Chapter 5 Big Trouble in the little Temple of MarsWelcome back! Today its time to tackle the Temple of Mars. I restributed some items (Far Healing staff to Enteh, normal healing staff to Plum etc.) and am ready to go.
In addition to Gwenchaos chilling with Eisenbach, we have an assortment of Dark Priests and Dark Knights as enemies and a few Priests of Mars as allies.
In all honesty though, this chapter is kind of a non-chapter, as most allies and enemies are going to kill each other, leaving around 3 units for us to kill in the long run.
: We are the Four Sages of Liberia, the finest students of White Master Morse. Mios ,the Mage of Light, and Octovas, the Mage of Fire, have already succumbed to my spells of darkness. You are the only one left Eisenbach, the Mage of Wind. Do you still doubt my power now?
: You were cast out of our order because you broke the seal of that forbidden spell. You are a fool to not have realized your mistake yet!
: Hmph... Very well. Witness the power of Zahakk with your own eyes!
: Hahaha... Your actions fail your words. Hmph, I believe Ive seen enough of you, old friend. Let us put an end to this little game. Die, Eisen!
: Dagon, clean this mess up. And dispose of the other clerics while youre at it.
And with that Gwenchaos decides to teleport out.
: You can leave the temple to us. I will rescue my father...! Now go!
: Mother...
: No... Master Eisen!
: Enteh? Whats the matter? Wait! Dont rush off on your own!
And Enteh rushes off ahead of the group, as we get control of our units. Lets have a look at the boss and our allies.
Dagon is no one to be trifled with. He has great magic as well as skill and speed. He also comes with the first example of an AoE tome. Dark Hole hits a cross shaped area with decent power. Fortunately it can only be used every two turns, so we have to use that opening to pound him into the ground. He is further accompanied by Dark Knights equipped with Devil Spears (and they cant backfire for them) and Dark Priest with the Llanura spell which acts the same as the Nosferatu spell in the main series.
On our side we have Sylpheeze, who is going to act as a healer for Maharaj and herself.
Maharaj is the biggest problem in this map. He will rush towards Enteh, enemies be damned. As a result he tends to die on the first enemy turn even with his Charm item. Since you have to talk to him (or have him survive the chapter) in order to recruit him that gets kinda annoying. Your best choice is to open Enteh up for a one-hit kill (since the devil spear guys are capable of it) and equip her with the charm you got on map 1. In short Fuck Maharaj
Here I do as said above and ferry Enteh to the front in range of one of the Dark Knights and begin to pray.
The Priest start to battle it out and Maharaj begins his suicide run.
Enteh dodges the strike of the Dark Knight, saving the charm for a latter time.
And the RNG proves to have a sense of humor and lets Maharaj dodge all incoming attacks, just to spite me for risking Enteh.
Runan starts dispatching the knight that attacked Enteh...
And we are left with 3 enemy units as I foretold in the beginning.
Dagon murders a priest with his first Dark Hole cast.
Runan finishes off the knight that he was fighting and gets ready for the next one to rush in...
But that one rather chats with us
: I was a knight of a small kingdom in the north called Barge, but my country was destroyed and my family taken as slaves of Gazel. I became a dark knight in return for my familys safety, but my patience has come to an end. Please let me exile to your kingdom. I want to fight alongside you and liberate my homeland!
: An exile what do you think, Eugen?
: Well... Im very sorry to hear what happened. Very well, Sir Zieg, we shall welcome you. Let us fight together for our countries freedom.
: Thank you... You have my absolute loyalty. I am at your command.
: ...
Say hello to the best combat unit in the game. Zieg is downright amazing. Some of the best growths and stats in the game (He is a horseback unit so youre looking at his reduced stats). He comes with a great skillset including Elite and , as a Dark Knight, he can use cursed weapons without a chance of them backfiring on him.
We heal up and start spreading out into the main hall to prevent Dagon from having a cluster to target with Dark Hole.
Maharaj finally arrives at Enteh side and strikes up a conversation
: Whats going on!?
: Where is the Master!? Is Lady Sylpheeze safe!?
: Thats right...! Mother...! Enteh Im going back in. Dont move from here!
: No... I will go with you. I will never flee in the face of danger again. I can no longer tolerate people being hurt for my sake!
We start giving chase of the last Priest and Dagon and position ourselves accordingly. Bartz is thrown out as bait for Dagons Black Hole.
The Dark Priest attacks Vega with his magic dealing pitiful damage thanks to Schramm.
Zieg weakens the Priest
so that Runan can finish him off and level up in the process. Furthermore he learns Continue from reaching level 7.
Julia and Bartz take the Dark Hole and get ready to carve Dagons face in.
Enteh gets a fantastic level from healing Julia back to full health.
Julia then starts off the assault on the boss. Notice how his speed is no longer affected by the weight of Dark Hole since it auto de-equips itself after being used, until it can be used again.
On the following turn Julia brings him on the verge of death...
and Vega finishes him off
which triggers his Elixier, reviving him instantly...
And he flees with plot teleportation, ending the chapter.
: ...Master... All for my sake... Forgive me...!
: No... I have lived long enough... Enteh... Do not give in to evil... You must be strong... and live bravely...
: Yes... I will never lose again... I shall take good care of the life you left me...
: Ah... I can see the light... I have reached my destination at last...
: Master Eisen? No Master Eisen!
: This is The Wind of Miracles!? But I have nowhere near the skill necessary to use such a powerful spell.
: Maharaj, you are the grandson of Eisenbach, the Great Mage of the Wind. How will you live up to your name if you cannot master the spells of the Wind?
: But I really cant...
: Your grandfather broke the seal on the spell to make it usable for you. Do you know why he went that far?
: To... To protect Enteh?
: Yes. Now, it is your job to protect Enteh alongside Mahter. You are the only one left who can carry on the Masters legacy.
: Mother, you mist tell me about Enteh. I know nothing about her. Why is she being pursued? I need to know the reason for her danger if I am to protect her...
: An innocent girl is living in fear of an evil cult. For now, you must ask nothing and simply stay at her side. The truth will eventually become clear.
: The truth...
: Are you still blaming yourself? The Masters death isnt your fault. How many times do I need to tell you?
: ... Maharaj, do you know who attacked the Master?
: Pope Gwenchaos... I hear hes a fearsome sorceror who established the Theocracy of Gazel along with a group of evil cultists forty years ago.
: Yes, he is a terrible man. Three of the Great Sages have already died by his hand. Im so relieved you didnt follow the same fate...
: ... I regret running from the sorcerors of Gazel. Even without a chance of victory, I should have faced them like a man. Im ashamed that I survived, when so many of our comrades were killed...
: What are you saying, Maharaj! You wouldnt have stood a chance. Think of how Lady Sylpheeze would feel if you had been...

: Youre going with Prince Runan to the mainland, right?
: Yes... I cannot stay at the temple any longer...
: Ill join the Liberation Army, too. But its not for you, Enteh. Its for the people in the army who have the heart to say that they appreciate my skills.

: I dont know anything about you. Its been an entire year since you came to the temple, but never once did you open up to me.

: Yes... but thats because I like you, Maharaj. I apologize if that has upset you, though... Im sorry...
: Youre always like that! Fine, you can ask your precious Prince Runan to look after you. Ill defeat Gwen for myself. Ill have nothing to do with you anymore!

Wundergust is Maharaj personal tome. It has decent power and an inherent 20% chance to crit.
: ha, and you call yourself a Paladin, do you? .. Ah I see. Its that girl, isnt it? She is turning you into a gutless coward. I heard she left the Temple of Mars to chase after you. How embarrassing. She is the granddaughter of the Great Master Eisenbach and yet she broke her oath as a cleric to fulfill her desire for men.!

: Roger, I shall keep the girl for now. You will be able to fight without worry knowing that she is safe, wont you?
: Mel and I are engaged for marriage. We cannot be seperated from each other now!
: What? The other generals have given their entire families as hostages. And you dare complain about turning in a single girl?
: My lord!
: Dont worry, I wont lay a single finger on her. I shall give her back safe and sound once you get rid of the rebels. But if you still refuse, then you will take responsibility for your defeat. I will have your entire family executed! Is that really what you want?
: Erg...!
: Roger, do as the chancellor says... Ill be fine...

: Come, Roger, you have no need to worry. I shall take good care of the girl. Hahaha....

: Now, Roger, you will go under the command of General Berom. Strengthen the defense of Castle Wellt.
: ...
: Dommes, you will take your troops and set up a defense at the Wellt Bridge. You may take any man you see fit from the castle guard. Dont let the rebels cross that bridge alive!
Another chapter complete Next time we progress towards castle Wellt and attack the Wellt Bridge.

Zieg is utterly amzing. He has great starts all around and some of the best growths in the game. Unless you are seriously unlucky he will turn out great no matter what you do. Furthermore he can use cursed weapons without fear since he is immune to their negative effect.

Maharaj is the first mage you get in the game and he is decent. Biggest problem is going to be his abysmal Magic growth, which means he is going to fall behind in the damage department unless you are lucky. His personal tome, while nice, also loses out to the personal tomes of later units. Still he is the first unit you get that targets magic defense and he can turn out decent with a bit of luck. His skillset is okay, although you wont be able to get Charge without grinding him up.
