Front Mission: Gun Hazard

by Opendork

Part 21

Today's bit looks t be long, so let's just speed through this are, shall we?

This area is a forced scrolling minefield. The last minefield was forced scrolling, too. I guess when Albert sees a lot of mines he's like "Oh you think I'm going to take it slow now? No way bitch I'm running right on through!"

That cannon's somewhere inside this base.

I thought you said it wasn't complete yet?

That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, Albert.

At the time I was captured, sure. That may no longer be the case.

We've got to hurry! They might already be ready to fire!

Everybody's counting on us. Let's go!

Makes me feel a little bad about going to Mount Howler and messing around there. Oh, well.

Short answer to this question: pick a ventilation shaft and hope it's the right one.

Except it only actually let's you enter this one, so...

This is one huge vent. It also winds around a lot.

Thank you, game, for making me risk everything to obtain... a weapon I already had.

I've located the particle cannon! Looks like it's nearly complete...

Damn it! Keep him away from the cannon! Begin charging!

Are they going to... Brenda! Pull out! They're aiming for the tadpole!

Whoops.

Brenda! Everything all right?

BRENDA!

You can tell he really cares about the rest of his little crew.

You...! You bastards!

Defend that cannon to the death!

So I blew it up. It took ample time and ammo, but I did it. Mission Accomplished, I guess.

Albert! Come in!

You're alive?

No, Albert. Her ghost is radioing you.

Yeah... amazingly enough.. The ship's heavily damaged, though. What's the situation?

The cannon's history. I'm pulling out.

Understood.

Alright! Now Brenda will pick him up and everything will-

There oughta be an exit somewhere. Check around your vicinity.

What? No! Not more of this level!

What kind of an exit was that? That wasn't an exit! That was the opposite of an exit!

What have you done to my cannon?

He blew it up. Did the thing that took your eye grab some of your brain, too?

Eh?

We were on the cusp of destroying the Qasala Dam... Victory was nearly ours! But you...

Do you know what kind of suffering you'd be unleashing? How many lives you'd destroy? Even if that was enough to end this war...

Who said we wanted to END it?

Safad, I guess. Common sense, too.

Destroying that dam would've set the whole region ablaze!

WHAT?

Ah, the triumphant return of "WHAT?".

Enough talk! Now you pay for your meddling, with your life!

Of all the bosses in Al Hari, I find it hilarious that the last one is also the easiest. This slug-centaur thing is only vulnerable in it's upper body. However, it doesn't have much health and it only has two attacks. One is a regular shot, and the other is a set of three missiles. One at the top, middle and, bottom. It doesn't have a lot of health, so use that vernier and hover while shooting. Keep in mind that you're moving during this fight, so you're stuck in dash mode. This is true even if you don't have a dash.

Our plans, undone by one filthy merc... GRAAAAH!

Either the merc is awesome, or everyone else is a complete moron. Maybe both.

I'm not totally sure how Albert got out of there, but who cares?

Hardly the most exciting level up. So hey, before next mission I'll switch into some other subweapons and show what they look like, at least.

Clark actually leveled up twice. This is the second one.

How's it look?

Well... I avoided the brunt of the beam, but the circuitry's toast. It'll take time to fix.

Albert! Come in, please!

Ah! It's a ghost!

That'll be commander Safad.

I just received the news. Excellent work!

News traveled fucking fast around here.

Unfortunately, our carrier took a direct hit in the battle. I don't think it'll last much longer...

In that case... return to ARS headquarters for the time being. We owe you a considerable debt.

Thanks.

OK! Time to head back.

Ugh, I thought I was gonna be airsick!

The stabilizer's broken, sir. It's not going to ground us, but it'll make life rather uncomfortable.

That's it! We're going to have to stop for repairs.

We don't have the time.

Make the time! We're not going anywhere without a carrier!

I hate each and every one of your identical selves.

That should be the end of that affair.

Yes. With Fort Navaru gone, the Zohar Alliance will be more reluctant to engage us in the future. This may be our chance to open peace negotiations...

Albert: Stopping decade-long wars with the power of guns.

Sounds like a fine idea to me.

Both sides of this conflict have lost too much already. Fighting may not be over tomorrow, but every day we can shave off this war is a victory in itself. Thank you.

I'm glad we were able to help.

I have a gift for you. In appreciation of all you've done...

That's all right. We were just doing our jobs.

Albert, you fool! Free stuff! Take it!

Nonsense! I think you'll like it. Come with me.

I wonder what he's got in mind?

I....I....

This is...

Correct! This battleship is my gift to you.

Wow! This makes the old Tadpole look downright shabby!

It's... he's giving us a...

Commander... W-we can't accept THIS!

Yes you can! Thank him profusely and then take it!

Don't be ridiculous! With this war nearly over, we have no further use for it.

Thanks, commander... Unfortunately, we've got to get going.

I look forward to hearing from you.

This is awesome. Let's go blow some shit up with the battleship we now have. Oh yes.

Luven...?

He apparently jumped onto it while it was in the air like the Tyrant from Code: Veronica.

Where did YOU come from?

Got room for one more?

We're leaving now.

I know. See, I've been thinking... well, thinking about tagging along with you guys.

Think you can just come and go when you feel like it?

Hey, Albert... Something about this war strike you as a little odd?

Like the fact that it was so easy to win?

Now that you mention it...

What do you mean?

Think about it! The Alliance just doesn't have the means to develop advanced, large-scale weaponry like that particle cannon! Somebody had to have been helping them.

Well, when you put it that way...

There's gotta be more to this. I want to investigate.

Investigate, huh.

So I figured, why not go with you? You're mercs. You guys get around.

He just wants us to buy him better Wanzers.

Hmm.

Well?

All right. Don't expect a free ride, though. You're fighting with us.

No, he isn't.

Not a problem at all... Especially with company as charming as miss Lockheart.

Oh, brother.

Well, after that, we're free to leave. What sort of adventures could await us next, I wonder? Well, you'll find out next time!
