Robin Hood

Part 5

When last we left our heroes, Robin found his ancestral home in ruins, his father murdered and strung up, and the rubble of his home inhabited by five thousand wolves and pests, as well as a blind old man with a medallion and a leg of meat.

...Never thought I'd say that sentence.

See this path? It's on the southwestern side of the castle, and it's the only way to leave the stage. Nevermind that there's absolutely no obstacles on any border of the map, you simply won't warp to the next area unless you fit yourself in this one magic hedge and walk straight through.

Out here we find, surprise surprise, a trackless forest passage. Two clearings full of guards later...

Wow, Peter sure was loaded.

Ooh, horses! I like horses.

Hey look, a hired goon. Think he'll let us in?

- ...Do you have a brother in Jerusalem?

- I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about.

You know what this guard needs?

A supreme display of bling-bling.

Aww yeah.

Inside we find, umm, a wizard eating dinner on the floor?

Very rarely, people won't have faces to go with their dialogue. This person vanishes promptly after saying their fill.

Dubois Manor is larger than Locksley Castle, but not by much. It's got a couple of doors in it; one leads to a bedroom with a potion, the other is locked and there is seemingly no way to open it. It's also enemy-free so you can explore for a bit.

Mm, rug meat.

Long story short, Marian's room is in the northeast corner of the manor. Why does she look like a Barbie doll in a jogging suit?

On the floor is Marian's corsage a suit of chainmail. It's slightly better than leather armor, and weighs 40 units. A bit on the heavy side, but not a problem for Robin.

- Hello Marian

- What is going on here Marian? My father has been killed... people are starving...

- With King Richard away fighting the Crusades, the Sheriff has taken over! The Sheriff is bound to look for you here. Head for Sherwood Forest. Rumors say many men live there, hiding from the Sheriff.

- Robin! Guards have stormed the castle!

- Guy and his men! Take my saddle! Pretend to steal two horses and flee or they'll kill us all!

We'll let Duncan lug that saddle around. And yes, I fully intend to have him go through the game wielding a leg of meat.

It's your birthday!

Sadly, there's enemies now. And, the guards now carry bows too, so you have to be careful when fighting them. Oddly enough, an arrow to the face doesn't hurt too much, maybe around 10 to 20 damage, but it can add up quickly.

What's awesome though is that you can sometimes get the guards to shoot each other, and you still get the EXP for it!

86% of a horse! Let's ride!

- We can lose them in the forest... if we make it there!

And so we come to the fourth and final new game mode: Escape!

The goal is simple: Hold right to move to the right and push A to jump over obstacles in the path.

If the Sheriff's men catch up to Robin or he doesn't leap over an obstacle, then it's curtains for our hero.

Apparently this slightly lighter brown forest is the real Sherwood Forest. Have we ever even left tree cover since coming back to England? How can they tell the difference?

Oh well. See you next time, in the Sherwooder Forest!
