Introduction

On December 30th, 2007 I began my NetHack LP. It went fairly well. I had some interesting conditions (my favorite was "read your scroll of amnesia"). I ascended at one point, so people got their money's worth.

NetHack is a wildly popular free software game. You can download the code and modify it. Several people have, which has led to..

NETHACK VARIANTS

The first variant I'll be playing is Slash'EM. Slash'EM (Super Lotsa Added Stuff Hack - Extended Magic) has a reputation of being too over-the-top. New additions include toilets and firearms. In NetHack. There are tons of other changes that we will cover. I don't have much experience with the game, since it has never really interested me. It's supposedly much more difficult than vanilla NetHack. Slash'EM has been around for quite a while. Its predecessor, Slash, was originally a variant of NetHack 3.1.3, released in 1993. So when I say it's been around forever I do mean it.

You can play Slash'EM online (much like you can play NetHack online at nethack.alt.org). Point your telnet client (I recommend PuTTY for Windows) at slashem.crash-override.net. That is where I'm playing.

I'll also be playing other variants. They will be introduced after I die horribly in Slash'EM. The old NetHack crew is still around, but there are some new friends too.
