Original Thread: Because the ESRB doesn't give a crispy shit, let's play Soul Nomad!

Introduction

Hello everyone, this is Feinne welcoming you to the third in my Nippon Ichi Software SRPG LP series, Soul Nomad and the World Eaters! Soul Nomad is the last of their PS2 series, as Disgaea 3 is/will be on the PS3. Soul Nomad is also my personal favorite, because in my opinion it brings together all of the good elements from their previous games. It also has the absolute most painful thing I've ever experienced in a video game in it.

FAQ:

I've heard Soul Nomad is a little different than their previous games.

It sure is. Soul Nomad takes place on a more tactical level, in that you move around squads of characters instead of individual characters. As far as actual gameplay goes, I'll be explaining it as we go along. The gameplay itself isn't very complicated, but the number of options open to you stretches into infinity.

What the hell does the title mean?

Okay. Soul Nomad was rated T by the ESRB. This clearly indicates that the ESRB never actually played the game, because among other things Soul Nomad contains near constant swearing from the main character, rape, murder, slavery, a dash of genocide, and all sorts of other happy fun times. And most of that's in the Normal Path. The Demon Path is much, much worse.

Oh, how bad can it be?

There simply aren't words. You will just have to see it with yourself after we finish the Normal Path and unlock it. All I'll say is that it's a large part of why the game should be rated M, and is one of the most painful things I've ever experienced in a game. Not because it's overly hard. Not because there's terrible voice acting. Not because the story is poorly written. If anything, the story is way, way too well written. It's pure concentrated unpleasantness on a grand scale.

You let us sign on to join you in Disgaea.

And you still can. If you want to specify a desired class I can attempt to accommodate you, but considering the mechanism of unlocking classes in Soul Nomad this could be difficult, so I'd instead suggest you specify 'melee', 'ranged', 'magic', or 'support'.

The gameplay in these SRPG LPs is boring! You're boring! I hate you!

You're in luck! I'll be imposing amusing conditions upon myself! Perhaps I'll even let people make conditions for levels at some point in the game, but trust me when I say that I'm going to be making the game much harder on myself by neglecting to use certain somewhat unfair things.

The music in this game is awesome...

And I won't be putting the soundtrack up, because it's way too easy to buy. Sorry. If you're really interested, try here, you should be able to order it no sweat. I might put a few select tracks up, though, because they're too damn awesome for words.

I want to post spoilers!
Don't.

I have a question that wasn't on this FAQ!

Then ask it in the thread.

With that out of the way, let's get started with Soul Nomad and the World Eaters!
