Part 53: Find the King.

Chapter 4: Find the King.

He was pretty eager to play again after getting picked up from daycare and could only be diverted so much, so we set our sights on the Water Crystal.

”Go in the hole in the mountain.”
I try to go back to North Mountain, thinking he means that but nope. He doesn’t like that. He’s a bit fussy, and he might be half-remembering some other dungeon. It isn’t any of the available caves. I try some other places.

”No. Not that hole."

“Should we look at the map?”
“Yeah.”
He really likes the map. On my fiesta run he’d ask to see it now and then. He loves maps.

I cut out a lot of wandering around trying to appease him. Eventually I convince him we can go to Tycoon, though he really wants to go to the Badguy Castle (Exdeath’s Meat Fort). We land and…

“I want change his clothes! I want to make him Blue!”
“Oh. Sure.” Blue mage, pretty good, maybe I should go see about the frog so-

”No! Make him BLUE!

Oh, right. Black Mages ARE blue colored.

He ends up swapping both blue mages to black again. I sub them both to !White1

After the Chancellor and his guards do their jump of surprise, my son keeps asking me to fall down the hole again. I think he perceived their coming down off their leap as akin to falling down a pit trap. Then he wants to look for traps, which are apparently treasure chests. He might be semi-remembering me narrating trapped chests in the late game?

”Jump down the hole.”

“He didn’t want to get out of bed and fell out!”
”He didn’t want to get up?

”What’s that?” He was pointing at the screen. It took me a few seconds to figure out what he meant.
“That’s a fireplace. And those are torches.”
”He like… fireplace?”
“It’s nice and warm!”

“This is the king’s room.”
”I want to see the king.”
“We’re looking for the king actually. He’s Lenna and Faris’ daddy.”
”Find the king.”
“We’re looking!”

I haven’t mentioned it but he asks if any gargoyle statues are bad guys ever since the tablet dungeon guardians started popping up. I had to do a lot of trying to get to these gargoyles to appease him that they couldn’t be reached. He was getting antsy to leave. He wanted to go fight stuff but didn’t want to let me go to Walse. Until…

”I want to go in there.”
“The tower?”
”I want to go in that tower.”

“They won’t let us through. We’ll have to ask the king of Walse to let us in.”
”Find the king. Go to the king.

I do some quick shopping.

”King is in there?”
“Uh-huh.”

“That’s the king! We’ll ask him if he will let us in the tower. He doesn’t want to though.”
”He’s the king?”

”What’s happenin!?!?”

“Another meteor is falling down from the sky!” I make the appropriate crash-y noises.

”What he looking at? He looking out the window?”
“He’s looking at the tower! Lets go!”
”Okay!”

He keeps asking what is going on throughout the trip. I explain, of course.
When we get in the tower he observes that ”they all fall down” and asks if ”Monsters in there? I confirm these observations, telling him a big bad guy came through here.

”Why water in here?”
“It is the tower of water!”
”It’s… wet?”
“Sure is.”

I want that magician go down there!”
Lenna is moved to the bottom of the formation. (Bartz is two handing now)

”King fall down?
“The big bad guy knocked him over! He’s hurt.”
”Pick him up.” (aww. )
“Oh, his guys will pick him up and take him home. He’ll be in bed.”
”Who his guys?”
“The blue guys.

I go down the hole a few times to amuse him. He also asks why I went into the water. (“To swim”)

He wants to go into the middle hole here, but I tell him I can’t get across the water, there isn’t a ladder down to swim. He… seems to buy it.

”WHOA.”

”We gonna fight him?”
“Here he comes!”

Garula (The Elephant Badguy). I was… not well prepared here. My black mages only have !white1 so no Protect (Which would have made this really easy) and for some reason I left Learning on Lenna instead of !Focus. Kids don’t leave a lot of time for fiddling with abilities. They demand action.

Still, was able to lay out the crits and cast cure. His damage was a problem for my black mages who he kept focus on, bizarrely. My son was very preoccupied with just how big this bad guy was.

”Magician fall down?”
“Yeah.”
”Get him back up.” (I did)

We win.

”It broke!”
“Yeah. Now we get more jobs, er, costumes.”
”Guy fall down?”
“He did.”

“What’s happenin?”.jpg

He doesn’t ask if Syldra is a bad guy this time. He does comment that ‘everyone on/in’, though. He seems to like to clarify that whenever sprites clown car into a seemingly too-small sprite.

Anyway, the moment of glory! The Water Crystal Jobs!
“This magician can make things faster and slower. This one is a red magician. This is a summoner he ca-“
He points. ”I want him be serker.” Berserker Bartz was his favorite sprite. I sort of expected this, on some level. He even knows the job name because of it.

“Well how about Galuf we-“ ”I want him be berserker too.”
“Well with Faris this magician can make magic swords ”Be berserker.”
“The time magician has a pointy hat and a summoner can call birds!-“ ”I want all be serkers!

”I got all them berserkers?
“Yes son.”
“You got them all.”
