Part 86: Operation Chocolate Spain: Spanish Turn 1

gohuskies posted:

Take the offensive strategically and the defense tactically. You want to dictate the overall terms of battle, but when it comes to shooting, you want your guys shooting from cover and his guys moving. I don't know if you can make it but rushing the VPs then hunkering down would take the strategic initiative but it also means that his guys are the ones moving in the open and our guys are the ones staying in cover shooting back, in a tactically superior position.

Looks like someone's been reading up on their Rommel, which is appropriate given that this fight takes place in North Africa. In any case, MT seems to be playing right into this line of thinking - at least for the time being.

Operation Chocolate Spain: Spanish Turn 1

The Spanish erupt forward with what is (at least, up front) an armoured and mechanised charge. There are Greyhounds, Halftracks and Pattons everywhere. As a matter of fact, our two forces are pretty damn similar.

Two of his M8 Greyhounds are reduced to slag quickly, but the Greyhounds are not our concern.

However, two of his Pattons start rumbling forward and start taking fire. One of them almost got taken out this turn (that would have been quite the early victory).

They are well within the range of our AMX-13s at this point, and the Greyhounds are perfectly capable of drawing fire.

On a strategic basis, this is going quite well for us. Our force is advancing through dense terrain, but the Spanish are operating out in the open. We have an incredible opportunity to seize the initiative in this battle.
