Part 15: Interlude 4 - Ramza's Inscrutable Job Level Party

Our next goal is some dumb forest famous for ninjas. We can't get to the ninjas yet.

Speaking of ninjas, they're already selling their throwing weapons.

Ramza gets Cheer Up, so the team will become absurdly brave.

Since I'm going to be getting tons of JP, why not hire a new ally? This chick will be the thief I've talked so much about, and her sign was chosen for one particular target who has a whole inventory worth stealing.

I can't tell if he was saying Beef or Reef but Reef Blastbody works somehow so I'm sticking with it.

An elemental bow! Without the 108 gems it still sucks, but it hurts goblins something fierce.

The Javelin is the most basic spear. I decide to get one and end up never using it before getting the 3rd strongest spear in the game.

Ramza needs to get to 400 JP in Archer, to be level 3 and for Concentrate.

No, it's not. Sometimes a Hamaon just ends the game. Get out anyway.

Since Ramza has ended up with lower experience than Rad, I decide it's time to fight battles.

This battle has some human Knights! And they're Gafgarion's level, because its higher.

Remember how I said for every 4 brave gained, the base is increased by 1? Ramza's focus on fisticuffs demands incredible bravery.

Fist finally gets the JP for Throw Item, so I can get him some knight skills.

Shiva's incantation. Shiva's killing things in one hit, so I have to be frugal with its use if I'm wanting JP.

Reef unlocks Knight and Archer, but I need her to get Gained JP UP and Throw Stone before moving on.

Ramza unlocks thief, but that isn't enough. Too bad the enemies die very shortly after.

Concentrate treats the opponents evasion as 0%. The way the description goes, you'd think to use it with things like Steal or Battle Skill because they have low success rates normally, but it doesn't do anything to boost them. Still, punching a guy in the face starts at 100% and gets decreased from there, so Concentrate will make it a 100% sure fist in the face.

Another battle goes by with no significant events.

Propositions! Send some generics on a job for a couple of weeks, and they come back with JP, Gil, and sometimes treasure.

The gil sometimes makes a profit and the treasure is flavorful but not that important. The JP without fighting is the important part.

The description and the results have nothing to do with the name and the story we get. One side is a mining trip. The other side is a ghost story.

Fist doesn't really need JP as much as the girls do. Bulk needs it even less.

I always pick even numbers because it's easier to get right than finding an odd number of steps.

Imagine Ramza walking between the castle and the fort a lot. Having two blue dots together like this means no random encounters to ruin the whole thing.

Bah, more dragons? I don't need more than Dirk Hardpec! OUT! OUT! ALL OF YOU!

Oops, sorry Agrias.

Oh Gafgarion you are so charming.

If I don't, the girls will never come back from the job.

Oh great, it's starting.

The report. Half of Tactic's famous good-bad lines come from these reports.

I've never heard of Gulg Volcano before now.

You'd better do your best, or you don't get buckets of JP!

If they had half-assed it, they wouldn't have been able to excavate it is the message I'm getting here.

"Is that gold?"
"Are those diamonds?"
"Hold on, there's a big one!"

I wasn't kidding about them caring about the big one.

Mme. Eldena said "I had a good feeling!" earlier, which is the message for high bravery. "This job's a gift from God" is the high faith message.

...What.

You found bread.

Inside some ore.

How the fuck did you find baked bread inside a vein of ore inside a haunted volcano.

No kidding! What, did someone put some wheat in a crevice and geology happened so I got bread from some ore?

It'll be the centerpiece of debate for years.

I feel so accomplished.

Eldena gets Preach, the woefully inaccurate faith increasing talk skill. It's the only way to increase faith permanently.

Reef gets Gained JP UP. It won't help with propositions but in the rare instance of her fighting, she'll get done that much faster.

Two of them at Gariland, huh?

More mining! Who would've thunk it?

They find some mythril ore and everyone gets enough JP that I don't care if the gil is mediocre.

Reef has Thief open, but she needs to get to Geomancer for Attack UP as it affects Steal success rates for some reason.

Shit, that's a steep price!

Two Knights and a Mediator. No squires anywhere. I'm guessing a mysterious squire showed up and helped them or something.

Next we get to fight off bandits! How well the dispatched persons fight has little bearing on how well they do propositions, which is good because none of them are good at fighting right now.

In fact, I barely know how propositions work besides that sometimes there's a good class to use. It doesn't matter that much to me because apparently they aren't hard.

Rumor time! I wonder if any juicy tidbits exi-

...Oh. That's what Wiegraf was talking about.

I guess he wasn't making stuff up about Larg and Goltana.

More combat!

Ramza gets concentrate, finally, so he goes on to Thief. There's a reason for that.

Fist gets Speed Break, my favorite break skill.

Reef is also doing thief things to not only get Ramza done faster, but to start building up steal skills. I'll need all 5 equipment stealing abilities eventually.

Ramza picks up Martial Arts, so I can stop caring about his weapon selection. He'll punch faces until the princess is safe!
