MS Saga: A New Dawn

Part 34

Before we head off to the Coliseum, I want to post the overworld music that begins to play after you defeat Vladi Zarth

This is easily my favorite track in the game.

I take a quick moment to stock up on restoratives, and then it's straight to the Coliseum.

Bring it on!

Welcome to the Champion League. The Coliseum is no longer fucking around.

The first round isn't all that tough. All the Zaku Cancers will do are melee attacks, so Vargas can stop them cold with a Counter Snipe.

They still pack a punch, though, so be careful.

Next.

The second round is a bit harder than the second, but not by much.

Chaff Field can stop any attack that uses their Hand Missiles.

It's best to guard when they use Gatling Body, since the cannons on their shoulders are Beam weapons.

Next.

Round three is against Jesus Christ!

The third round can be troublesome, since the Zaku Monsters have some devastating firepower as well as a ton of HP. You want to guard whenever they are about to use a Boost attack.

Just take them down one by one, and you'll be fine.

The last round is against the Nu Zaku.

You're gonna want to buff up, since the Nu Zaku in incredibly powerful.

The main attack to worry about is Ultimate Weapon, which is basically a super version of Gatling Fire that not only fires off all guns, but also uses it's melee weapons as well.

When he isn't using a Boost Attack, he'll be harassing you with High Funnel.

He'll also use Quick Fire, so be careful of that.

Still, while it is incredibly powerful, it's still only one suit, and the battle is soon over.

Fun fact: The last four battles all had a rather subtle theme going on. Can you spot what it was?

They were all different Zaku suits, starting with the Zaku-I (Zaku Cancer), Zaku-II (Zaku Kanone), Zaku-III (Zaku Monster), and ending with the Zaku-II Kai (Nu Zaku).

Fuck yes.

The Hyper Beam Sabre has a monstrous 300 attack, making it the strongest melee weapon we're going to be seeing for a while.

And it looks damn good on Katz' R-Jarja.

You're damn right I am.

However, while I may have conquered all of the leagues available at the Coliseum, this place still has one fight left in it.

I wonder who he could be...

...Say, doesn't this guy look a tad bit...

...familiar?

LET'S DO THIS!

So yeah... We're now fighting the Burning Gundam.

Here's the thing about the Burning Gundam.

The Burning Gundam is completely immune to all types of ranged weaponry, including techniques! the only way to do any damage to the Burning Gundam is with melee attacks.

I'm... gonna need to take some time to prepare...

Here is the team I took with me to take down the Burning Gundam.

Katz and Rezner are my main damage dealers. They both have Hyper charge, which will ignore the Burning Gundam's armor as well as prevent it from counter attacking. A buffed Hyper Charge will do about 2000 HP worth of damage, and the Burning Gundam has a ton of HP. Be prepared for a long fight.

Tremmie's Lightning Lancer can also do some damage, but not enough to match Katz and Rezner. she's mostly around to help with buffs and healing.

Vargas is almost essential to this fight. While ranged weaponry doesn't do any damage to the Burning Gundam, you can still stop a few of his melee attacks with Counter Snipe.

Fritz is THE most essential person on the team. You wouldn't think it, but the two most dangerous attacks in the Burning Gundam's arsenal is Shoot All (which deals around 800 damage to everyone) and Explosion, which is a buffed version of Shot Burst. Both of these can be stopped by Chaff Field. During the brief periods where Chaff Field isn't needed, he's busy with buffs and healing.

Lapis is completely worthless. the only reason I had her on the team was because at the time I had thought that Funnels would work against the Burning Gundam, only to find out during the fight that I was wrong. Best to stick with Bazuli since at least he can still heal and provide buffs.

Now let's talk about the fight proper.

Have some appropriate G-Gundam music to go along with the battle.

The first thing the Burning Gundam does is use Over Boost, which will greatly increase it's attack, defense, and speed. This is a permanent buff that you can not remove.

This was just it's basic melee attack.

Meet the most powerful attack in the Burning Gundam's arsenal. it goes before everything else, so there is absolutely no way to block it. All you can do is watch him absolutely murder whatever party member he hits.

Now, while it is difficult to predict what Boost attack the Burning Gundam will do next, there are a variety of 'tells' you can use thanks to the hud in the upper right of the screen.

At around 5 or 6 EN, the Boost with either be a Bakunetsu-Ken, or a Shoot All.

At around 7 EN, the Boost will more often than not be a Gatling Punch. stop this with a counter snipe.

At around 9 EN, the Boost will be an Explosion. set up a Chaff Field or defend, or else you will die.

At 10 EN, the Boost will be either a Tenha-Majin-Ken or an explosion. just to be safe, best to queue up a Chaff Field.

The Dreaded Explosion.

This fight is just one big battle of attrition. as long as you keep your health and buffs up, you should be fine. just be careful of Shoot All and Explosion.

Tenha-Majin-Ken might be scary, but remember that it can only target one character. just revive him the next turn.

After a long and difficult fight, the Burning Gundam finally falls.

Fuck yes.

Katz has now become the King of Hearts!

Next time, we finish off the remaining Overworld encounters.
