Chapter 12 – Attack on Maerhen's hideout



Welcome back everyone. Today we go after Maerhen hideout in order to finally finish off that slippery eel. On the way I had to go through two encounters so here are the levels resulting from that.



















Some decent levels mixed with some bad ones (Alicia )



Time to start todays chapter in earnest.



One strange looking fellow is admit the pirates and there seems to be something happening.





: Hey, Renee, is this kid your brother?

: Attrom!? What are you doing here?

: I've been looking for you, ever since you disappeared... But I've found you at last... Thank goodness...

: I don't know what the hell you're going on about, but I ain't givin' up my prize so easy. Now screw off, kid!

: No! I'm not leaving without her!

: Oh, come on, kid. You think you stand a chance against us?

: Attrom, no! You'll be killed!

: I'll take my sister back, or die trying!

: Hmph, fine! Hey, boys, take care of this runt. I'm bringin' the lady back to the hideout.

: Aye, boss...

: Stop! Let go of my sister!

: Oh... Attrom...!



Let’s see what Katri and Holmes have to add to the situation.





: Easier said than done, you know?

: I'm sorry...

: Well, all right. It's time we kicked... Um, the guy with the ridiculous name...

: Maerhen of the Isla pirates.

: Right. It's time we kicked his ass, anyway. Katri, you stay put. We're more than a match for him.



Let’s have a look at Attrom and the more interesting enemies on the map.



Attrom is basically Xeno 2.0. He starts with about the same stats as Xeno although he is 2 levels higher. He comes with fewer skills and better growths. That’s about all there is to say about him. Perfectably usuable.





As for enemies we have 2 people with Killer Axes and Hammers.



And a special asshole with a Shield Sword. The Shield sword randomly raises Defence by 1 – 20 meaning most attacks have a decent chance of not working making him a pain. Luckily I brought Alicia to blow him up if he decides to make trouble.



Anyhow, before we take our first turn just let me say that I dislike this kind of maps. There isn’t anything hard about it from the units and all but these kind of bum rush maps basically rely on having decent high def units or RNG luck. Once you’re past a turn or so you basically won and just have to play mop up. Bonus points for having to protect Attrom’s ass.





Samson and Holmes start killing the Vanguard so we can extract Attrom from the Danger Zone.



Katri summons some zombies to help distracting some enemies and soak up hits.



We survived the retaliation and Holmes starts picking off one of the Killer Axe dudes.





Lionel gets an ok level after finishing off the weakened pirate.



Alicia kills the Shield Sword Asshole and gets another underwhelming level. At least defence is kinda nice.



This one goes onto the pile but may find some use if we need to hold a chokepoint. Although I don’t like to rely on luck.



Samson kills someone in a counter attack and gets a good level from it. Skill and Speed are nice on an axe unit.



Shigen takes a lethal blow and revives with his special sword.



At the end of turn 2 we’re mostly done with the map altthough something is happening inside the hideout.





: Hehehe... I have business with that priestess. What say you and I join forces?

: You want to catch the priestess, huh? Hmph... All right, I guess we can help each other out.





Doruk can become a problem and an annoyance if you aren’t fast in this map as he will spam skeletons and be an annoying physic asshole. Other than that he isn’t anything special.



After our turn, Doruk is the only one remaining meaning he gets off exactly a single summon charge, because we will be taking care of him in the next turn.



Shigen gets attacked by a Skeleton and receives an underwhelming level for it.





Meanwhile Holmes shoots Doruk full of holes.





Attrom gets the honor of finishing this map’s boss he also gets another bad level





Alicia and Arkis finish off the last two skeletons with Arkis getting a bad level as well.



After everything died, Holmes captures the hideout to finish the map.





: Of course. They won't be able to chase us if we run away on our ship. Renee! You're comin' with us!

: Attrom...





: My name is Katri. I was once an acolyte in Marl, but now I'm traveling with a group of adventurers. What's your name?

: I'm Attrom. I grew up in Brahd, but I don't know where I was born. I'm an orphan, and I don't have any memory of my childhood...

: I see... You're just like me.

: Renee... She picked me up off of the street and raised me. I've been looking up to her as a sister ever since. But one month ago, she left to search for a girl who had left home. She didn't return, so I set out to look for her. And just when I found her... Damn!

: Don't worry, Attrom. I'm sure your sister is...

: What do you know! Ever since I left Brahd, I've been looking all over for her. And I found her... I finally found her, but... I couldn't save her, because I was too weak...!

: Attrom...

: My sister is more dear to me than my own life. She was kind and caring, and always protected me. But... I'm too weak to protect her in return...

: Hey, quit your sniffling if you're a man. Anyway, I got the picture. You should come with us. I'll get your sister back for you.

: Holmes! You're serious?

: Why are you the one who's happy? Anyway, like I said before, we can't let... Um, the guy with the stupid-ass name...

: ...Maerhen, Holmes.

: Right, Maerhen. We can't let him run loose any longer!







: We can't do squat about it here 'cause we don't have a ship! Our ship is docked back in Saura.

: Are we going back to Saura?

: Yup. We'll find him in the Senay Sea and hunt him down on the water! We're the best at fighting out at sea!


That’s it for this chapter. Next time we might finally get our hands on Maerhen.

Heaven Saint (lvl 15), Blazing Wind (Fighter lvl 26)

Attrom is almost a copy of Xeno. He has slightly better grwoths in the areas where it counts but trades them for less skills and two levels given that his starting stats are identical (except fot 1 point of luck). If Xeno hasn’t turned out or you like fighters than go ahead and use him,you probably won’t be disappointed.
