Part 82: Old Friends

Chapter 62 – Old Friends

Chapter 62 – Old Friends

Music: Forgotten Foes

Music: Echoes

Video: Old Friends

(Yara) Wow…

Put your mind-reading gear on, and mind-read everyone you can. They each give out a skill point.

(Charon) You have a daring heart to wander into the realm of the dead. Realize you are unwelcome, as are all who have not yet shuffled off their mortal coil! Such insolence cannot pass unnoticed and unchallenged. You will reach the soul you desire only if you defeat some of the more vengeful spirits you have sent to the abyss.

They yearn to make you one of them; a resident of this vale of shadows, the Hall of Echoes, so that your memories may be eaten away as well. And your self will dissolve into the great oblivion.
(-3600 XP)
(Talana) Well, aren’t we dramatic.

Music: Forgotten Foes

Forgotten Foes is really neat, and it fits this part really well.

Marius? And Gene?

(Marius) The Great Betrayer has come to the final kingdom. Divine be blessed that a Slayer may have another chance to bring justice.
(-3600 XP)
Having had to kill a friend has been a burden on my mind, Marius. Can we not make peace at last?
Never! I have sworn an oath; the same as you. But I will not commit the low-hearted treason you have. Die now, in the name of the Dragon Slayers!

Everybody!
The gimmick of this arena is that we meet all the old bosses we fought and killed in the main quest again. I really like this concept, because it makes you go over the entire game in your mind when you remember them. They’re all between Level 30 and 32, so they’re just dangerous enough to provide a nice workout for you. In Ego Draconis, they also dropped very high quality loot.

The third Dragon Slayer we killed before the Maxos Temple, Gunther doesn’t show up. I suppose that makes sense, if he didn’t bear a huge resentment for us.

(“Sassan”) There it is! The savage who destroyed this goddess sculpted in flesh!
(-3600 XP)

Goddess? You give a new definition of monotheism, then: only one god and only one worshipper.
Hush! I’ll make a worshipper of you yet! I’ll make you scream your devoutness for me till your vocal cords burst!

(Amdusias) We meet again, pigeon dropping. I shall have one more chance to tear you to pieces!
(-3600 XP)
Maxos!
AAAAAAAHHH!!!

(Laiken) Praise be that this hour has come. I have filled books with fantasies of torturing you: a library of pain. Finally I can put theory to practice.
I’ll enjoy reading through them later, a glass of wine in hand, sitting comfortably by the fire in MY Battle Tower.
Your tower no longer! Here you have come and here you will stay. Damian shall be the next to sit on the throne while I bring anguish to your meat. Come, Razakel. Dinner’s ready.
(Razakel) First we eat, then I’ll bring her soul to Tartarus. And there… there… hmmm… over and over again.

(Lady Kara) Well, well, well, my sweet. Look who we have here!

(Lord John) Why, it is the Dragon Knight, my love: ensnared inside the Hall of Echoes this time.
How kind the brave little hall dweller is, my dear. To so openly present itself to us again.
Such a marvel it is indeed, my precious. Let’s not keep it waiting.
Manners before all, my darling: you are quite correct. I’ll set it alight and you’ll carve it up?
As you wish, my cherished, so it shall be.

(Ba’al) Here we are in the Hall of Echoes, a world fit for ghosts alone, and still you bring me meat to cleave.
(-3600 XP)
If I’m not mistaken, it was I who cleaved yours, not the other way around.
A Demon, too, learns from his mistakes. But you have learned little: one does not give a blood-seeking pitfiend a chance to avenge itself!

The fools have been vanquished once again. They should have known by now not to come between the Dragon and its wrath.
The end is near. Only one obstacle remains. I can only hope that it is enough to kill the Dragon Knight.

Chapter 62 – Old Friends

(Marius) The Great Betrayer has come to the final kingdom. Divine be blessed that a Slayer may have another chance to bring justice.
Even death could not dispel your blindness or stupidity. Let’s try again, shall we?
Shameless deserter! Remember this: if it is not I who kills you, it will be Commander Rhode. She’ll get you somehow, someday, but I’ll try first. Die now, in the name of the Dragon Slayers!

(“Sassan”) There it is! The savage who destroyed this goddess sculpted in flesh!
Of all the foes, of all the adversaries I killed, in all the Hall of Echoes, it is you I have to meet again.
Nothing could stop me! It is you I despise most, you I have longed to slay, hoped to rack and plague and pester. I shall not be denied or disappointed. Come here now and suffer!

(Amdusias) We meet again, pigeon dropping. I shall have one more chance to tear you to pieces!
Wait, weren’t you supposed to be a Dragon? I know I am.
I am a Dragon! I shall be one still! I’ll take it all from you!

(Laiken) Praise be that this hour has come. I have filled books with fantasies of torturing you: a library of pain. Finally I can put theory to practice.
The vanquished one tries to remain sane by endlessly imagining the victory that never was. Pathetic.
What never was may still come to be! Only the past has been written, but the future, the future I’ll carve into your soft meat! Come, Razakel. Dinner’s ready.
(Razakel) First we eat, then I’ll bring her soul to Tartarus. And there… there… hmmm… over and over again.

(Ba’al) Here we are in the Hall of Echoes, a world fit for ghosts alone, and still you bring me meat to cleave.
What can I say? I’m a very courteous person.
So you are. So you are indeed! Though I take it you shall resist again as I try to suck the liver from your gut!
