Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga

Part 46: Still going up.

Update 46:

let's keep going up, there is still a lot more to cover, you know.

There is another interlevel segment. That is not a bad thing.

About time Heat got this rather appropriate Mantra.

Cielo gets the Ice one, not like he needs it, though.

Ghost walls are not exactly bad. They are annoying, but they are easily dealt with. Ghost walls can also be reverse ghost walls, seeming solid, but when reached shown to be nothing but ilussions.
That is also seen in one of the Nocturne Kalpas.

See?

I love Omoikanes.

"Gate of Hell
Phys Drain
High Counter"

Luck and Vit will be left alone for a while.

Cielo sure loves both speed and luck. On one hand, he actually needs those to offset his vulnerabilities (which by now should be null, with the appropriate mantras), high speed would mean that he would avoid the attacks and effects more often, and high luck that he would be affected less.

A Layer Cell behind a huge false wall. Those fetch a pretty sum, you know.

And a Life Terminal. Definitely not needed, but on my first playthrough VERY welcome.

And Serph gets to learn this. That is going to come in handy.
That's pretty much being a powergamer, but hey, it is awesome, you know.

Usable Earth protection. Pretty damn worthless at this point.

And behind the door, another elevator area.

Or not. Save station, the elevator doesn't come until later, it seems.

This apparently straightforward corridor is devious. DEVIOUS INDEED, for it has GHOST WALLS! Oh yes. Walls that appear to be invisible from afar, yet when one gets near, they become instantly corporeal!
Of course, that is only aminor annoyance, and the paths are really easy. Definitely less annoying than water pump mazes or TELEPORTS.

This one can still come in handy. Full heal in both HP and MP for a single member.

And passing that simple thing, one reaches the outside.

Oh.

Flying things.

And a save station. They sure spread them around. That's nice of them.

Oh my. That blue ting looks quite interactive. Let's use it!
I am getting bored of the current palette, you know, muted, gray, boring.
Still better than the bleh blues of the waterways, though.

Activating the switch starts that column of lights. I wonder what happens hen it is stepped upon?

It goes up! It is MAGIC!

yOU CAN COME close to this thing. But you can't touch it. It will never land on the platforms.

You can still follow it around, though. It is a damn shame that the camera is more limited than in Nocturne.

Another one.

Getting closer, it seems.

Huh. The next segment appears to lack the structure that excretes the light pillars. That must mean that it is the end.
Well, let's go there.

They appear to be quite serious about not wanting Serph and company there.

And so the fight starts.
These may kind of count as a boss, but they do not warrant a video. They are definitely easy.

Rather interesting Wikilink

He can't he devoured.

But death comes to it, just like almost everything else.

BUT he was not alone.

Garuda, eh?
Shit's got serious.

Another rather interesting wikilink.

Heat proves to be every bit as good as he needs to be. Strangely, his own HP is lower than one would expect. But that's not a problem, not with Salvation and the Revival Orb.

And especially not since Garuda does not take long to follow its nephew. Not many things could stop Serph and company at this point. They have defeated the Wicked King, they are the Victors of the Junkyard.
And their resolve to go and retrieve Sera is not to be scoffed at.

Aaaand this is the fastest devaluation from boss to enemy.
The very first random encounter after beating them, is this.

Really.

kind of lame XP, though.

"Phys Drain
High Counter"

And another Big one appeared. That is nifty.

Goddamn Monotheist.

He gets this, though. Two members will have Salvation, which is damn useful.
Still needs Auto-Soma, like Serph and Argilla, though.

Elevator Action! Returns!

Quite a ride. From four thousand feet to TWELVE THOUSAND FEET above the surface. That is quite an ascent.

Oh fuck me sideways. Samael is a regular encounter.

I hate them, you know.

About time.

Oh sure, a huge ass wall.

There must be a way out, it can't be the only path. Let's go to the East.

...
Oh.

Oh fuck me.
May the gods damn you to teleporty hell, Sera. THAT'S MEAN.

Gale needs to invest more on Luck.

Next: TELEPORTS AND GHOST WALLS HOORAY HAPPY TIME.
