys?
Either that, or we got the wrong place.
Wait. There's air coming out of here.
So there's a cave inside.
Move!

It opened!

What bad taste! Who'd cover up a cave like that?
Perhaps it was done so someone shady like you couldn't get in.
Ahh, are you taking shots at me, Judith?! How heartless!

What the matter, Patty?

I-it's nothing! It just looks so dark, I got scared for a second.
You're scared of the dark? You're such a child!
You're saying that?
You can wait here if you're scared.
It's okay! I'm going too.

You might be expecting a dungeon here, but nope, this cave can't be called that.

It's just a couple cutscenes.

No monsters, no boss, and just two random treasure chests with equipment for Patty:

A short way in we run into the first cutscene.

Huh? What's that?

What are all these stones doing here? There are so many of them! It's creepy...
These couldn't be... Graves?
Maybe we really did wind up in the wrong place.
Even if that is the case, there are just so many... How could this happen? Why!?

Who would've thought we'd find a place like this while looking for the gate to the city of the Kritya.
...
Something's written here.

"Here we mourn the dearly departed, and return them to the Earth."
All of these are victims of the Black Hope Incident!?

Yes, but... this is just so much...

Patty!
But... I... I can't...
Patty...

Well, you can't blame her. There's no way you could expect someone to accept this at her age.
...
I wonder who built these graves.
I don't know. Maybe a survivor?
But... This is so...

Huh? By yourself?
We can't drag Patty around in her current state, can we?
It doesn't seem like there are any monsters around. Let's go with her. Repede, stay here and watch over Patty.

Woof!

Look at those awesome shades on Repede. So good. Also have another shot a second or two before the above.

After that, we just head into the cave a bit further to arrive at a dead end and another cutscene.

It's a dead end.
Raven could be right. We might have come to the wrong spot.
But I didn't see any other beaches with red flowers.
Could you give me a moment?

"Let this deception be undone. It is I of our chosen people, whom thou has eagerly awaited."

A door?

The Kritya have an ancient power called nageeg that allows us to read information contained in objects. Using that power, I read the password that removed the spell on this rock wall.
I see. That's what Tort meant when he said it was a door only the Kritya could open.
Okay, let's head in.

Could this be the key to the door to Myorzo?
I suppose so. He said it was a bell, so this must be it.

But really, I wonder who decided to put all these graves where the bell was hidden?
It must have been a coincidence.
Maybe. The person who made the graves probably didn't know it was the bell's hiding place.
There's no way they could have known, with the way that door was hidden.
Maybe the person who blocked the entrance is the same one who made the grave site.
You think so?
Who knows? It could have simply been done as a counter measure against grave robbers. Or there could have been something that needed to be hidden, no matter what.
Tort certainly didn't say anything about the entrance. That could be it.

Either way, we got the bell. Let's head back to Patty.

It's possible.
Patty...
That's the truth she wanted to find.
Yes... But I'm sure she wasn't even remotely prepared for this.
Yeah. Let's hurry back to her.

Yep, that's the entire cave.

Good job, Repede. We got what we were after.
Woof!
Patty, can you stand? We're heading out.
...We're going already?
Will you be okay?
I'm... all right now.
Don't push yourself.

Can you walk?

Is she...?

Let's get outta here and back on track.

Now we just have to ring the bell in Egothor Forest.
Indeed.

What's up?
I was thinking, it's about time I say bye bye to all of you.

Do you really feel that way?
Why so suddenly? Do you not like traveling with us?
That's not it.
If you're just worried about troubling us over the whole Aifread thing...
I can't trouble you guys any longer. Even if it doesn't bother you guys... it bothers me.
Patty...

Why are you bringing this up now?
Rita?
Everyone is troublesome in their own way. What'll change so much if you join us?
Rita...
We're not about to hold you back if you want to leave to focus on what you really want to do, though.
I...
It'll be kinda lonely 'round here if you leave, Patty.

We've crossed the desert and fought many battles together.
Besides, you don't really need to make that decision right here and now, do you?
Also, if you left now, we wouldn't be able to operate the ship, so we'd be in a bind as well.

Why don't you think about it after you've cooled your head a bit? Then you can make whatever decision you want. Is there really any problem with coming with us until then?
...Got it.
So then, Egothor Forest is next, right?
We'll eliminate anyone suspicious, and then we just need to ring the bell.
Yes.

No, I don't know why we need someone to steer the boat when we can fly around with Ba'ul. Oh well.

Skit: Companion
...
Patty, are you all right?
Well, she's got no memory, and had no idea what her grandfather did. Seeing the truth of the matter must have been really discouraging.
*Whine*
She just looks so sad. I don't know what to say to her.
I think it's best to just leave her be.
Oh, Repede!
Woof!
Repede... What is it?
Woof!
Repede... You know...
Dogs are the best companions at times like these.
I hope she can sort out her feelings by doing so, even if just a little.

And with that, we meet back up with the 360 storyline.

Next time, Egothor Forest!
