Part 20: Nereid

Last time on Tales of Eternia

Hyades attacked the Craymel Cannon. We finally finished him off for good.

The Inferians and Celestians joined forces against the threat of Nereid. We are going to make a Fringe Cannon, combining the power of both worlds into a focused blast.

We discovered Seyfert's seal in Regulus Knoll. This is where Nereid was trapped.

The seal is shattered, and there's Ribavius Ore all over the place. This will allow us to complete the cannon!

Part 1 (Preparation): [YOUTUBE] (~17 minutes)
Part 2 (Shizel's Palace): [YOUTUBE] (~34 minutes)

With the Fringe Cannon ready to go, Nereid won't be able to hide in the Dark Matter any longer. Can the Divine Aurora of Seyfert defeat the Dark Aurora of Nereid? ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT FUCK YEAH!!

Boss Time!

Shizel is no longer a super-difficult boss, especially if you keep her tricks in mind. She is invulnerable while casting spells, and her lightning blasts can inflict Freeze, so keep some Freeze Charms handy (or separate Celsius and Efreet for +Freeze Guard). When she uses the Eternal Finality, hold the Aurora Arte buttons to nullify it.

After beating Shizel's first form, Nereid reveals itself.

Nereid has two components: the humanoid body, and the dark ghost. The ghost cannot be targeted or damaged, making it impossible to interfere with its attacks.

Nereid loses her casting invulnerability, but gains a huge array of new spells. In addition to all the Fireballs, Lightnings and Wind Blades she'll be throwing out constantly, you can also expect to see more powerful spells like Explode, Absolute, Dark Force, Bloody Howling, Ray and Holy Lance. She will also toss out Fear Flare whenever. As you get her health down, she uses a spell called Nihilistic Night, which blasts rocks all over an area. You might also see the Eternal Finality again - just use the Aurora Arte to counter it like always.

Unlike other bosses, it seems that Nereid gets more powerful when you're fighting her at a higher level. It's still worth leveling up in order to fight, just understand there's a point of diminishing returns where you're just making things more difficult. It's almost impossible to hit that point without cheating for it, though.

On hardcore difficulty, you can expect to see her add Shooting Stars and Eternity Swarm to her list of moves. These are super-dangerous full-screen attacks that do a whole lot of damage to your group, so watch out! It might be worth using an All-Divide in this fight - even though it doubles how long you have to bang away at her, it makes her attacks much more survivable. Once you bring her health down to zero, she will counter with her ultimate attack --Darkness of the Outer Limits--, so when that happens make sure to hold the Aurora Arte buttons and wrap this one up for good!
