Part 188: Krile's Marceyventure- Episode 5: It's just like looking into a mirror, isn't it Gilgamesh?

Hello, Everyone! It's been nearly a year since my last update, part of which had to do with real world concerns, like undertaking a project to play all the FF games again for a podcast. Fortunately, I got back to FF5, and decided to finish the Marcey Run

And I had a succesful one woman show of Les Mis on Broadway. Then I starred in the new Mad Max film (I did all of Tom's stunts) and I starred in the new Star Wars. That Daisy Ridley was a gem, but she definitely needed me to teach her how to swing a lightsaber.

Not a single word of that happened.

Next you'll tell them I don't have a Netflix Original series coming out.

ANYWAYS...

Last we left Marcey in the video game where she belongs, she and the several unconscious people with her got blown to the ass end of nowhere, landing entirely unharmed. We're not going to save the world from Exdeath sitting on our asses, so let's get moving.

What? Naw, I can just call Krile-Bot on my radio, and she'll come pick us up!
...
Or I could if the damn thing didn't break in the fall.

Like I said, let's get moving.

Oh, hey, civilization, ish. Let's take a look!

And yet you have an inn and fully stocked weapon and armor shops? For who, the schoolmarm? Not buying it lady.

Speaking of the Inn, I decide to do some dancing and get some Piano practice in.Priorities!

I'm coming for you, Mozart!

Moogles? They can contact the moogle back at the castle for me to get word to Krile-bot!

Castle, you say? I suppose I could make a detour...

And here's the castle. Inside we find Sheild Dragons, and Galuf finds a trove of old weapons

gramps!

Knock that off.

NEVER!

I also fought a shield dragon while I was here, just to prove I could.

Eventually Marcey stumbles across a forest.

With a Moogle.

He promptly falls in a hole and gets attacked by a Dead Dinosaur.

Marcey sets it on fire. Not counting this as a boss fight. Too simple, and no attack pattern to copy. We are still Gilgamesh.

The moogle asks Marcey (and unconscious company)to follow it.

This shot is here to show how close to death I came during the simple trek over to the moogle village. These guys are vicious if you don’t keep up with healing.

Where Marcey meets the dude she saved in the other forest, and instead of just asking the Moogle to speak with the one at the castle, Marcey decides to try on a random outfit she finds.

Look, there are protocols to these sort of things. Ufh, this reeks. I know this ain't disneyworld, but couldn't they at least wash the thing? God I hope no one's yiffed in this shit.

OH GOD, ABORT! ABORT! ABORT!

Fortunately, Marcey manages to avoid the Amorous Mog and get the message to Krile's moogle, who tells Krile-bot

And Krile-bot can use the apparent only other Wind Drake on the planet to go pick up Marcey and Co.

When she arrives, the moogle rushes to give Marcey a big ole hug

Hey, stop, you'll blow my cover, dude!

Back at the castle, we get an update on the fight against Exdeath and look for something to do. This is one small problem with FF5. Sometimes, the game just sort of plops you down and you have to blunder around into the next plot breadcrumb.

While we wander around, we learn some things about "Krile", who Marcey most definitely is not.

He is a person you!... no, Don't explode in rage. Don't explode in rage...

D'aww, I'm not that special. I mean, she sure sounds like a good kid, yep.

Up on the roof, we find plot.

Seriously? Wind Drakes are made of paper, it seems. Anyways, we need to find Dragon Grass.

Good suggestion, Galuf, with a name like Drakenvale, there's bound to be dragon stuff there!

This, on the other hand, does not follow. Wolves don't even make a noise remotely like Quelb. You better not be fucking with me Galuf.

You're welcome, Robo-me!

Okay, Oddly expository dude. This is actually a sidequest hint, but I have no idea how you'd tie this text on this world to the desert in the third world later.

Alright, let's go get some Dragon Grass!

Can't take two steps...

Motherfucker killed me. This Vampire attack dealt three times my Max HP.
Deaths + 1

We get to Quelb. It is barely a screen to the north of Galuf’s castle.

Everything is locked.

Except this house.

Except it's locked too.
Fuck it. I'm out.

The fuck?

Wolf dude wants a fight with Marcey for being an intruder. This is stupid for reasons we shall see in a moment.

I win handily.

Later Marcey pulls out her backstory to explain how she won.

Galuf and Kelger apparently ALSO read Marcey's backstory.

Man, did I have to improvise like crazy!

Also, Galuf and Kelger know each other from way back. So Kelger knew Marcey was here with Galuf and just wanted to pick a fight to pick a fight. Stupid.

I'm not sure if it's better or worse if he's actually dead.

But yeah, we got out of there real quicklike and made it to Drakenvale.

I found some swag armor...

No fooling folks, that Bone Mail is pretty much on the entire rest of this run. Enemies that use Vampire are now helping me, and I rarely, if ever, use standard healing. It's great!

Marcey made a new friend, but took offense to his puns.

They were just low hanging fruit, man.

And we found the Dragon Grass.

It was not happy to see us

Video will go here later

After deliberation, I did not count this as a formal boss to change Marcey’s active skills, since again, all it does is summon, and all its summons do are status effects, which don't really affect the next boss. So we are still rolling as Gilgamesh 2. Getting a lot of mileage out of Air spells this run.

After collecting the dragon Grass and heading back to the castle, I find that Ghido has apparently left a Message on Krile-bot.

I added that feature when we got home. Added a deadman switch to the remote in case of emergencies. If the radio dies, she’ll come find me automatically.

And Lenna does something stupid to save a Wind Drake. Again.

At this point I decided to grind a little bit for levels and cash in the basement and...

I stopped here because I wanted to get my last AP for mime fighting Gilgamesh. I fuck that up, but never mind that now. After some busywork, I head to Ghido Island, because that’s where we need to go according to the plot, though it’s not that clear why.

The Dirty Pair principle takes effect and the Island is destroyed just as we arrive, but we are unharmed.

So I decide to join a Naval war already in progress. The dude with the horns is Xezat, another old friend of Galuf and another king. Kelgar set his sights low with a single village of werewolves. Something tells me Dorgann had a castle he gave up, too.

Here's my skill setup from before the fight. I have the dancing dagger equipped and the bone mail.

I ran into one of the onscreen encounters before Gilgy, and so fought him as a full fledged mime. This does change my strategy SLIGHTLY.
See, going into this run, I had a couple quick rules. One- Until I hit 999AP as a mime, I can only copy the previous boss fight. Now, I can copy my current boss fight, too. This usually doesn’t come up, as I usually stick to beating bosses as the last one I fought, but there are exceptions and I’ll note them when they appear. There are a couple other quick rules, but we'll cover them when I get there.

Now we fight like Gilgamesh! And Enkidu!

Video to go here

This fight wasn't hard, but it was long. When the video goes up, I might edit it out to a more watchable length. Amusing highlights of my Aeroga and Vampire- off, Enkidu started helping me along. See, he's programmed to use Vampire when not at full health, along with Aera, White Wind, and Missile.
When you use Vampire on an undead creature or someone with the Undead mail on, it heals them instead of hurting (An undead using it doesn't give a shit). Enkidu was own-goaling himself whenever he used it, topping off my health and dealing himself the difference.
I did eat a single death here, down to a bad combo attack between Enkidu and Gilgamesh, but the RNG favored me the second go round.

Anyways!

Submarine!

Explosions!

Code Name: Metal Gear?!

Reflect Ring!

Time here is for the ability to cast Haste on myself, which is my current logical concession to 'I am pretending to be two people' and because I need the speed to survive.

Boss Video goes here
Deaths to Atomos: 5

Atomos here hits hard, he hits fast, and he hits randomly. My only hope is to hit him just as hard and fast and hope that every single Vampire hits its target, because I can usually survive a single double comet, but sure as fuck I can't survive two rounds of it. The final fight was short, brutish and fast, and I was doing anything I could to futz with the RNG in my favor.

But we stand victorious and Xezat of the Dawn Warriors can do his part of the plan!

What? Dude! We're the ones who need to fight him, I guess, but you can still HELP!

So we jump off a tower, and the forcefield to Exdeath's palace is down. I love how the transparency effect is just a flicker, so it’s a big single color blob in screenshots. Now then, with the barrier down we’d logically go there to fight Exdeath, right? Wrong. We have a detour we need to make that we’re only learning about RIGHT NOW. Incidentally, I keep wanting to type Golbez every time I write Exdeath. I really like FF4, guys.

Meanwhile, Galuf is momentarily beside himself at the death of his old friend.
My run gets stranger from here, and it doesn't fix itself when I finally remove Galuf from the party. It sorta gets worse.

We get a key branch from a turtle so we can go to a forest to destroy Exdeath at the source?

I have my priorities all out of order...

And now Marcey is in a burning forest. That Exdeath set on fire with his mind apparently.

At least I have my priorities ACTUALLY in order here.

This shield saves my bacon so much you guys. So much.

A random moogle pops to Marcey's rescue amidst the flames!

Here's Marcey as Atomos. Time is for Comet and some haste. Double cast is for doublecasting comet. The coral ring is to heal off of the crystals. That's a non issue, though.

Anti-climactic fight goes here

Yeah, these guys went down really hard.

Shit I did a bad thing.

I did a super bad thing.

Screw this disguise, it's time for Krile to fight!

Oh yeah, I'm a badass...

I am a dumbass, I am such a dumbass...

Oh god, Grandpa's a badass...

I'll fight with you Grandpa!

Awesome yet hilarious fight goes here

So... what happens when you're scripted to only have Galuf in your party and have two people with the right chara ID? Krile fights the good fight, goes to 0 and keeps fighting. Galuf is a lump on the floor because auto-dead. Still, a good showing. If I only get one video fight up, it will be this one, I promise.
I guess fighting against the crystal was too much for Galuf though.

He's not gonna make it.

Krile's taking it... uh... well?

Krile, don't do anything crazy.

This... wasn't the sort of crazy I was expecting. This is a different breed of crazy. Tree magic. Huh. This would be the game for it, though, given Exdeath is also a tree.

Heh. It begins.

You don't get to complain about crazy, narrator. Also, I had Krile-Bot assume the Marcey persona. I'm done with it. I will stand proud as Krile henceforth!

Still, I wonder what that ring thing meant by Grandpa's abilities?

Well, uh... Well damn. Maybe I should have let Gramps fight more often.

Here’s the second rule I followed. Once Galuf died, Marcey becomes Krile, and Krile becomes the Omni Mime, mastering all classes and absorbing their passive stat boosts and abilities that aren’t “Equip X” I can now dual wield, but can’t equip axes or ribbons without using a slot.

This doesn’t bug me as much as it might.

Anyways, Krile’s Marceyventure is hereby concluded! Stay tuned next time for the sequel movie, Krile the Omnimime: fighting for truth, justice, and the planet R-ian way!
