Part 27

Volatile Penguin posted:

Ahaha, awesome. I'm loving how easily this game can be broken. Gonna have to play it sometime.

I guess it is pretty easy, yeah, it just takes a lot of patience and a bit of luck. Breaking this game is VERY time consuming, I mean, I've already spent about five hours in the ancient cave (7 hours in game time), which is part of why I'm completely breezing through this part of the game.

Passing through Mistra Cave, we come to the town of Redwood.

Casino town you say? Awesome.

I like this town already

for free.

It's like a bad running joke that won't die. . . kind of like a Some Cool Guy thread!

I think this might be referring to negative statuses, since there is a spell called Strongest that I assume is a full heal. Also mirror and you can learn IceValk here. Fuck I forgot to go back and learn firebird. Mistake #1 of this update (not like I use magic that much, although maybe I should to spice things up a bit)

So anyway there's one big main casino in this town, I have no idea what it's called because I've been up since 7:30 this morning, after having an exam and then working for 8 hours, and can barely remember my own name.

Hey Waitress, where's my drink?!

R-Right away sir!

SPLOOSH!

Oh no!

What are you doing! My clothes are soaking wet now!

I'm so sorry sir!

I lost because you're so dumb! How are you going to make it up to me?!

Here she comes to save the daaaaaaaay

because you lost.

What did you say, Ruby? She spilled beer on me! I have a right to be mad!

Okay then, how about this. We play a game, and if I win, you forgive her.

And if I win?

I'll spend an evening with you.

Really? Alright, let's do this!

Okay, I'll flip a coin. Heads or tails?

Uh. . . tails, no heads!

flip flippity flip

Ohhh it's tails, sorry.

You cheater!

SMACK! Like I said, you're a jerk. You're no match for me!

D-Damn it! I'll get you next time! Exits.

T-thanks so much. But what if you had lost?

I wouldn't have. Look at my coin.

Both sides are tails. . .

A true gambler is one who makes the odds in her favor.

I like her!

Yeah, but I don't think she'll join so easily.

So? She's a gambler, I'll fight her at gambling!

Hey this is probably like the luck blade in the other games which misses or something who cares it's crap.

We could use hot people on our team. . . We are severely lacking in the aesthetics department.

I'll show you something I'm NOT weak at. . .

What game are you playing next?

The Monster Track. It's an exciting one that requires both gambling and fighting skills.

Hell yeah.

Hey, you look like a Hero! Looks like I should explain the rules to you. See, the game starts tomorrow. Go into Azoles Cave and find a monster called the Big Mouth. Whoever can catch him the fastest wins!

oh yeah you can search the whole town and the casino to find:

- X-Potion
- Revive
- Antidote
- Life Seed
- X-Magic
- ConfuPowder

Yeah you can stay for free, since you need to to get the monster track started. You can talk to Ruby again and she wishes you good luck.

The next day you can enter Azoles Cave. You might know it as the place I got the Bunny Blade before. I could go through it to that weird mansion, but there's no point now. Also, going down into the cave was blocked until you sign up for the race and then rest.

More random dungeon! Some of the enemies are repeats from Broffo Cave, like Troll, and Goblin Shaman, and a few more.

More annoying spell casting elf jerks.

Evil swords, and evil armor! I tried cooking a Killer Armor but got nothing good

A move for Randolph and Deckard, where you attack 3-8 times.

A move for Seena that causes random status effects to all enemies.

the bottom floor is B10, as per usual.

Those chests contain a Mind Seed. . . a ROCKET RING and a second HI POWER RING, which are both incredibly amazing accessories.

More like Notmalboro am I right guys?

But you're too late, I'm taking the Big Mouth!

Oh my, the bridge has been blown totally inconspicuously not by someone we know.

Great as usual, Tak.

Stop acting so tough. There's explosives rigged to that island. If I press this button you'll fall right into the nest of the Big Mouth.

Oh my, that's quite a setup.

Yeah. I'll do anything to make you mine!

Who said that I'd be yours?! Are you drunk this early in the morning?

Sure I had a drink, it's my victory gin!

Then you must have gone insane from drinking too much!

Ahahahaha!

Oh she's good, what an

Marco, do you mind if I go smack some sense into him?

Please, be my guest,

Don't move! Ruby's life is in my hands! One step this way and she's done for!

What a loser.

Yeah, I'd rather be eaten by Big Mouth than be yours, Tak. Speaking of which. . .

she jumped into Big Mouth's. . . mouth.

but then he spit her back out! Awesome.

W-Why?!

Bad luck, Tak.

I guess we don't need to hesitate now. Alright Aima, shall we?

You've got nowhere to run now!

Welp, Exits.

Marco, the enemy is waiting. It's really mad.

Let's go!

New character? I'll save her introduction for in a minute. I must say though, women are especially good at magic in this game. . .

Maybe it isn't so much like a malboro. . . which by the way is my favorite social satire/pun in any final fantasy game, or really any jrpg.

I wish they gave me more LP, gold is crap, I want LP! STAT MAXING ARGH!

This is a lie, I killed it in two turns. I wish the enemies were stronger, but then again I did spend a really long time to make sure I could break this game properly.

Ohh, looks like you've beaten me this time.

Sorry. You got to Big Mouth first, though.

It's alright, I was just out of luck this time. By the way, why did you enter such a dangerous game?

I wanted you to join us.

Why?

I liked the way you helped that waitress.

That's all?

Yeah, that's all.

Wow, you must be pretty. . . stupid.

I'd like to know why everyone calls me that!

Why do you need more people? You already seem to have plenty.

There's an enemy we must defeat.

He must be pretty strong if you need that many people!

He is insanely strong, in fact, he's a Sinistral!

A Sinistral you say? Interesting.

Yes well we've defeated two already.

I've met a lot of people, but you're really something. Also, it's interesting that the enemy is a Sinistral. I'd love to know how a god plays his cards. I'm Ruby.

I'm Marco, nice to meet you.

INTRODUCTIONS BLAH BLAH SO MANY PEOPLE

By the way, why did the Big Mouth spit you out?

I brought pepper with me. A true gambler is someone who turns the odds in their own favor!

Impressive.

Let's go back to town. You're the winners of the Monster Track, you're in for a lot of prize money!

Name: Ruby
Class: Gambler, Southern Bell
Weapons: It's all in the cards!
Likes: Gambling, corsets, milkshakes
Dislikes: Chauvinists, people who back out of bets, board games
about : Ruby has pretty good stats, high INT and good AGL, and the fact that she has yellow SF means she will only get faster. But her real strength lies in her unique IP skills; whether it's playing cards or betting her own life, her vast array of unique IPs are what makes her great. She's invaluable in a few fights.

Next time, we'll get our reward for winning the Monster Track!

I've never played past this part, I basically gave up out of boredom of the repetitious nature of this game the only time I got this far. However, now with my drive never to abandon an LP, and with the turbo feature of my emulator, I promise I will press on and do everything possible in this game!

EDIT: I added the SF colors of the characters to the character list in the first post, also I put an index of terms in case you ever get confused.
