Part 192: Living Off the Land Part 2: Use the Damn Potion

So the ship graveyard.

I have no idea why I insisted on grabbing this, it's only good for the white mage, a class I can't really use, but I got it. I guess I could use it on a Freelancer, it does do full damage from the back row, but I don't see the need to.

Fucking cheapskate skeletons.

Other than the Flail, the only other treasures are more consumables that are boring to talk about but nonetheless I need.

While the enemies aren't too bad, but the damage does pile up. And with Vampire being my only non-consumable healing source, I kind of just have to let the damage build up, or use potions.

Wait, or do I? Is that weird Calcutta thing or whatever it's called also undead?

Faris learns this the hard way. Yes, yes it is. Oops.

I could use a Phoenix Down on her, but... I get a free heal midway through the dungeon anyway. I just run from battles until I get there.

She just came back from the dead dude leave her alone. Oh this is the point every LPer breathes a sigh of relief now they don't have to keep pretending that Faris is a dude.

Oh a map neat.

More importantly FREE STUFF! I don't really have any antidotes, so this is greatly appreciated.

Urgh this scene takes forever let's go!

Siren

Screw you too Siren.

Oh, you might notice that I switched Galuf over to Monk. I figured that would make this fight easier.

It would have, if she didn't sleep him almost immediately, and he didn't stay asleep for the whole fight.

To be honest, the entire first attempt at this fight was a succession of bad luck and bad decisions. Mostly bad decisions.

The problem with this fight is the undead form, as you'd expect. She does a ton of damage, I don't have a lot of HP to weather it, and I can't use Vampire to heal. I decided that I could move both of the girls to the back row until Siren turned living again, and just have Bear guard. Unfortunately, she tagged Lenna before she could move back.

And then Lenna dies to a light tap due to me being stingy with potions. (I was kind of hoping she'd live long enough for Siren to switch, and get her HP back.) I did use a phoenix down here, but it didn't help.

The fight also lasted long enough for Siren to go undead a second time. This is not good for my resources.

Also doesn't help that when she finally woke up Galuf, she brought him to 1 HP and poisoned him at the same time. And then one-hit killed Faris in the next round. (I didn't want to bother moving her again. It turns out I needed to.) And then I had the new revived Lenna use Vampire on her undead form, killing herself.

I didn't win.

Second time was the charm, though. I got a little luckier since she decided to incapacitate a far less useful character. Honestly, !Guard didn't serve me that well and I should have just brought in two monks. Hell, four monks would have ended this fight pretty quick. Oh well.

This time the fight only lasted long enough to get one undead form. She did manage to get Bear before he could Guard. Well, hell, let's use a damn phoenix down and potion and try to keep a party member alive for once.

I hate you.

But, otherwise, once she turned living again this battle ended quickly.

At least she drops something pretty awesome. Only a knight can wear it at the moment, though. Still, it's +4 to defense where everyone else is struggling to get over 2 defense. Bear will appreciate it.

Unfortunately, Bear is still dead. I could use a phoenix down, but why bother? Why not just rest up in the next town?

Oh, right. It costs money.

You see, when you spend money in inns that's how they get your information and that's how they get you.

There's only three things for us to get in Carwen, another antidote, some money that will do nothing but look pretty in the menu screen, and-

A rod! As tempting as it might be to think, this won't be turning into a rod break-apalooza, since we're going to be limited on rods. I'm definitely not using it on the next boss; that's utterly over-kill. I'd prefer to not have to use rod-breakage to get past a boss, but if I have to I will.

After playing the piano and talking to the people that progress the story, we're done with Carwen forever. North Mountain!

Enemies get a bit nastier on the mountain. Fortunately, more of them have things to steal. It's mostly just potions, I could get some Silver Specs but I never managed to, but that's fine for now.

You'd think with his fancy new armor Bear would be doing much better than everyone else, but not really. I'm forced to use a phoenix down and a potion here. Honestly, I've got enough potions to deal with this, but let's just do what I should have done a long time ago.

Can't ever go wrong with more Blue Mages. Optimize gave him the Frost Rod instead of the Broadsword he was wielding. Eh, allows him to stay in the back row. Why not?

Yay. There's also a Phoenix Down on the mountain, and that's it for treasure. Lame.

No I will not be sacrificing an ether here to learn Flash. Plenty of other places to learn it.

But yeah, three blue mages and a thief stealing potions means that keeping my HP up is a breeze. I forgo using a tent here.

Magissa

Another pretty easy fight. I keep the three blue mages and sub in monk for the thief. First phase of the fight went smoothly; the only remotely scary thing she can do is drain, and she didn't.

Forza is a lot scarier, but he can't quite one hit kill anyone, so once again Vampire is keeping me alive here.

Although once again Bear has a brush with death. He just needs to live dangerously.

Bear gets !Check, Galuf gets the far nicer !Focus. I may want Bear to get that ability too.

I guess if I had run in with a team of four monks I probably could have killed Magissa before she summoned Forza. But then I wouldn't have gotten a Power Drink, and that would have been.... a loss?

And no Lenna I'm not wasting an antidote on you, you're just gonna get poisoned two seconds later.
