Corpse Party: Book of Shadows is a sequel to the PSP version of Corpse Party. It expects you to be familiar with the first game, and it spoils all of its major plot points as well. Before reading this thread, I recommend either playing Corpse Party, or reading my LP of it.
As you read above, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows is a sequel to Corpse Party. It's not a sequel in the traditional sense, however. Book of Shadows is a collection of side-stories to the original Corpse Party. It's divided into seven chapters, which may be alternate tellings of events from the original Corpse Party, extra detail on events that happened off-screen, or something entirely different.
Unlike the previous entry in the series, which was a port of a remake of an RPG Maker game, Book of Shadows was built from the ground-up for the PSP. The gameplay is completely revamped, and is now in a point and click format, rather than the top-down style of its predecessor. Just like the first game, binaural audio is a big part of the atmosphere, so always wear headphones when watching videos from this thread!
This is a hybrid LP. The game will mostly be shown in a screenshot format, with supplemental videos for when the audio is important. Be sure to wear headphones when watching videos, to experience the binaural audio. Video content will be transcribed for those of you who cannot watch them.
This is a 100% run. I'll be getting every Wrong End and collecting every nametag. I'll also be recording the "Soulful Testimonies," which are brief interviews with the game's stellar voice cast.
Do not post spoilers in this thread, not even in tags. Also avoid hinting at future events, like "The next update is going to be super violent and totally gross!"
This rule does not extend to the first Corpse Party. Book of Shadows expects you to be familiar with the first game, so feel free to talk all about everything that happened in it, no spoiler tags necessary.
Before we begin, I would like to give a very special thanks to KC and Ryusui of the romhacking.net message boards. Ryusui was able to decompress the game's image files for me, and KC taught me how to retrieve the memory data Ryusui needed to get it done. I would also like to thank Something Awful member Top Gym Pumper for laying the groundwork for this by extracting the compressed files from the ISO for me. Without their help, the mugshots in this LP would be slightly less pleasant to look at.
