Part 71: Ep. 48: Constructive Interference
Kgummy posted:
And it'll turn out the reason the crane is missing parts is because someone else salvaged them to fix their car. Because someone else salvaged parts from that car for something else.
Property laws for machinery parts/salvage are a little different in the simsverse.
That makes far, far too much sense.

When last we left our, uh, 'stalwart' hero, he was preparing to remove vital parts from the engines of every car parked along Main Street.

And also from Patrick's bulldozer, which seems only fair. Still, there's only one lootable vehicle in the construction site--why is that?--so out to the street Sam goes.

I wonder if this is Evelyn's car? It's parked right outside her townhouse. If it will help thwart Morcucorp, she'll probably be all for it. Sam disassembles this car without compunction.

This one probably belongs to Luis. Sam also disassembles this car without compunction. He's... kind of low on compunction in general.

And this one is probably Gino's. Sam feels no remorse. He's down by City Hall, eyeing the excavator, when his phone rings.

... oh. Oh my.

Sam puts his phone away without a word and salvages a gear from the excavator.

A quick trip down the street to loot this random white van and we have enough parts! Sam makes a note of it.

Sam heads back towards the construction site, stopping along the way to update Shirley on the roof-animal situation.

Back at the construction site:

These puzzles are getting more complicated.

As soon as Sam slots the last part in place, the crane kicks into gear--

--and moves a long chunk of pipe into a convenient place.

Sam climbs down the endless ladder and re-enters the construction site, going all the way to the very back.

Sam built these crate piles earlier, even though there was no reason for him to do so. Now, of course, they let us access this concrete walkway.

Which lets us balance across the new pipe! In the middle of crossing, Sam's phone rings again, nearly startling him into falling off. As happens. Once he reaches the far side, he fishes out his phone and checks his text messages. It's from Travis.

Well. Hm. On the one hand, laser-light displays are cool. On the other hand...

... Sam's a jerk.

Putting his phone away, Sam climbs the stairs to this platform. See that bucket in the corner? If we go look in it:

We find a figurine of Travis for the trophy case! I choose to believe that this is the universe rewarding us for letting Travis sic rabid badgers on a bunch of promgoers.

More balance beams. As you might expect, the crosswinds up here are vicious. Three balance beams later Sam arrives at the final platform, and...

An unusual bit of scruple from our special agent! Sam puts away his notebook and the final letter and carefully picks his way back down to ground level. Next step: getting the hell out of this crazy construction site, pausing only to shout a greeting at Patrick in passing.

Sam barely hears the end of that because he is leaving. No sooner has he set foot on Main Street than Travis texts him again.

everybody is terrible
Sam runs back to the park, where Poppy waits.

Poppy beams happily.

Ominous musical sting! No, really, the game plays an ominous musical sting.

Poppy cheers up.

I concur: YAY! For helping Poppy retrieve her mail, we get new dispatch missions (of course), a trophy-sized version of the town-center statue, and a new agent outfit.

Sam and Buddy hop on the train. No sooner do we step off the train at HQ than we find a giant SimEx box containing the necessary formalwear: a suit and gown, a monocle, and a cowhide top hat. Hells yes! Agent Walker is on top of things. Let's go look at our loots.
Well, okay, let's get past Yuki, then look at our loots.

Yuki lunges at Sam in a generally adorable manner.

Sam dodges around Yuki and slams into HQ, where she usually won't follow. To the Derobenator!

A three-piece suit with a badge, just like Agent Walker's!

Our sweet new blue suit, monocle, and cow-themed top hat.

Upstairs, the trophy case!

I can't figure out what the Travis trophy is reading, and I'm not sure I want to know.
