Level 6 - 343 Guilty Spark
Creep through a swamp to meet the only enemy the Covenant fear.
Last time we looked over the various vehicles that were used during the battle for Halo. Now we will focus our attention on the firearms that were used by UNSC personnel and Master Chief when fighting against the Covenant in control of the construct.

The M6 PDWS or M6D Magnum Sidearm is part of the Misriah Armory's M6 Sidearm series and was put into service somewhere around 2524 and issued to UNSC Navy personnel and members of the SPARTAN-II program. It is a very powerful weapon when compared to other M6 series weapons.
The weapon is a semi-automatic, recoil-operated, magazine-fed, magnum caliber handgun. It is has however the capability for continuous fire if the trigger is held down, but this leads to a noticeable decrease in accuracy. Its body is made from a titanium allow and has a polymer grip to make it comfortable in the user's hands.
The weapon is striker-fired, short recoil weapon and uses the M225 SAP-HE round in a 12 round magazine. Its rate of fire is decent with 3.5 rounds per second or 210 rounds per minute and has an effective accuracy of up to 90 to 95 meters. Its total range is 122.5 meters and posses a very small shot spread at close and medium ranges. It is also equipped with a KFA-2 2x optical smart-linked scope to increase accuracy by connecting directly into the HUD of the user, making the weapon quite potent in the hands of a skilled user.
The reason behind the M6Ds power is the M255 SAP-HE .50 caliber ammunition. The rounds consist of a metal coating of copper or coppernickel around the perimeter of the projectile that is also hardened and filled with additional primer. When striking a target the projectile will deform and explode shortly after penetration. If the round strikes a hard object such as body armor, the metal coating will deform which allows the hardened projectile to continue through the target. The deformation of the projectile is to avoid over-penetration of a target and avoid causing injury to people behind the actual target.
SAP-HE ammunition is very effective against shielding system as they were designed to explode and damage the shield system. Its explosive nature also works well against lightly armored vehicles.

The MA5B ICWS Assault rifle is a bullpup fully automatic rifle and is the standard weapon of the UNSC Marine Corps. The weapon has a compass-like ring and a digital readout that shows the current amount of ammunition in the weapons magazine.
The weapon uses the 7.62mm x 51 Armor Piercing Full Metal Jacketed Rounds, which are designed to pierce human-made armor. This unfortunately means that it performs poorly against Covenant shields. The rounds can however penetrate the armor used by Grunts and Jackals and can bring down unshielded Elites very quickly.
The weapon itself is very customizable and its configuration can be changed very quickly. Items such as silencers, scopes and grenade launchers can be mounted on the weapon. In addition, other types of ammunition can be used, such as Shredder Rounds, which are very effective against unprotected flesh.
The weapon has however, one major drawback, and that is during continuous fire the weapon becomes increasingly inaccurate. This means that in order to get a tight grouping of shots the user must fire the weapon in short bursts instead of full-automatic fire. However, when fired in full automatic the weapon is an excellent weapon to suppress large groups of enemies.

The M90 Shotgun packs extreme stopping power at close range and is the UNSC main close combat weapon. It usually sees deployment in urban conditions or in defensive actions in warships due to the tight spaces in these environments and thusly fully utilizes the weapons lethality.
The M90 has a 12 shell magazine and uses the Soelkraft 8 gauge magnum shotgun shell, and fires 15 spreading pellets per close-range shot. The combined force of each pellet is capable of instantly killing all unarmed enemies. However, the lack of range for the weapon forces the user into dangerous situations to utilize it properly. The slow reloading time may also be a drawback as each shell has to loaded into the gun, one-by-one. The process does however give the user the advantage to fire whenever he needs to and then continue reloading and be able to reload after just firing one or two shots.

The 99C-S2 is UNSC's primary sniper rifle and its one of the most accurate and powerful weapons in their arsenal. The weapon is modular in design and the scope, stock, barrel and firing mechanism can be changed depend on the mission profile.
The weapon is designed for medium to long range usage and is equipped with an electronic scope that is capable of 2x and 8x zoom. It is capable of penetrating Covenant shields with a single shot and a headshot is lethal against more or less everything.
The main disadvantage of the weapon is its limited use in close quarters as the shots need to be very precise to kill, and the at extreme ranges the shot must be lead to be able to strike its target. However, a skilled user of this weapon is to be feared, as he will be capable of hitting targets at extreme ranges.
The weapons major strength is the ammunitions. The 99C-S2 fires the 14.5x11 APFSDS round. These rounds are very large in both lengths and with and are made out of titanium or steel case surrounding a core of super dense tungsten. This casing is thrown off during the projectiles flight, leaving the tungsten core exposed. The rounds are extremely accurate, due to the fin-stabilization of the design. It has a hit ration of 97.3%, which is currently unprecedented by any other UNSC weapon currently used. The ammunitions real purpose is for anti-material to destroy unexploded ordnance and not against other combatants. However, its efficiency against Covenant shields and armor have made it useful on the battlefield.

The M19 Rocket Launcher, otherwise known as the SPNKr or Jackhammer is a heavy ordnance weapon used by the UNSC to take out heavy targets such as vehicles or fortifications. It fires High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) rockets and has an x2 scope.
The weapon consists of two rotating disposable barrels and the weapon unit. This allows the operator to fire two consecutive shots and when the weapon is reloaded, the spent barrels are discarded and two new one are inserted into the weapon unit.
The weapons splash damage means that its effective against larger groups of enemies and the high rate of fire ensures that the user can fire a secondary shot before the enemy has time to recover.
However, as it is mainly an anti-vehicle weapon it performs poorly against infantry in comparison to grenades. It also posses a slow reloading rate. The operator must also be wary of the range of the target, if fired too close the splash damage of the weapon may harm or kill the operator. The rockets are also very slow which if warned early may allow the enemy to dodge or away from the rockets projected trajectory.

The M9 HE-DP is an UNSC-issued fragmentation grenade used against both infantry and vehicles. The grenade has a hard metal casing made out of steel or tungsten that, when detonated will spread a large amount of shrapnel in a large radius aside from the explosion provided by the high-explosive core.
The grenades are very efficient at clearing out large groups of enemies and rooms inside buildings. The M9 is also very efficient at disrupting or damaging vehicles with the exception of tanks.
Unlike the Covenant plasma grenade it does not stick onto its target and must therefore be used efficiently to ensure maximum enemy casualties.
