Part 100: Thief

I'm really afraid of leveling too much. I don't want to look like I'm just grinding my way to victory rather than the using abilities well and showing that levels don't matter that much. I've ended up underprepared for Bariaus Hill and looked dumb anyway, I've gathered.

Don't worry, before the next battle Norma gets a serious upgrade in killocity. Shortly afterwards, Ramza will finish up Thief and he'll get a lot of murderation power. Then the game gets beaten up.

So that this post is worth something:

Job Dissection: Thief

Warriors who can steal anything from anyone. Their skill and boldness are legendary.

code:
EQ: Knife, Hat, Clothes, Accessory
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HPM: 90 | MPM: 50 | SpM: 110 | PAM: 100 | MAM: 60 | Move: 4 | C.Ev: 25%
HPC: 11 | MPC: 16 | SpC: 90 | PAC: 50 | MAC: 50 | Jump: 4 |
Requires level 2 Archer. Level 3 unlocks Lancer. Level 4 is one of the prerequisites for Ninja.

Pros:
+High speed
+Above average PA
+Good movement
+High base evade
+Can steal equipment
+Secret Hunt allows for Poaching nonsense
+Catch allows for infinite numbers of the best weapons
+Move+2 and Jump+2

Cons:
-Below average HP
-Low MP and MA
-No range outside of Steal Heart. None
-Knives are very weak weapons until the last few
-Best weapons are only thrown at levels 90+, so Catch doesn't do much until then. Ninjas are very rare enemies anyway
-Steal abilities have 1 panel range and little vertical tolerance

Thieves steal equipment. Thieves allow poaching. Thieves are bad at fighting due to their low HP and lack of range and weak weapons. Thieves exist to get you better items. Thieves are one of three jobs with 4 move and 4 jump, so they're great for Move-Find Item guys to be, but that exists in the realm of "get you better items."

With some good support and reaction abilities, Thieves are okay at combat, but only do so to get their steal abilities or to unlock Lancer and Ninja, which are excellent jobs. Don't get suckered in by the high speed and PA, Ninjas have both of those but better and have better weapons. Thieves aren't terrible, but don't lose sight of what they're for - getting you really nice items that aren't for sale yet or will never be for sale.

Oh yeah, the best class for stealing? Monk. I am not joking. Martial Arts gives a boost to steal which outdoes any speed the thief might have.
