Part 15: Tunisian Mirage

– Tunisian Mirage

Thorn heads for Tunisia. Although the coordinates were off the coast of Tunisia, Holt’s description was of a remote wilderness. Crawling with enemies. Not real sure why the special ops team from the last mission can’t handle this one as well.

Yeah, Thorn is not in the ocean.

Possible explanations:

1. Procat runs GoogleMaps.
2. Ocean levels have dropped significantly since the mid 1990s.
3. I transposed some numbers.
4. Activision don’t give a fuck.

Regardless, the game autosaves when Thorn arrives in Tunisia. This is the first time it’s done this, so something must be up.

OK Thorn, find that mole and I’ll be back to pick you up. Rescue One out.

***Sound of Explosion***

Taking fire! Mayday, mayday! This is Rescue, LZ just lit up!

Missile free, missile free, oh man!

Thorn, this is Rescue, you copy? Someone just locked onto me with a missile, cannot maintain orbit on station. Unless you take care of those bogies yourself, you’ll be walking home. I am retreating, Rescue out.

I’ll note here that the voice acting for the chopper pilot is a train-wreck. Apparently they ran out of room in the budget. It sounds like they just put a mic in front of some cubicle drone.

Hello Thorn, you’re taking it well. Expected to nab Mirage and the mole in one fell swoop, eh? It appears the Agency’s communications are not so secure. I’d say you’ve rather fallen into my trap.

So here’s the setup. Blake has a ring of shooters. Passing through the middle zones is liable to get Thorn killed. We need to take out all the shooters before we can confront Blake.

When Thorn has killed all the enemies, Blake appears in the center of the map.

Toss the weapon, Thorn.

Thorn drops the weapon.

Now the goggles.

I’m eminently impressed. Those were some of my best hitters.

Unfortunately, you’ll never get your chance to stop the assassination. The game is over, and you lose. My contract with the Mafia is fulfilled.

CLICK

Bloody hell.

***Blake pulls out a knife***

***Thorn retrieves his gun***

Wait, Thorn. You need me. Look, you can kill me but that won’t get you what you need. Harmonica is moving in to kill your president, and as you may know, he doesn’t miss. If you kill me, you won’t catch him. And then we both lose.

Take my computer.

I’ve been running Procat with it since I killed Melnachov. You leave me here alone, and I’ll send you a code that’ll help you stop Harmonica. Heck, I’ll even throw in a mole! Think about it, you’d be a hero and everyone’ll think I’m dead! This may be hard to swallow, but it’s your only hope!

We could kill Blake, but it wouldn’t change much. We’d still loot his computer.

Thorn, nice work with Blake. Don’t worry, we’ll take care of him. But I need you in Moscow now to stop Harmonica. You’ve got the best chance of making a positive ID. I’ve got a chopper headed your way; it’ll take you to Home Plate where a Hornet will bring you to Moscow. I’ll meet you there. President Brooks and I are aboard Air Force One now. We’ll be landing in a couple of hours.

Roger Thorn, ETA Eisenhower 10 minutes.

Something else is about to happen?

Let’s snoop around on Blake’s computer while we wait.

Whoever you are, you’re about to be disappointed. Self-destruct sequence initiated. Goodbye.

**Female Voice counts down from 30***

Blake is a treacherous snake. We’ll download as much as we can.

At about 35%, we cancel the download and toss the computer out of the chopper. Countdown is at about 10.

What the hell was that?

There’s a lot of decoding to do on Procat’s files.

Logistical stuff, but not too exciting. Then we come to this one.

It hasn’t been sent yet.

I noticed you found a message from Blake to our target, the mole. It seems Procat can be run from anywhere in the world, by anyone who’s got his computer. Maybe you should run Procat for a while.

Don’t mind if we do. Only one number on this list actually connects, the rest give error messages. Hopefully we can round up the mole at this location.

358 (90) 1111 2222 (Finland)

No more time to waste, it’s off to Moscow!

This set of Lat/Long coordinates seems to make sense. This is in Crimea, on the Black Sea.
