Part 36: Tactical BasePart 23: Tactical Base
I wanted to do this, but there's a weird glitch with Lemon that only exists in emulators.
Equipping Lemon with any weapon other than the Dark Sword causes Lemon to bug, and he won't equip it. And equipping the Dark Sword isn't worth it, because cursed items are useless. There's a rom hack that fixes this bug, but I was too lazy and drunk to find it.
And if we walk south, we just get a filler fight. Apparently Odd Eye is the only remaining greater devil, so all the other guys are now scrambling to fill in the vacancies. Too bad none of them have unique sprites.
Not much new to see here, In fact, cerberi and minotaurs return and are of minimal threat by now. This fight is fairly easy, and on a small map too. I like it.
One of the few fights that kicks you into the action right away. Those units start right next to you, though the cyclops is the only legitimate threat. Minotaurs don't hit too hard anymore and white dragons are made out of paper mache.
Just wanted to make note that Zynk was boosted and standing in 30% terrain during this hit. Everything about this hack just screams unreasonable, yet it doesn't feel all that unfair in the big picture.
Oh right, that's why.
The white dragon dodge animation looks silly.
On a related note, the master monk dodge animation looks silly too.
Do you know how sad it is that Blast 4 is a more reliable source of damage for Skreech than his normal attack is?
New enemy doesn't fuck around.
Since this was a filler battle, there's really not much to say about this fight. It's standard protocol of controlling heavy terrain, not exposing squishies, and making good use of Boost and Slow. However, Frayja did finally pick up Aura 3, making him my most valuable character.

Since there's no real end point for this short update, I'll give you all a tour of tactical base:
Located in the side of the castle in New Granseal, this is the substitute for the HQ you found in every town in Shining Force 1. However, you only find this in New Granseal, and talking to Astral in tactical base doesn't actually do anything.
This little room is where your fighting party marches in place and says one of their tactical base quotes. I didn't actually put them anywhere in this LP, but if you're curious as to what they are, you can find them on Moogie's guide
Otherwise, everyone who's not in the fighting party has an alternate quote and hangs out in the other rooms. The alternate quotes are generally more entertaining, which is why I included them. Also, everyone hangs out in the same spot when they're benched. I like to think that this is a big fuck-off game of poker.
The lovebirds hang out by themselves. Slade doesn't count because he's so sneaky that nobody can see him. Zynk doesn't count because he's a robot and they don't have souls.
Magical girls plus Astral. Apparently he's good at magic, so he probably has some things to teach them.
I imagine this is a sparring room. Makes sense for Kiwi to be here, since he says he's always training. Jaha hangs out here because he's embarrassed about how short he is. Frayja is here because...?
Higins, Lemon, and Claude hang out together because none of them are actually alive. Rohde is there because nobody else will put up with how loud his tricked out golf cart is.
NEXT TIME: More lasers!
