Part 8

"It's unfortunate you were unable to detain Edgar. We could not confirm it was Edgar who exterminated our search team. It appears Edgar and Freia are traveling together. We can't just let Edgar move about freely."

"Capturing him is the main goal, but you might not be able to do this ... There are no issues with killing the enemy"

Why does it have to be someone who knows Edgar well? Because it has to be the protagonist, that's why.

I'm not sure what this 'reflex attack' is.

"We have high expectations of you."

"Throw away any personal feelings and proceed with the mission."

"but all trust will not be regained until Edgar is captured."

I guess Spokesman means that everyone suspects that we're in league with Edgar, even though no one has said such.

"memories. Currently it's being analyzed--we hope it provides some insight."

We'll see.

"A report says the advance party is eagerly awaiting our arrival."

"He just doesn't seem normal, that's the kind of vibe I get."

"I can't find the right words to describe it. I feel like something is changing."

"Headquarters. You don't have to restart from the very beginning."

Ai is useless.

"Poor thing, do you want this rare skill?"

"Well I have some left over that I guess I could give you. But this won't be good for you ..."

We don't actually get anything from Know.

"There's no real benefit to having credits, but if you go to another city they might come in handy, although I'm not sure if another city exists."

"I was a fan of that guy I had no first-hand knowledge of."

Hey, Sammah isn't sitting down anymore.

"If I don't blast someone today, I won't be able to sleep."

You might think he's offering a mission, but he's not.

"That Edgar! What the hell was he thinking! Darn it!"

They were really going for that T rating.

"Weren't you friends? It's such a shock that Freia was so diabolical. Wow, rotten to the core. I can't believe it. Regardless, you should meet up with dear Edgar and talk things over. If you don't you'll regret it--from someone who's experienced it."

"Thinking of it makes me feel the void."

We've been using a skill called Heat from the Void, but I'm not sure what 'The Void' exactly is.

"... useless isn't it?"

"If you're bored with your old skills, add some new skills to freshen it up. ... Buy an arsenal why don't ya?"

Now we can buy four Junk instead of two. Too bad this is around the time where I stop buying Junk in favor of individual skills.

"So ... skill. Go carry ... all."

"That Edgar, can't imagine he's normal."

Spokesman said that we've lost trust with everybody, but they all seem content with confiding in us, so I say he's lying.

"Ualalalallaaaaaa ... Heeehehehe!! Ouch! Ouchy! Uahooo!"

"... what a shame."

"Your arsenal--show me what it can do."

"such attacks should showcase it as reference for others."

Compressor will become important soon.

"I hope you can do this again."

No and thank you.

You heard it here first: it's a good idea to attack that giant tree in Palace.

Hell yeah, this is getting hot.

Watch Red Rose of Passion

"He was unabashedly happy, it just so happened to be his birthday."

Hmm.

"Our scouts have reported that Anthro also makes scary noises."

Unsearched territory?

Hey, a new map! We've got one mission available in each area, and I think you know where we're going first.

"you insane. It's risky, but we need to find out all we can about this area. Investigate and report back."

I suppose Frighten's either a tag-team skill (set up an enemy so your friend can knock them down) or you use it to interrupt a more powerful attack, assuming it works like that.

Agent Rush posted:

[Frighten is] generally better as a set-up to a partner's attack because it doesn't knock the target down. Most attacks come out fast enough that you couldn't interrupt them without serious anticipation skills or a lucky guess. That said, it's pretty useless in story mode.

IGotMine posted:

It is also, as far as I know, the only targeted skill that hits instantaneously. It seems useless, but to be honest if the cost was 2 or 3 instead of 4 it would be quite broken in multiplayer. It's a really obnoxious gimmick to come up against if you use your mobility to any significant degree, since getting hit by Frighten cancels your momentum and causes you to drop like a damn rock if you're in the air. It also has some nasty synergy with slow-moving projectiles that are difficult to connect with normally, since you can try to pre-empt their block or dodge by slapping them with a Frighten right before the projectile would connect. Combined with the lack of a need for line of sight and you can do hit-and-run attacks using skills that are too slow for people to (at least initially) take as a serious threat despite what may be high damage potential (or obnoxious fucking side-effects). Likewise, a lot of [Rain] skills take long enough that you can Frighten after using them to stop your opponent from dodging.

Of course, Laser or Throwing Stone can be used to the same effect for cheaper (or free) but those can be blocked/dodged, need a clear arc to the target, and have tighter timing. If you're the kind of person that plays with skills like Jump, Dash, or Levitate then the jerk-off running Frighten is probably going to ruin your day.

Still, Agent Rush is right in saying that it's way less useful in single player. You can still use it to interrupt and snag extra hits, but the NPCs don't usually get too creative with traversing the map so its main use as a counter is kind of lost.

Edit: It's been a long time since I played so this may not all be entirely accurate, but this is how I recall it being used. I don't think I really ran it myself except in an arsenal or two designed to be pointedly annoying.
