The Summoner is the incredibly good shit. Among casters, this is the job you want to use. Casting-wise, Summoners seriously have no weakness. These guys have a huge MP pool, though it does take a bit of time to mature for levels 6-8 (which can be kept for bosses, anyway) plus their access to High Summon attacks means that they're slinging the most powerful attack spells in the whole game (and can hit elemental weaknesses almost across the board, they only lack a wind spell). As far as magic goes, there's really nothing to dislike about the Summoner. Hell, they even have a unique advantage in that their spells multi-target and don't get penalised for it.

Stat-wise, they have the standard low Vitality that plagues mages, but it's the same growth as a Devout or Magus, so it doesn't really stand out. Their balanced magic stats do mean that neither caps out, but with equipment bonuses, that's not a problem and the balance lends itself to a solid survivability against magic while still keeping up damage power. Really, the only weakness these guys have is that they come late in the game and it is hard to build up job levels unless you grind. In the end, this is the one offensive caster in the game that I would recommend unconditionally.
