Front Mission: Gun Hazard

by Opendork

Part 37

Continuing the fight no matter what! It's me with the next bit!

This new carrier is so awesome; it can fly sideways!

P.S: To those who have played the game: yes, I know I'm forgetting something. I'll get it next time.

Our client's name is Jose Abavu... He runs the town as well as a resort...

What, is Emil so starved for attention that he's stealing Brenda's shitty job now?

Hoo! I bet he's just rolling in it.

Sounds promising, eh ma'am?

"Promising"?

Whaddya mean, man?

Well, ah... I was under the impression you preferred the high-paying jobs, ma'am.

You don't know a damn thing! You think I'm doing this for the money?

You will find that if I continuously exit and re-enter this area...

ERGO! Uh... well. I guess someone was too lazy to write new dialogue for the later game.

You HAVE changed.

Don't YOU get started! I've got you to thank for this!

Hey-hey! Guys! Let's land already!

...says the guy who brought it up in the first place.

Oh, banter is fun.

This is the mayor's residence.

Man, this joint's huge! He's even got his own airfield!

Well, let's see what he wants.

I'm Hose Abavu. Mayor of Machu Picchu.

I'm going to stop and talk about how fucked up Machu Picchu is when placed in the context of the rest of this game. Machu Picchu is a real city, though not one where people live today. This is weird compared to other areas of the game for two reasons. 1) Most of the other locations have made-up names, and 2) The area names usually refer to entire countries instead of cities. Interestingly enough, there's at least one level in this area that also has it's name taken from a real place near the actual Machu Picchu. As far as I know, none of the other areas are named for real places.

Also, searching for "Cenktrich" in Google returns my video of the boss as the second result. First is this.

We heard about the guerilla attacks.

It's not a pleasant situation. I didn't want to involve mercenaries, but now they're targeting innocent civilians...

What can we do to help?

Imagine everything is shaking here. It doesn't translate well to screenshots.

They've got guts! I'll give them that!

Please! Do something!

Hey Square! I already did this back in Cenktrich. You just coloured the enemies blue. I'm not falling for that.

...Reinforcements?

No.

Looks like I've got TWO Wanzers to upgrade at the next shop.

I like how they go back to the carrier before asking if he's okay.

I believe so.

At least there were no casualties, sir.

This can't be allowed to continue. Albert! Help us put a stop to this.

We're on it. Let's go!

Yeah, sure. I guess.

Real City.

We believe they're using this village as one of their hideouts.

Hold it! If you know where they are, why haven't you attacked them yourself?

We don't have the forces to match them in a head-to-head fight. That's why we requested you.

Looks like Albert's reputation of taking out entire armies by himself has gotten around.

Are you sure your information is accurate?

Of course! What's more, we know they are currently in the process of planning another strike on the city.

Don't worry... we'll take care of this!

Now he's stealing a line that should, by all rights, be Albert's.

bombs?

No need. All we've got to do is take out their leader. The rest'll take care of itself.

Albert? Do you...

What, Brenda?

Oh, nothing. Never mind.

JRPG Romance subplot rapidly approaching critical mass.

Before blue it was green, wasn't it? I'm thinking that the next enemies will be violet. It follows the pattern. After that... I don't know. Loop around back to red?

That one's blue AND green. I don't know the significance of that.

So you're the guerilla leader...

Afraid not, punchy! But you can bet I'm MORE than happy to crush you on her behalf!

Just like you've been "crushing" civilians?

You outta your mind, buttercup? I don't take kindly to insults! I'll see to it that you never open your fool mouth again!

I'm afraid you'll need a better gimmick Wanzer than THAT to stand a chance. Generally the less sense it makes the better, here.

I mean, is that all? You jump and shoot and are slightly larger than normal? Good for you, start running from every fight and you'll have ONE more feature than Genoce.

That's not very good.

Two of these kids seem to be related to Pigpen.

...What's that kid doing there? Wait!

C'mon, buttercup. Don't tell me you're giving up already?

Albert! Watch out for those kids!

Damn it! I've got to do something...

Yeah that's cool keep shooting at my shield see if I care.

Outta the way, Anita! I got him right where I want him!

See those kids? Hit one of them, and we're no better than he is. We're here to protect these people, remember? Attention, all units! We're pulling out!

U-um. Yeah. Roger!

From this reaction, I imagine that he's the only unit left and it's sort of awkward because she's calling him on his radio even though he's right there.

You know, for one of Jose's men, you're not that bad of a guy. ...Thank you.

For... killing a bunch of her men or something. I don't even know anymore.

......

What's wrong? Let's go after them!

Not yet. I get the feeling we're not seeing the full picture here.

Not bad, considering the low-grade enemies I was dealing with.

How fares it?

I'm afraid they've managed to escape for the time being.

Better luck next time, eh?

Wait! What are the guerillas after? What's their agenda?

Do they need one?

The just woke up one morning and decided to form a militia and try to take down the government. Just... on a whim.

Well...

Listen! All that matters to me is that my people are in danger. Question me if you want, but I'll be damned if I'm going to watch them be killed by these... terrorists!

But they... Never mind. I understand.

And then I went and trained until I leveled up.

Awesome.
