Part 20: Chapter 13 The Granada Privateers
Chapter 13 The Granada PrivateersWelcome back. Now its finally time to take Maerhen down for good.

This map is called the Sea Serpent of Senay.

Lets look at the notable part of the opposition.

On the far western end of the ship we have a mage that should be summoning stuff with his Harpy staff. For some reasons he never did it even though I was uncapable of killing him in one round with Mahter.

One of the 2 mercenaries on the map carries a Thunder sword which can be quite a pain since nobody short of Alicia really resists it. The other mercenary carries a Claymore.

Lastly we have another mage with a more direct form of attack. These guys are accompanied by a bunch of Archer and normal Pirates, all equipped with Shields with is responsible for quite some tedium on this map since we do not really have the strength to ignore them yet.

Here is the stat spread for Renee. Quite a nice case for gameplay and story segregation given that she could just warp away from her captors....

Maerhen is still as unimpressive as ever. His shield is annoying but he is no real threat and usually doesnt attack you anyway.

Lastly we have a new face. Krishna is a mix between a thief and a myrmidon. She is more combat capable than most thiefs but a far shot from a full fledged myrmidon. The charms will help out and the Main Gauche while being a pitiful weapon at least raises her Evasion by 20%

First turn is spent getting our team in position. Unfortunately I did a horrible job...

leading to Shigen getting killed... Thank god for his personal sword.

Alicia murders our first opponent of the day. She gets an ok level out of it although I would love some more magic for once.

Shigen enters the boat as well and takes bloddy revenge. This triggers another conversation.

Yes please, I want to see his face when she turns into a dragon

spoilsport

the dumb pirates just threw her off the ship on the high sea

And with that Krishna joins our side, while surrounded by enemies without having a way to hurt them. So we better get our asses over there to save her.

We continue to slaughter the pirates with an ok level for Julia and a bad one for Vega.

Krishna starts to eat lightning. Luckily she dodged the rest so she still has both charms.

Mahter finally kills the mage who still did nothing and grabs another summoning staff for Katri.

Time to save Krishna, who starts off by using one of her herbs.

Mahter grabs a nice level from dodging an axe.

Krishna not only manages to dodge the blow of the Claymore mercenary, but also stole his weapon, which is great cause he is now standing empty handed and cant OHKO her any longer.

The RNG giveth and taketh away

Some more level. Not the best level but at least strength is kinda nice for Atrrom and Lionel.

Even on healing duty Katri manages to kill stuff.

Our cavalry units still dont seem to agree with me.

Katri continues to laugh in my face for having to be deployed. Luckily she is only the staff chick and as such not quite as reliant on good stats. Also

Holmes takes the first shot at Maerhen

We finish of Maerhen in short order and finish the map with a great level for Attrom.

Continue please.

No! Dont go weak on me...

Dont trust the guy so easily... How did you survive this far?

Told you...

And thats it for the chapter. Maerhen and Krishna join our merry band. Lets see what they have to offer and then well be off to hunt for the Orb of Resurrection.

Krishna is the better of the two new recruits this chapter. However this means she only sucks less than Maerhen. She has decent starting stats but abyssmal growths which render her gimmick of being a fighting thief kinda useless. If you were lucky she might gain enough magic to use her with using magic swords but otherwise youre probably better off using a pure thief if you want to steal stuff because even with a promotion she wont stand up to the opposition for long and Holmes can open doors and chest just fine.

Do I even need to say anything? I have no idea what the plan was with Maerhen but hed be better off dead. He is the worst unit I have seen in any game of this kind and as such I wont even start to use him. Also Holmes wasnt kidding that he feels like Maerhen is ruining his day by standing next to him. As a secondary effect of Mug, which steals off a killed unit with 100% accuracy (which given his stats will never happen) it lowers the Evasion and Accuracy of allied units within three squares of Maerhen by 50% just to prove a point at how sucky you can make a unit.
