Part 17: Zirekile Falls

Gafgarion is a naked summoner with no abilities now. Item doesn't stick.

Awwwww yeah.

Eldena finally has Teleport!

BulkVanderhuge has gotten really far behind and I need room for monsters like Boco so I have to let him go.

But if you kill him, you become him!

Ramza learns how to poach monsters. This won't be relevant until chapter 3.

Fist learns how to hit a weapon so it shatters.

Anyway, on to the next story battle. This will be an uninteresting one where we kill some dumb monsters on our way to the exciting battle at Beltha Garrison, won't it?

Wait, that's the princess and... Delita? And they're surrounded by Hokuten knights!

: Turn the Princess over to us and we'll spare your life!
That's a bald faced lie! You want to kill her! Then after that you'll kill me for knowing the truth!
: Ridiculous! We came to help the Princess! Why would we want to kill her? We can't let Goltana keep her!

Ramza's crew arrives.

Princess Ovelia!
: Agrias!
: Great, here comes a crowd! Gafgarion! Kill them!! And do it now!!

Wait, what?!

: Gafgarion, are you betraying us?
: Betraying you? C'mon, this is business. Our job is to kidnap the Princess 'unharmed'. The job is to kill you all and keep things quiet!
: What are you getting at? This kidnapping's a sham?
: The Princess is in the way! The Princess should be next in line. If she's alive there'll be nothing but trouble!

If the Princess's kidnapped and killed by Goltana, they'll be rid of her and his rivals. I'm sure that's how Prince Larg wrote the scenario. No, Dycedarg probably wrote it. Don't you agree, Ramza?
: Right, Ramza. Let's get them all!
: Another helpless sacrifice...

Despite the situation quickly spiraling out of hand, Ramza knows that he can't let Ovelia suffer over the machinations of others.

You should really listen to this one too.

Luckily, Delita has learned some awesome tricks over the past year.

Imagine meeting you here! Are your brothers still running your life?
: Who knows? They never tell me anything? But uh, Delita, are you party to their plot?
Don't be foolish! I'm here to save the Princess to free her from those who are exploiting her!
: Don't lie to me! You were hired too, weren't you? You were hired to kidnap her for money! Don't play dumb!!
No, I'm not like you. It's not for the money!
: Then, who's getting in my way? A kid who heard the plan, and decided to save her for justice!? Who hired you? Who told you about the plan? Talk!
None of your business!

Gafgarog has really betrayed us. He doesn't change between set-up and now, so he's an enemy naked summoner with no abilities.

If you leave him with equipment, you get it all back once the battle's over. You can still steal it in the middle of battle and get it back, which is a dandy way of replicating his nice armor and shield, but it wasn't worth my time.

If you can get Gaffy to Ninja, using spillover JP masterfully, he will throw things at you. Get him to high enough levels (upper 90's) and he'll throw awesome stuff like Excaliburs, Masamunes, and Ragnaroks at you, as what enemy ninjas throw is determined by level. Equip the Thief's Catch ability and you keep the things he's throwing, making it entirely possible to have an Excalibur or 6 in chapter 2. It's entirely not worth the time.

Delita is very well armed and armored, so he won't have many problems with his share of knights.

He's got his own variant of Holy Knight that keeps Wish for whatever reason.

Ovelia may be fairly low level, but she's quite well equipped.

...

...I want that robe. It gives 2 MA.

She has MBarrier, which she casts on herself. It'll keep her very safe. A loss in a "Save [character]!" mission happens when the character gets Dead, so Reraise won't help, but the other four will immensely.

Her otherspell is named DEATHSPELL 2

It's a mistranslation. It should be Dispell 2.

Ramza punches knights out. Gafgarion is so weak and helpless I just kinda hinge my bets on an AoE spell hitting him. The enemy knights are weak, as the battle kinda assumes Gafgarion will still be a well-equipped Dark Knight. As he's a naked summoner, it's pretty easy.

: Human, just like you!

Ovelia targets herself with her MBarrier. This mission isn't too rough but every bit of regain and protect helps.

: I don't think so!
: Are you sure of what you're doing? The Princess may be adopted but she's still royalty.
: I'm quite sure! Even Princesses can die for getting in the way! That's what 'royal blood' is about!
: Are you mocking the princess?
: Get in the way, get killed. It's the same for commoners! The only difference is people like you pledging blind loyalty! Unless you make it to the top you're only gonna be used so you're better off dead!
: Then, I'll save her!!

There's another conversation but I kill Gaffy before he can get to it. Naked summoners have problems with living.

: Did you know about this!? Why, such a dirty trick!?
: Dirty!? There is no 'dirty' when it comes to money. I'm a mercenary. I have to finish the jobs I take. That's called being a pro!
: Why didn't you tell me? Why?
: If I'd told you, would you have stopped me? If I don't do this, someone else will! Get it? People die all the time without you knowing about it! That's reality! You think you can stop something you know nothing about?
: But... but does that make it right?
: No 'buts'! You're just a child who doesn't want to face reality! If you don't like it, try living without depending on someone else for a change! But don't come complaining to me if you can't!

So Gaffy gets zapped for his troubles.

He didn't plan for Ramza somehow knowing about the betrayal. He teleports away.

Norma can technically move anywhere on the map. However, for every panel out of her natural move range, it has a 10% chance of failure. She has three move, so going five panels would have an 80% success rate. Teleport ignores height, obstacles, terrain, and enemies. I think it's the best movement ability.

She teleports a mild distance and targets a guy who has supreme difficulty believing in a higher power with Shiva.

Ovelia's under MBarrier, and Gaffy's gone, so it's just cleaning up knights now.

Bonk!

Split Punch is stronger than Stasis Sword, but its secondary effect isn't as good as Stop or instant Death. It's just Death Sentence. It can't target panels too far above or below the user unlike Stasis Sword.

Ramza needs to hit really high brave if I'm to utterly humiliate his two duels.

With that Shiva, the battle is over!

After the fight, Ramza and Delita, having not seen each other in a year, begin to talk.

: Delita, what're you scheming?
: Scheming? Don't be foolish. I'm telling the truth. Think about it. Where would you take her after making an enemy of Hokuten? Crack Hokuten troops will come here looking for you any time now. Just where the hell do you plan on escaping to?
: W, well I...
: Think carefully. The Princess knows this was Prince Larg's plan. The royal family is not on your side. So what about Goltana? No, he'd execute you just to clear himself.

: What do you mean?
: I can't tell you... I'll leave the princess with you a little longer.

: Teta saved me...

This line sparked a bit of debate. Some people said it was moral support, that Delita wouldn't die by the schemes of others like she did. Others thought that her body literally protected him from the explosions, as though a Dead Sister gives you 13 more HP. The "watched over me" line in WotL puts it firmly under the first category.

: Thank you Delita.
: See you again, Ramza.

Delita leaves, going on the way to Goltana's duchy. The animated cutscene ends here in WotL, reinforcing the notion that Delita is the focus of animated cutscenes.

: But are you sure you want to make Hokuten an enemy?
: Don't worry. I've already decided. The question is, now what should we do? Like Delita said, nobody will help us...
: We can ask Cardinal Draclau for help...... Glabados church has jurisdiction over Lionel. They might be able to help.
: Hokuten has to be careful what they do in Lionel... Let's go. It's the only place for us.

The road to Lionel won't be that simple, however...
