Sequence 6 (Mission 6)

INT. SOVIET HQ
The PLAYER’S POV joins Stalin and Nadia at a conference table, examining a map.

STALIN
You said this would not happen! No matter how many we kill, they keep coming.

NADIA
The United Nations is starting to back their cause.

STALIN
Damn them to hell! Incinerate them before they grow stronger.

Stalin pauses for effect.

STALIN (cont.)
You are failing me.

Kane enters, standing in the room’s recesses and watching the table.

NADIA
The bombs are almost ready, Comrade Stalin. The final elements are being transported to Gorzof Air Base.

STALIN
How?

Nadia indicates the map.

NADIA
By truck convoy...here.

Staling turns fiercely to the PLAYER’S POV.

STALIN
Guard that convoy with your life. It must get to Gorzof. If you fail, do not return. You would not leave this room alive.

Stalin exits with Kane.

CUT TO:
Sequence 6 (Mission 6)
Sequence 6A (If Mission 6 is won)

EXT. BASE
Soviet troops in protective gear unload the truck.

Sequence 6B (If Mission 6 is won)

EXT. ROAD
The PLAYER’S POV examines a truck is lying by the side of the road, burning.

The PLAYER’S POV turns and runs into the woods.

CUT TO:
Sequence 7 (Mission 7)

EXT. SOVIET ATOMIC POWER PLANT - DAY
Allied tanks pour through a smashed gate. Allied troops follow, taking out Red guards left and right.

The Allied troops race for the main door and destroy it.

INT. HALLWAY
The Allied troops race down the hall, leveling Reds as they run.

INT.CORE ROOM
The glossy, high-tech control room lays in disarray as technicians push chairs and desks against the door as a barricade.

The impressive reactor core waits in the room’s center.

The Soviet technicians try to hold off the Allies pounding at the door.

INT.SOVIET HQ
Nadia shouts into the phone while Kukov stands over her. PLAYER’S POV watches them from across the table.

NADIA
Shtou! When? (pause) Is the core safe? (pause) You must stand your ground! Stop them!

She hangs up.

NADIA
The Allies attacked the Komensk reactor.

KUKOV
I’m on my way!

NADIA
No. It’s too dangerous.

She stares into the PLAYER’S POV.

NADIA (cont.)
You go. They shut off the coolant systems. The core will go critical soon. Get inside the reactor. Get the coolant towers back on line.

(Mission 7)
Sequence 7A (If Mission 7 is won)

INT. CORE ROOM
Gauges on a panel show the core temperature rising and passing the redline.

An alert screen on the console flashes:
“Critical! Meltdown imminent!”

A digital read-out counts down from 10. Gloved hands from the PLAYER’S POV fly over keyboards. Red flashing lights spin frantically along the nuclear reactor as alarms sound.

Five seconds to meltdown. Four...three... Silence.

The PLAYER’S POV focuses on the countdown -- frozen at 2 seconds.

The alert read-out goes blank, then offers:
“Good day.”

Sequence 7B (If Mission 7 is lost)
INT.

Four...three...two...one...

A nuclear mushroom cloud envelopes the landscape.

Sequence 8 (Mission 8)

EXT. BERLIN - DAY
Tanks pull through the German capitol.

The image slowly becomes black and white and deteriorates in resolution until it becomes:

NEWSREEL FOOTAGE
Troops unload piles of construction equipment, barbed wire, spot lights, and large concrete barriers.

A time-lapse montage highlights their construction efforts.

Civilians gather to watch the construction of the Berlin Wall.

INT. STALIN’S BEDROOM
The newsreel flickers on a TV, the light throwing strange shadows on the luxurious bedroom’s walls. Stalin wears a smoking jacket, laying in a massive bed. Nadia nuzzles against him in a negligee.

They drink champagne and clink their glasses.

NADIA
I promised you Berlin. Did you doubt me?

STALIN
If I did, I would kill you.

NADIA
How better to show my love than to give you a city for your birthday?

STALIN
I can think of a few possibilities.

Nadia moves back into his arms. He leans toward Nadia as the phone rings.

Nadia embraces him as he listens to the phone message.

While he listens, the image again turns black and white and loses resolution, becoming:

C/U - TV MONITOR
Stalin hangs up the phone and rolls toward Nadia.

INT. KUKOV’S OFFICE
The PLAYER’S POV watches the show. The monitor sits in Kukov’s office.

A hand comes in and shuts it off. The PLAYER’S POV turns quickly to see Kukov standing there.

KUKOV
Some things you are not cleared to see. (pause) Come. We’re late for the briefing.

The PLAYER’S POV follows Kukov to the door.

INT. SOVIET HQ
Nadia, Stalin (both wearing wrinkled uniforms) and Gradenko wait. Kukov and PLAYER’S POV enter and take their seats.

STALIN
What is so important that you interrupt a private briefing, Gradenko?

Gradenko smirks, then speaks.

GRADENKO
There is a traitor among us.

Stalin stares him down. Nadia looks unimpressed. Kukov remains completely placid.

GRADENKO (cont.)
Someone leaked critical data about our secret weapon to the Allies. I will know precisely who soon.

Gradenko produces a video tape.

He relishes the tension in the room as he plays the tape.

The TV monitor shows a beach covered with Allied construction vehicles. After a warping effect, the beach stands empty.

STALIN
You waste our time with magic shows!

GRADENKO
This is Zhivago Island.

Stalin motions impatiently for Stalin to continue.

GRADENKO (cont.)
Reconnaissance flights showed Allied construction vehicles landing. Our agents went there, saw them, shot this tape, and then...nothing.

Stalin and Nadia show more interest.

GRADENKO (cont.)
They hadn’t moved. We would have caught them. (deliberate - for emphasis) They disappeared.

NADIA
What’s the island’s status?

STALIN
Show me again!

He rewinds the tape. They view it again.

STALIN (cont.)
Impossible. Whole units...I must know what could do this, Nadia. If it’s a weapon, I must have it.

NADIA
It could prove a formidable companion to our Iron Curtain device.

KUKOV
Iron Curtain?

NADIA
A device that would make tanks and buildings impenetrable. I’ll brief you later. Comrade Gradenko...do we control the island or not?

GRADENKO
The area’s resistance forces continue to offer The Allies support. We must deal with those insurrections while...

STALIN (interrupting)
No excuses, comrade! We need that island. I suggest you spare me the magic tricks to mask your incompetence.

Gradenko prepares to respond, reconsiders and exits after a stiff salute.

Stalin’s voice stops him.

STALIN
No, Gradenko. You stay. Send the captain to handle this.

Gradenko shoots the PLAYER’S POV a resentful glance.

NADIA
You still have submarines on station there, Gradenko?

He nods, fuming. Nadia speaks to the PLAYER’S POV

NADIA
Use our subs to keep more Allied units from landing. We need a base on Zhivago. Get it back for us.

As the PLAYER’S POV stands and exits, Nadia speaks in the near distance.

NADIA (cont.)
Comrade Gradenko, may I have a word?

CUT TO:
(Mission 8)
Sequence 8A (If Mission is won)

EXT. SOVIET BASE
The Soviet flag glides up a flag pole in the base’s center. Two soldiers salute it.

Sequence 7B (If Mission is lost)

EXT. BATTLEFIELD
Allied and native resistance forces execute Soviet soldiers.

CUT TO:
Sequence 9 (Mission 9)

INT. SOVIET HQ
Stalin and Gradenko sit at the conference table, a bottle of vodka between them. Stalin seems calm, but Gradenko shows his nerves.

Nadia and the others remain conspicuously absent.

STALIN
No one must hear of this.

Gradenko nods earnestly. Stalin hands Gradenko a sheet of paper.

STALIN
Do you recognize these names?

Gradenko reads the list.

GRADENKO
Your Generals. But I don’t see my name.

STALIN
Be thankful. I name these men as traitors. They plot to kill me. They think I will destroy Mother Russia.

Gradenko spills his drink.

STALIN
You always stood by me. When I regained the lands stolen by the Europeans and the Chinese, you were there. You fought nobly to make my dreams come true. So I give you this honor.

He makes a signal, and Kane enters. He carries a stack of papers.

He gives them to Stalin, who looks at them briefly before handing them to Gradenko. Kane stands there, emotionless.

Gradenko looks through the stack.

GRADENKO
Death warrants?

STALIN
Sign them.

Gradenko reacts with fear.

STALIN (cont.)
Affirm your loyalty to me by ridding Russia of these enemies.

Gradenko begins to sign.

While he writes, the image turns black and white and loses resolution, becoming:

C/U - TV MONITOR
Stalin’s flit to Kane’s for just a moment.

INT. KUKOV’S OFFICE
Nadia, Kukov and the PLAYER’S POV view this scene.

KUKOV
Stalin said nothing about the truck Gradenko abandoned.

NADIA
Curious. Surely he knew the value of the cargo.

KUKOV
We must get it back. I’m sure you’ll find a suitable way to deal with Comrade Gradenko later.

Nadia nods, fixing Kukov in her gaze. Nadia turns to the PLAYER’S POV.

NADIA (cont.)
A truck and its cargo were abandoned somewhere within this region.

She indicates the map.

NADIA (cont.)
The Allies want the cargo, and it must not fall into their hands. This must not happen. Find the truck...

KUKOV
Destroy it. Everything!

Nadia ignores the interruption.

NADIA
Find the truck and transport it to Komishat Air Base. Stalin wants it there by midnight. Intact.

(MISSION 9)
Sequence 9A (If Mission is won)

EXT. ROAD
The truck speeds down the road. In the distance, Allied tanks pursue it. The shots fall short as the truck zooms to victory.

Go to MISSION 10A, line ???

Sequence 9 B (If Mission is lost)

EXT. ROAD
The truck speeds down the road. In the distance, Allied tanks pursue it. The salvo connects as the truck disintegrates.

Go to MISSION 10 B, line ???

Notes: There's not too much different, iirc, from the segment of the script here and what actually made it in-game. Notably, there's an odd change that I commented on in one of the videos, namely that they say the reactor mission was "too important" for Kukov. I prefer it being too dangerous, and using the Player as a volunteer.

There's a few cut comments from the Chronosphere reveal; I'm fairly certain they don't mention if the island is secure and if there are already subs there.

Next time: Shit gets fucking nuts!
