Part 15: About the Chevrolet Corvette C6, About the Porsche 911 Turbo S

About the Chevrolet Corvette C6

The Chevrolet Corvette is a car that has been produced over six generations, and the C6 is the latest model. Produced from 2005 to the present, the C6 is the most powerful production Corvette to date. Available in both coupe and convertible models, the in-game C6 has a 6-liter V8 engine with 400 hp, although its fuel efficiency is laughably low. Newer C6 models have been produced, the Z06, the ZR1, and the Grand Sport, all of which are even more powerful than the "vanilla" version of the car and fitted with even bigger engines. A modified version of the C6 has also been used in motor sports, and has performed well in the Le Mans races.

In-game, Sergeant Cross drives a very stylized Corvette C6, and he's worth 500,000 bounty if you manage to take him out. The police on Heat Level 5 also use all-white Corvette C6es.

Triple A Says...

Aside from being the classic "virility enhancement" of the balding American man, it's actually a pretty decent sports car. While it still uses a leaf spring in the 21st century, it can actually handle it due to its persistent fight against model bloat and having clever people design the suspension. Personally, I find its looks rather vulgar but I suspect that is the point.

About the Porsche 911 Turbo S

The Porsche 911 Turbo S is actually not really a "911". Recall that there are two 911s: the "classic" version that looks relatively pointy and has an egg-like interior, and a "modern" version that has been redesigned many times and has become more and more round with time. In 2004, Porsche redesigned the "modern" 911 slightly and released an even newer model, but the internal designation for this redesign was the 997.

The 997 cars are the most commercially successful 911 cars, having sold over 100,000 units between 2005 and 2007. The market price of this car is around $160,000, but it has the stats to make up for it with a 523 hp, 3.8 liter motor with a top speed of 196 mph! Porsche boasts it can hit 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, and Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame has said that, first, the 911 cars are pretty much the fastest things around given their size, and second, that the 997 will "make love to your fingertips and stir your soul". Pretty high praise from a guy who detracts from Porsche vehicles! Unlike regular 997's, the Turbo S itself has an overboost function that allows it to increase torque for ten seconds over a narrow RPM range. This basically means it goes faster, thus Turbo!

Triple A Says...

So, how do you make a 911 better? You give it a TURBO. While not as lethal as earlier 911's, they still offer the usual plurality of speed in a less demanding package.
