Part 135: The Epic of Gilgaluf - Chapter 8

Been a while since I've been so productive! Let's see how long it lasts.

The Epic of Gilgaluf - Chapter 8

First thing on today's agenda: the Underground Waterway.

Did you know you could just walk straight through that forest and the game would actually put you in this area? I didn't (largely because I never thought to try until just now). I doubt it'll let you progress until you actually go through the Waterway, though, so back I go. (Also, Sandcrawlers are a lot easier to kill with Aqua Breath available.)

: ...I'm not that scary, am I?
: Depends on your opinion of old men.

Oddly, this bit's player-controlled, which means you can STILL wander off despite how blatantly obvious what you're meant to be doing is.

Once again: Par for the course.

: The all-solving hammer strikes again!

Vs. Tyrannosaur.
This video gives a pretty good idea of how brutal this fight can get if you don't just Phoenix Down the thing. (Also shown: Me trying to branch out a bit with Enkidu's command. I'll do more experimenting later, I expect.) And yes, it WAS countering with ???.
: OWWW! This thing hits HARD!
: It hits harder the more we damage it, I think.

Boss Deaths: 0
Total Boss Deaths: 4
Weapons Used On Boss: Sleep Blade (apparently the randomizer's decided that I'll be using whichever weapon I got most recently on each boss)
Other Deaths: 6

Anyway, with that dealt with, it's time to head to the Moogle Village.

: ...Soooo, did you see where it went?
: Nope. Sorry, boss.

: Ah-HAH! Found it!

: GREEEEETIIIIINGS!!!
: ...God dammit, Galuf...

: How 'bout a little restraint this time?
: I'm not into bondage.
:

: Seriously, the only thing stopping this guy from running away is the fact that we've met before!
: ...We have?
: Don't tell me you've already forgotten...

And Gilgaluf becomes just a little bit less predictable for bosses.

: Sure, why not?
: Stop molesting my leg, shorty.

New spell. Am I gonna use it? Signs're pointing to "no."

Y'know, Galuf's this guy's boss. Why does he charge you?

I hope I never have to use this. (Also, while I'm in the area I take the opportunity to sell a few extra weapons off.)

After stocking up on items, it's Plot time. (Note to self: Try Drink at some point.)
: Blah blah blah, wind drake, blah blah blah, dragon grass, blah blah blah, Drakenvale.
: You get all that?
: The relevant parts, at least.

: Outta the way.
: But-
: I said move!

You are still not a boss, stop trying to intimidate me.

Might as well steal this from him, though. I mean, I can, so why not?

...I just realized I forgot to get the sword out of the moat. Oh, well, it'll still be there when I get back from Drakenvale.

The monsters seem to have caught up to my level. Too bad for them. (I also catch one of the frogs while I'm in the area. Death Claw makes it easy.)

Quelb stuff. (Incidentally, all you need to do is take one step forward, then try to leave. Speedrunners should keep this in mind.)

Kelger gets Goblin Punched like everything else. Too bad he's apparently Level 32, which makes the results predictable.
: Oops.

Ah, Requiem, how I have missed you.

I want my equipment to be up to date, so I head to the Gil Cave (and exploit quicksaves, obviously) for some funds. (I plan to challenge the Gil Turtle at the end of World 2, and I'll give you a video to prove it, but I'm nowhere near ready yet.)

Now that I have money to spend, Enkidu gets a Twist Headband and Power Sash, and I add a Kodachi, a Killer Bow, and 5 Poison Rods to the randomizer (replacing the Kunai and the Dark Bow).

Might as well trade for this, too, even if I'm pretty much guaranteed to never use the thing.

Full heal plus free Potions? Too bad it's in limited supply (and that it's regular Potions instead of the far-more-useful Hi-Potions).

To Drakenvale!

Gilgaluf isn't a cat person, apparently.

Highly useful !Mix ingredients. I should farm a few before I leave, assuming I don't get enough from normal drops.

For once I actually expect to get some use out of this. It's not like I use much White Magic anyway...

Well, new katana, at least. Ashura's still on the list until I get back to town, though.

Why the hell not? Not like Galuf's got anything better to do. Enkidu, of course, Sings the dragons into submission.

Hiya Rocky. I think I'll actually use this guy later (specifically, when I pick a fight with Gil Turtle, though it may not be exclusive to that fight).

Vs. Dragon Pod (and Dragon Flowers).
I got stunlocked in my first attempt, so I cheesed it in retaliation.
: Hmm... This thing looks wide open, aside from those annoying flowers.
: Claw time!

Boss Deaths: 1 (quite embarrassing)
Total Boss Deaths: 5
Weapons Used On Boss: Ogre Killer, Frost Rod
Other Deaths: 6
Deaths By Stunlock: 4 counting Iron Claw (screw you too. That's MY thing! Not quite sure why Romeo's Ballad wouldn't work, though...)

Well, on my way out now. Turns out I got more Fangs than I expected just from encounters on my way through (as in, no intentional grinding). Don't think I'll be needing any more (especially in light of the ones I haven't gotten yet and the fact that there're MORE enemies that can drop them...).

Well, that's quite enough for one update, I say.

Current weapon list: Knife, Main Gauche, Dancing Dagger, Kodachi, Ancient Sword, Sleep Blade, Spear, Javelin, Ogre Killer, Death Sickle, Gaia Hammer, Ashura, Wind Slash, Flame Rod, Frost Rod, Thunder Rod, Poison Rod, Healing Staff, Killer Bow, Lamia's Harp, Blitz Whip, Diamond Bell, Moonring Blade
Current weapon total: 23

Next time: ...I forget, was it Xezat's Fleet? Think it was. There's definitely gonna be a bit of looting (and maybe a bit of Plot) first, though.
